Only one street away from a major subway stop (96 street). The market shop next door has everything you need for food and drink. Good storage space. Staff were friendly and helpful. Good value.
There was an annoying pipe in the corner of our room (23g) which when heating up was very noisy.
Great price and great location close to trains
I had to share a bathroom, but for the price it didn't bother me at all!
The price was great--much cheaper than even the cheapest hotel would have been. The location was very convenient--one block form a subway, many little restaurants to eat at, a marketplace to get fresh groceries and some toiletries, and other convenience stores and drug stores nearby. The room (double shared) was plenty big enough for 2 people and had 2 closets, which was nice.
So really, the bathrooms are the worst part--but really, what can you expect from a common bathroom at a hostel? I used several bathrooms on several different floors. Some were cleaner than others, some looked newer, some had better shower heads. Some were pretty decent, and some were a little more iffy. However, I saw no mold or bugs, so I was fine.
The location was fantastic. Very close to 96th street subway stop, me and my friends used this frequently.
Was very close to one of the non-private bathrooms and sound from people using it travelled into my room.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, the location (3 mins to subway), rooms were kept clean and linen/ towels changed
Noisy neighbours (we didn't tell staff so perhaps not applicable here), very small room (big enough only for a bed and two cases stood up), the bathroom wasn't very clean
The reviews of many made us expect the worst but it was a decent place. The rooms and bathrooms on floor 5 were nice, yes there only 2 bathrooms per floor but that's a hostel (if you want more stay in a hotel). The staff were nice and location is on the express line to lower manhattan.
Some bugs in the bathroom but seen worse before
The staff was friendly and the hotel itself was clean, comfortable, and a lovely place to head back to at night.
The beds were a slight challenge with the sheets staying in at night, but that didn't hinder anything!
The showers were some times cold and wouldn't warm up
The location was absolutely perfect, right next to main subway terminal. Beds were comfy. Warm place to sleep. Small, but great value for what you pay.
Just small from what you normally think of for a hotel. No microwave or fridge which would've been nice. Also having shared bathrooms with more than one stall would've been helpful since the whole floor shared 2 bathrooms.
Location is so good, just one block away from station where express stops, and it took less than 15 min from Times Square. Stuff is nice and room was big enough, clean, and of course it's cheap
Heater made so much noise all the time, also we had the room next to bathroom, so we were bothered by flushing sounds all night:(
The location was perfect
single common bathroom/toilet for each floor. Seriously . And no hot water from shower !
The location unhopefully that's it... We have ask for changing bedroom, one bigger just to be able to put off the luggages...
2 very small bathroom for sharing a floor of 10 rooms... One of the bathroom didn't have hot water... The pipes on bedroom were really noisy. There were tasks on the bed by this way we can see that in one week they didn't change sheets. When you see the pictures of the hotel website everything look beautiful but they select what they show and at the end it not look as you expected... Housekeeping were very noisy too with talkie walkie all time without take care for customers... I had work in hotel as housekeeper, I know it's hard to satisfy customers but really it was not great at all sorry for them...
If you are a budget traveller and don't care so much about the hotel and its facilities, then this if for you. Clean rooms. Relatively quiet. Good location, shops and cafes and an awesome diner just down the road. You share the bathroom, which was fine, never really too busy and it was quite clean. You can leave your luggage for the day, costs 2 dollars per large bag (free for small hand luggage) on the day you leave.
The smallest room with a double bed that you can imagine (so small you have to unpack your luggage into the 2 drawers (no wardrobe to hang stuff up in) so that you can then stash your luggage on one side of the bed so that you have any room to move about in the room, leaving one side of the bed free. Poor wifi connection (sometimes no connection at all). There is a TV, but it only has TV-shopping channels, or channels in Spanish. We had a water pipe going through one side of the room, and as it was really cold outside the pipe was boiling, making the room REALLY warm. The pipe is also right next to the headboard of the bed, making one side of the bed really warm. Also, with the other side of the bed experiencing a crazy draft from the window, either side of the bed was bad (for either of the reasons). The pipe also made weird noises throughout the night, banging, ticking, popping, so if you are a light sleeper, this might not be for you. Apart from the last morning when a car a alarm kept going off 3 times in a row, the hotel is off on a smaller side street so fairly quiet. Would have been good with a least a sink in the bedroom. The hotel does not look too much like the pictures online, or at least our room, floor hallway and bathroom didn't. Really hard and big pillows. We never complained for any of these issues, as we really just wanted a bed to sleep in for the night, with too much to do during the day to ever come back to the hotel for any reason, so if you plan to do the same, then this place is fine, as long as you don't have high expectations.
the locations is really good, nice neighborhood and near The subway station
very small The room in The Picture it does not look Like that
The rooms were clean and quiet, the staff friendly.
location is good price is a good deal
poor wifi connected mouse in the room ( didn't see it but snack has been eaten even in the uncover luggage) very noisy heater system
it was warm Shared bathrooms are kind of clean Metro is half a block away
bed bugs!!!!!! Hotel manager is completely useless The pipes make a lot of noice making it impossible to sleep The wifi is very poor Hotel stuff moved our things from our room to another room without letting us know They didnt provide any solution
This was a good option we be at New York 2 nights and this hotel was good for this time
They do not have breakfast sevice
Cleanness, helpful staff,
We picked this hotel because it was close to my friend's apartment. It was easy to walk to the subway station, Central Park and restaurants. Beds were comfortable and bathroom was recently remodeled. Our room overlooked a central courtyard, instead of the street, so it was really quiet. Staff was very friendly.
I had read other reviews that mentioned roaches, but thought it would be okay in the winter. I saw two very small bugs in the bathroom on two different days -- not sure if they were roaches or not. The pillows were so thick that they gave us all neck aches. Furniture was a bit shabby, too. They charged us $2 per suitcase to store them after check-out time.
Price was good super fast check in (3 minutes) Subway is block away Shopping around (food, breakfast,...) general is good location
private bathroom was little cold
The shared bathrooms, they bed was entirely to hard, there was no heat in the room and there were roaches crawling around
The location was great, the room was comfortable. It wasn't large or fancy, but it was clean with friendly service and actually kind of cute with exposed brick and a fireplace converted into a bookshelf.
Main complaint was minor — in a room for two, why was there only one glass? Also the step up to the computer/microwave room should have been marked, I tripped on it and dropped my laptop.
the WI FI , Location , Cleanness
Comfortable bed, location and free wifi (although it gets a little slow in the evening), also Frank from reception was very helpful and friendly.
If you have an option, choose the room with private bathroom. Employees try to keep hotel as clean as possible, however shared bathroom are cleaned once a day and the other guests can simply make the bathroom not bearable (specially in the evening or before cleaning in the morning). So if the other guests would know hot to clean after themselves everything would be OK, but in our case it was not.
