Our taxi driver found the address hard to find due to it being fairly new post code. I had researched the area and had an idea of the area of where to direct him to but I would advise (as Sky City do on their website) to take a print out map to show them. The apartments are called Laguna, this is a residential building and Sky City only own/rent apartments within it. the name Sky City does not appear on the outer of the building. Also be aware of ferry timetables as none are running from the nearby Newport terminal anymore and the weekend service to World Trade Centre is not operational from Hoboken at the moment. It was a half hour walk to Paulus Hook which we enjoyed but that might not suitable for everyone.
Wow, what a find! As soon as we opened the door to our 2 bed, 2 bath, partial view there was a whoop of delight from my friends. The apartment was large, bright, modern, clean and nicely presented with an amazing view of the Manhattan skyline. There was a well equipped kitchen although we did have a little trouble using the cork screw...not to worry though, David the Concierge was happy to help us remove the cork and show us the 'technique' for further bottles...what a star! We headed straight up to the excellent roof terrace to catch a most wonderful sunset. This for me was one of the best moments of our visit.
There's everything you would need here, from a short to long stay...from washing machine to iron and ironing board to hairdryer, dishwasher and the most asked for of all...good Wifi. We were sadly only there 3 nights so did not make use of everything provided.
We had arranged with Marie at Sky City customer service, via email, to leave our luggage for storage on the last day at the local office. When we mentioned to David Garcia he said it would be fine to leave them at the apartments. Marie explained that Sky City don't tell you that you can do this due to them not owning the building but do ask or 'mention' it to the concierge when you arrive if you need that service. David arranged a new taxi to the airport for us and also contacted Marie, who had pre- booked one for us from the local office, to let her know to cancel. It is stressed that they are not an hotel but we had a great service from all concerned.
I was a little concerned about booking accommodation outside of NY because my friends where worried about the walk and commute to the city being safe but we had no reason to be worried. The whole area of Newport has undergone renovation and it is a clean, safe, peaceful and pleasant place to walk around. The PATH train was easy to use and mostly painless but it does get pretty packed as you might expect.
