Eddie on the door - excellent Burger recommendation. Big squidgy beds
All the dust around the edges.
The location was central to every thing we wanted to see and all forms of public transportation. The hotel staff was kind & attentive. The have A LOT of complimentary amenities. The rooms were clean and roomy. The beds were unbelievably comfortable and they have blackout curtains.
The minibar didn't have a price list for any of the snacks.
The atmosphere The service The location The room
The tiny bathroom
Great location, beautiful decor and very friendly and efficient staff members. We loved our stay and will definitely be back!!!
Nice touches include the wine reception at 5 and coffee in the am (this being a big American city hotel doubt expect breakfast). Convenient to downtown and transportation. Staff very friendly.
Wi fi poor as is usual with big American hotels. Note: SF tax is very high (~$100 added on for two nights).
We have stayed at nearly every hotel around Union Square over the last 20 years, so when I say that the Sir Francis Drake is our Top Choice, I do mean it is and excellent hotel. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated. The lobby bar is a lively scene, especially when the guests are enjoying the complimentary wine and snacks in the late afternoon. The staff is courteous, helpful and have a pride in working at this venerable hotel. I definitely would stay here again!
My only misgiving is that there are 2 short flights of stairs at the entrance and one has to carry bags up these stairs to get to the check-in desk. The bell staff, however, gets the large bags to your room.
Great staff!! Top notch service and no request was too small!
Not enough counter space in room and bathroom to put things on.
All staff made us very welcome from Eddie the Beef-Eater door man right through our stay.
size of rooms
Failed to clean our room.
We were traveling on our honeymoon and we were kindly upgraded to a fabulous suite with a chilled bottle of champagne and chocolate dipped strawberries along with cookies and milk and a beautiful note for the staff wishing us a fantastic honeymoon. The staff both at the front desk and the concierge could not have been more helpful. It is in a prefect location!!
The staff was very friendly housekeeping did very well also.
Concierge was of very little assistance with helping us with our touring of Alcatraz and seemed to be at a loss as to how help us see it with out the touring companies which he was unable to reach by phone after numerous attempts. The bathroom was very tiny, sink didn't drain well and was never fixed even after my request. The shower temp was a lil more than like warm everytime we showered. I have paid much less for a room and had better facilities. I was very displeased paying 1700.00 for a five night stay for the accommodations. I will seek a different hotel my next stay and will likely not choose kimpton. Had I only paid 180.00 a night I would not be as dissappointed but I've stayed at a ritz for the same price and had a much nicer experience.
Location and friendliness of staff
Room size very small and cramped. No counter space at all in bathroo
bathroom tiny, poorly outfitted
Location for visits and dining
Decoration somewhat tired. No drink-making facility in room.
Location is perfect and the hotel has an great atmosphere. Loved the charm and decor
The beauty of the hotel, the genuine niceness of the staff, the wine in the afternoon in such a great setting. The restaurant was very nice as was the wait staff. It is the place to stay for bygone elegance. Not cookie cutter or chain mentality.
The room was very small but I guess when you get a reduced rate that's what you get.
the central location of this hotel ment that nothing that we wanted was more than a short walk away. great staff, very friendly and attentive especially mary on the front desk.
when asking for a large bath towel please don't give me the same size as the ones already in the room. i'm asking for a large one so that it will encompass my girth and be able to be tied securely. a bath robe will have the same problem when sized normal.
The front desk staff and the concierge were wonderful. Friendly and helpful.
It isn't a good hotel if you want any sleep at all. The Starlight bar/lounge is located on the top floor of the hotel. It is "thee place to see and be seen". It was a very noisy hotel. Elevators were busy with people coming and going. There was a pre-party next door to our room which went until the wee hours. We finally had to call the front desk to complain. It didn't help. The rooms are old, the beds are small and there was no soap or the usual toiletries in the room.
Room was too small
The building, friendly staff, comfy beds, cleanliness of room, location.
The bathroom was too small and no place to put personal things.
The location, it's closeness to stores and restaurants.
The Hotel does not have its own parking place…they have valley parking but you don't have the liberty to go back to your car if you need to get or put something in it. Before I forget the bathroom door does not lock and it's so small, my wife and daughter had no room to put their make-up on.
I appreciated the service, cleanliness and uniqueness and the fact that our room was quiet (requested an inside room to avoid street noise). My friend and I loved the decorating details from the lobby to our room. We also were happy to hear about a parking garage close by for only $1 per hour (that's cheap for San Francisco)!
I can't complain about anything. The only tip I would give is that there is a "hidden" elevator from street level to lobby if you want to avoid carrying your luggage up and down the stairs.
