The cons: the location; there are drug users, dealers and people pan handling on the whole block and the next few blocks, the day I left I saw a homeless man was smoking an older woman out and then shooting up on his forearm. When I first entered the room there was a musky smell in the room, it wasn't extremely bad, but it was bothering me enough to buy an air freshener . The room's smell was like there had been a leak in the room at one point and that was obvious in the bowing ceiling in the corner (the Renuzit took take of the problem for only $1 and some change at CVS). No parking was a bit of a problem because we couldn't find parking at first, but there's a parking garage on the next block on Eddy St. Going towards Powell. Bus line 19 stops directly in front of the hotel so when we came back from Lombard St at night we were overjoyed that we wouldn't deal with any of the dealers or their customers on our way back. The iron did not work. The grout between the shower tiles had mold all over it! The peep hole on the door had direct vision to the bed. There were a few other small negatives like screw holes on the walls in the bathroom, but it wasn't too bad.
If this hotel were in a different area I would have stayed there in the future, but it's not so I wouldn't. For the rate it usually goes for I do consider this hotel overpriced. If you don't mind the people on the street offering you drugs, injecting themselves in plain site, asking you for money or yelling at each other then you might want to check it out. Had I known all of that was outside of the hotel I would have booked a hotel in a different area. Hotels by fisherman's wharf were about the same price and I didn't feel like my safety was in jeopardy in that area.
The positives: the room was clean, bathroom was clean (for the most part), toiletries and ear plugs were provided, the bed was comfortable, the room had a fridge, microwave, a TV (with basic local channels), there was an alarm clock, but I didn't plug it in so I don't know if it worked, Wi-Fi, breakfast was included (7am-9am, two cold cereals, waffles, Danishes, delicious large apples and bananas, toast, bagels, orange juice, apple juice, two types of coffee, two types of tea, water and a soda vending machine, staff was friendly, I found overnight parking on the next block for $15, brouchers and maps in the lobby, main entrance to the hotel was locked after a certain time (trust me you'll appreciate this after you read the cons), 24 hr receptionist, elevator, locks on the room door and finally, but not least the police station is down the street.
