The porches are wonderful but there were a groups in a couple rooms facing the river that were singing songs and being rowdy into the night. I imagine that didn't bode well for romance in neighboring rooms. Something to consider if you are going for a romantic weekend.
The bathtub under the faucet really needed chalking; grit and cracks were showing. Not a huge deal but since that's what you look at when bathing, it is in the line of sight.
It is a lovely, old hotel that has been renovated and decorated with colonial Maryland motif. The screened porches for many of the units like the one we had is lovely and gives a sense of having your own little house. Our room was large and very comfortable. The room, porch, bathroom was clean as were the common areas.
The welcoming crew was very lovely and let us check in early (at 2 p.m.) so we could spend more time enjoying the grounds. The location in Oxford and the grounds are peaceful and really nice. Not huge but great view of the river and bay and with a little beach. Not super private but doable.
It's also nice when a hotel doesn't nickel and dime you for everything and the Sandaway has a little cottage filled with snacks, goodies, and drinks as well as a library where you can get all the bottled water you need.
The option for a delivered breakfast basket or 15% off across the street for a hot breakfast is fair although I would have opted for a hot breakfast at the hotel.
I like the little touches, like the binoculars in your room, the flashlight on your key for when you wander Oxford at night and need to find your way home, the free wifi, the choice of feather or foam pillows, etc.
