Had charm but is showing it's age
Free wifi , breakfast and newspapers which u do not get even in 5 or 6 star hotels, safe box , natural ingredients in toiletries . Helpfulness of staff . Excellent location for shopping , food and near the pier
Rooms were small, cleaning detergent a bit strong when u initially enter the room . Could do with a little makeover to give the room a brighter atmosphere

I had a great experience for my 1 night stay. I had been staying in Hollywood and decided to spend my last night in Santa Monica. I had to check out at 11am and head straight to Hotel Carmel Santa Monica. They kindly checked me in early so that was really helpful. The hotel location was FANTASTIC! Everything I needed was around me and is just a short walk to the pier. I was on the third floor and had no issues with noise. I had a very peaceful sleep. I had a 12pm check out and my flight was not until 11pm that evening. They held my bags whilst I enjoyed venice beach and a bit of light shopping. I headed back to the hotel to collect my bags and book an uber for the airport. I was having difficulties booking an uber on my app as it would not recognize my US number. One of the staff kindly booked one for me on his app as his "good deed for the day"! What a life saver! I could not rate this hotel high enough and thank you again to the guy that helped me get to the airport and to all the staff that contributed to my stay. :)
Location, even though a block in from the beach, not "on the beach" as mentioned.
Upon arrival, even though I booked two rooms, both having two adults and children, they said my reservation was for one queen bed in each room and charged me additional monies, per night, per room to get two queen beds. Never heard of a hotel having one queen bed, it is usually two queens or 1 king. Rooms were very dingy, no updates in years. Staff at desk, not friendly or very helpful.
The man that brought our luggage in was outstanding
Internet was rubbish , had to keep asking for a new code . Whoever it was that checked us in was rude and so we're most staff on reception
The location, the room size, the comfort of beds
I wished the ac had a thermostat
Price, location, helpful staff.
Smell in room, lining under the shower was loose, felt as though the floor was going to cave in.
no breakfast even thou the website indicated that there was.
The hotel has thin walls, take ear plugs!
A great location for staying in Santa Monica and close to beach, transport, great selection of restaurants and excellent shopping. The hotel is in serious need of a revamp but has probably had a glorious past. Staff were friendly and helpful. The lobby area was rather nice. It was quite fun despite the old rooms.
Cost of the room and the extra costs like taxes we did not know about like Santa Monica tax, Which guests with a budget was disheartening.
Great location. Had trouble with our a/c and they upgraded our room, which was bigger and very comfortable. Provided continental breakfast and USA Today.
No hair dryer in room. Had to get one from front desk.
Advertised breakfast included, when it was actually just coffee and sweet muffins.
Location was great, not that noisy, would recommend for short stays in LA.
Room door chain lock was broken, had to prop chair against door, terrible wifi in room, was like a time warp to the 70's regarding the furnishings, has potential to be such a modern hotel in amazing location!
great location for 3rd street promenade and the beach.
room smelt really badly of damp/mould, floor was new carpet fitted on top of old carpet, beds were uncomfortable (again new mattress placed on top of old one), bedding itchy. whole hotel could do with a facelift. Breakfast included was a low stocked plate of muffins.
This is a great hotel if you are pretty much just planning on using it as a place to sleep while you enjoy Santa Monica! The rooms are quaint and small, not very luxurious but comfortable an the best part is it's only about a 10 minute walk to the pier! It was such a great deal for the location and I'm so glad I didn't shell out $400 for one night in a fancy hotel just to sleep there and leave the nex day!
The valet took forever when we went to leave, they may be slightly understaffed
Service was slow, interior was dated and paid $9.99 for wifi which didn't work
Hotel was as expected for the price. Location was excellent.
It would have been better had there been a better room for breakfast & coffee rather than in small reception area. Also a bar for drinks in the evening would be nice.
The location ,Lobby room was clean and quite
We enjoyed location of Hotel.
There was no coffee/tea making facilities and even though breakfast was included it was pastries. We would prefer to not have breakfast included unless it had healthy options. The room was quite warm and air conditioning didn't work very well. Also we never had our room serviced as when we returned to the Hotel about 4, they were only just doing our floor and we wanted to get ready to go out for dinner.
conveniently located to activities
no notice of construction being done during stay. had to climb over mess in the walk ways to room. Tub did not drain, had to stand in own filth while bathing. over bed fan and light kept coming on and off during all hours of the day and night, possibly electrical wiring issue-fire danger. left us a little concerned.
Clean room, service.
Noisy on the street below-I had asked for a quiet room.
Friendly and helpful front desk staff. The best location in Santa Monica, so close to the pier, Third Street Promenade, restaurants (especially Buddha's Belly right next door).
The bathroom was tiny. The air conditioner worked only intermittently, and there was a heat wave. Really, the hotel needs to be refurbished.
Staff where all great and when we arrived early morning we where given an up grade to a suite which was really big and spacious
