Hotel beach is very small and rocky, but you don't come to Big Island for beaches....
Really nice and pretty hotel, right by the ocean, close to bars and restaurants.

Noisy air con motor from the outside. We paid for an upgrade and it wasn't worth it! Paid wi-fi. Hotel has alot of potential and probably was good back in the day. Decent location and close to bars and food outlets. The breakfast buffet was average for what you paid. From what we could see there were better and newer hotels on the island.
The lagoon pool

It is a super old hotel and the room was dirty. I asked for a king size bed and we got double. The room was next to the central air conditioning unit and the noise was very annoying. The worst part was "after we came back from the dinner, the room smelled like a toilet." It wasn't worth the money.

The bed was very uncomfortable. The laundry room was quite far from our room. The daily luaus were so noisy. We could not block out the noise.
The views were beautiful. Seeing dolphins daily was a treat. The saltwater lagoon made experiencing the sea safe and realistic.

no wifi, breakfast buffet was very a bit expensive for what you get (not the ripest freshest fruit one anticipates having in Hawai'i). Also, our room was "partial ocean view king" but mostly overlooked the noisy fans of the back of the hotel - daily 7am smell of bacon wasn't ideal either.
perfect location, great service from the staff (both front desk and the concierge), great little spot to sit near the bar to just enjoy the crashing waves.

Having to pay for Wifi is ridiculous in this day and age.
Love the location of this hotel, ocean front rooms have spectacular views. It's great to sit on the balcony with a glass of wine and gaze out to sea.

The 1st room they put us in was not the one pictured that I selected when I first made the reservation the only view we would have had was hanging over the rail to see the ocean to the far right. Not to mention the furniture was very old and not like what was pictured. I Called down and told them this was not the room I chose? They moved us to another room with the ocean front view but the furniture was sit old and one of the beds was broken at the head of it and pointed down. My daughter dealt with it because we got our ocean veiw.
Loved the view from our room and even the veiw of 3 wedding receptionns.

The pool was out of order

They charged for parking and wifi?? - the only accommodation that did in our 12 day trip around Hawaii. Room was clean but shoddy and unrenovated, like the rest of the hotel. Unidentified intermittent plumbing noises woke us up several times. No glasses or crockery - just plastic / paper cups. A budget place that we were charged top dollar for.

Great location. Right on the ocean. Great Bar. Historic spot.

The rooms are out dated; bathroom facets worn out and difficult to use/furniture is 30 years old; Wifi speed is from the 80's and you pay for it; bed sheets not fitted and bunch up; over charged on my credit card by $60 from receipt.

The location was perfect

Hotel is dated and in need of an update/ remodel. However it is very clean and comfortable.
This hotel is in an excellent location and we were able to walk everywhere during our stay. They upgraded us to an ocean front room which is the only way to go.

Badly needs some updating and a good scrubbing.
April 16, 2015
large room - minimal furnishings - less value for money than vacation resorts inland.
close to downtown
April 14, 2015
Ok but Noisy area of town and in resort.
They did move us to new room upon request which we appreciated.
April 14, 2015
Our ocean view room (albeit a budget one) was located in the Bay Tower directly above the air conditioning fo the main building ..at least I think that's what the noise was...worst 3 nights sleep in our 3 week trip.
Location was excellent. Security staff were excellent in providing first aid to our son when he cut his foot in the lagoon. Very reassuring manner.
