Nice style, friendly staff, free internet, great location, and very good bed. No airconditioning and difficult to open window. Very basic breakfast. Rather expensive.

There is nothing in the above which describes the hotel or what it has to offer, the fact is the Hotel has franchised out the Restaurant, to a company interested only in a young clientele which uses what was the hotel and its mezzanine deck as it's premises. This deck is surrounded by the walls of the Hotel and another building, it is also very popular with the younger local element of SF society, and not guests of the hotel. The result was that every evening when we retired for the night it was impossible to sleep due to the astounding level of noise from the mezzanine deck, which grew in volume as the Alcohol content of the local patrons and their speach grew ever louder. The result was that over the first 3 days we were in residence, sleep was impossible prior to the closure of the deck between 0130-0200hrs daily. When I went down to the reception to complain about the noise I noticed a typed letter on the reception desk which alluded to the excessive noise and, offered the hotel guests free earplugs to combat the noise. I have never, in my travels come across such a message which basically said" You as Guests are of no consequence, despite the fact you are our bread and butter, we would rather take money from you and ignore your requirements, than provide a reasonable level of guest comfort and well being during your stay.

The staff were all excellent. We only had breakfast which was good. The cheese and wine every evening is a great touch. The room was small but very clean and comfortable. I struggled to get the shower water at the correct temperature but it wasn't a big deal.

Friendly staff, solving your problems, clean, nice try to recreate 30- 50s style, classic name - Hotel California )). First of all - despite of Booking.com confirmation e-mail, the reservation info was not sent to hotel by Booking.com and the room was not reserved when I arrived. The lady on lobby kindly helped to solve this problem and booked another hotel for two days in the middle of my business trip. It cost me a lot of headache and I had to move back and forth between hotels. Minor things: no meat or smth in the hotel's breakfast, just bread and eggs; single elevator; very old style like many hotels in sf - with all that wet carpets smell, not European modern style.

The staff is amazing. They didn't receive my booking confirmation from booking.com but even in a busy week they find a way to accommodate me and this was great. The location is also near everything The noise, but if you choose stay at Union Square you will not have other option. I have a light sleep and I could sleep well.

Room was beautiful. Walking distance to most every where. Staff was very friendly and helpful with directions. I had read about the noise but you are in a big city so its to be expected. I didn't think it was bad at all though. Area was a little seedy

The bedding and room was clean. I felt very comfortable in the bed. Expensive parking and it is located in a really bad part of town for this price they should provide free parking. Slow elevator steep stairs and the house keeper just tried to enter my room without knocking first.

It was quaint and familiar to my experience while an integral part of the San Francisco scene. The staff had to make change for me from their own pockets, for which I was grateful but that service could have been more readily available for guests. Also I was told that I would need to go to a nearby market for vending machine-type items which would have been more convenient on site.

The location of the hotel is extremely good. It located a few blocks away from the Union Square and China town. There're many stores, groceries and shopping centers along the streets. The hotel is very stylish hotel. And the staff in the hotel is very friendly. There's happy-hour from 5:30pm - 7:00pm with free cheese and wine. Expensive price and parking.
