The location of the hotel and staff
location near Union Square
no shuttle to airport. for first time visitors getting around SF is difficult.
Beautiful lobby, good staff, daily wine hour, location of hotel.
Tiny bathroom, street noise due to poor insulation from old windows, overnight parking fees were very high.
Location. Like the idea of a business Centre, but it could have been better serviced
Room small and cluttered. We had to ask for a frig and electric hug. No coffee making facility
Very comfortable King Bed, love the décor, having a nightclub on sight was pretty fun.
Bathroom was a little too small but I never spent anytime in my room so it did not matter much
Location !concierge ,Michael was brilliant All the staff were helpful
Bathroom very small nowhere to put anything "
The location is great. In the heart of Union Square, only a few minute walk to public transportation, and a lot of shops nearby for food and clothing.
For the money we spent on a basic room for this hotel, I expected just a little more. Our bathroom door didn't close properly (or at all). The housekeepers left cleaning supplies in our room. The bathroom wasn't as clean as I would've hoped. I don't think I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to stay in Union Square. Their staff was alright. They could've been better. And the fact that there isn't free WiFi...
Eddie on the door - excellent Burger recommendation. Big squidgy beds
All the dust around the edges.
The location of this hotel is excellent and the staff were helpful, polite and could not have been more accommodating. The lobby is beautiful and we highly recommend the italian restaurant that is attached. The rooms are well appointed and the bed and accommodations were comfortable.
There are things, like the annoying bathroom dispensers for shampoo, soap and conditioner that the staff can not help; but, there wasn't one day of our 6 day stay that something in the room wasn't missing. The first night we didn't have towels; then conditioner; the staff seemed never to know that used glasses needed to be replaced. It became a joke between us as to what would be forgotten. After calling down, the missing item was brought up promptly. But every day?
The location was central to every thing we wanted to see and all forms of public transportation. The hotel staff was kind & attentive. The have A LOT of complimentary amenities. The rooms were clean and roomy. The beds were unbelievably comfortable and they have blackout curtains.
The minibar didn't have a price list for any of the snacks.

Great location, beautiful decor and very friendly and efficient staff members. We loved our stay and will definitely be back!!!
Nice touches include the wine reception at 5 and coffee in the am (this being a big American city hotel doubt expect breakfast). Convenient to downtown and transportation. Staff very friendly.
Wi fi poor as is usual with big American hotels. Note: SF tax is very high (~$100 added on for two nights).
We have stayed at nearly every hotel around Union Square over the last 20 years, so when I say that the Sir Francis Drake is our Top Choice, I do mean it is and excellent hotel. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated. The lobby bar is a lively scene, especially when the guests are enjoying the complimentary wine and snacks in the late afternoon. The staff is courteous, helpful and have a pride in working at this venerable hotel. I definitely would stay here again!
My only misgiving is that there are 2 short flights of stairs at the entrance and one has to carry bags up these stairs to get to the check-in desk. The bell staff, however, gets the large bags to your room.
Great staff!! Top notch service and no request was too small!
Not enough counter space in room and bathroom to put things on.
All staff made us very welcome from Eddie the Beef-Eater door man right through our stay.
size of rooms
Failed to clean our room.
We were traveling on our honeymoon and we were kindly upgraded to a fabulous suite with a chilled bottle of champagne and chocolate dipped strawberries along with cookies and milk and a beautiful note for the staff wishing us a fantastic honeymoon. The staff both at the front desk and the concierge could not have been more helpful. It is in a prefect location!!
