The most horrible place I've ever stayed at, and I'm really very
very used to staying at budget hotels/hostels -- because of the
roaches. We were first given Room 406 -- nightmare room -- there were
tiny roaches everywhere. The bed, inside the pillowcase, the walls, the
floor... We didn't notice at first because they didn't emerge
until we had been there for probably 15 minutes. We killed the first few
but were overwhelmed at the number -- more than twenty small roaches
appeared. We called the front desk who said he'd send up
housekeeping to "fix it." Zero apologies. The housekeeping
arrived, took a look, transferred us to a new room, 506. Still no
apologies. I inspected it thoroughly while my family brought up our bags
-- opened up the pillowcases and found a tiny roach inside one of them.
I called to ask for a new pillow, was given one, but again zero
apologies -- the staff looked seriously annoyed whenever we complained,
even though in my opinion roaches are a perfectly reasonable thing to
get angry about. We didn't pay $175 a night to be attacked by little
beasts. Over the course of our four night stay in the "new"
room, I found 4 more roaches -- just 4, so I tried to just forget and
forgive... But seriously. Really terrible service and horrible
cleanliness... A pity because the hotel would have been fine otherwise.
But it needs to be shut down and fumigated thoroughly before they book
any more guests there. Avoid at all costs.
WiFi was decent, location was fairly ok (20 min to times square
depending on the wait for the train), breakfast was acceptable,
toiletries and towels provided and changed daily. Safe neighborhood,
felt comfortable walking home alone at 3am. Lots of restaurants nearby!
