Great location right near Times Square in NYC The beds were really uncomfortable and we were originally given a tiny, tiny room and when we complained suddenly we were able to have a room 3 times the size that was in the same price bracket - why wouldn't you give people the best room available?? The concierge was rude and did not seem keen to help. However one of the front desk staff was really nice.

Location and we were on the 12th floor which was very quiet and spacious. Reception staff helpful especially Joey. Disappointed with the Delicatessan next door - you can choose better places by turning left out of the hotel and then left again to 6th street. Very hot so the air conditioning was good.

It's not 'modern' style, more 'traditional', but it is refurbished to a good standard, new bathrooms, newly redecorated rooms, etc. and rooms were spotlessly clean every day. Quite comfortable, felt 'at home' very quickly. If you just want somewhere well located to stay, without facilities like restaurants or bars in the hotel, I'd recommend St James. In this location it's much smarter to go out to eat or drink, you'll get great breakfasts at so many places far cheaper than in any hotel, so I really don't see any drawbacks. The location is absolutely perfect if you want the hustle and bustle and neon of Times Square, you can crowd surf the pavements (which is the nice way to say it's crazily busy in ny at holiday time in tourist areas, which is the case whichever hotel you choose in those areas) but in our rooms 8th and 12th floors, we heard no noise from the outside. Can't comment on air-con, we were there at New Year, but the heating is certainly good, rooms were toast warm after cold days outside. I don't have any negative comments.

Location, location, location. The hotel was in walking distance of TImes Square, 5th Ave, the Empire State Building, Top of the Rock, and many more fabulous spots as well as great eateries. Also I would just like to mention Joey who worked at the front desk. He was so nice and friendly and make us feel welcome. He always remembered our room number and had something funny to say--we looked forward to seeing him.

The location is great, Just down the street from Times Square. The hotel is not well kept up, frayed carpets, cheap furniture, damaged elevators... And not any amenities anymore although it appears in the past it may have offered much more.

Location was excellent and on the whole, helpful staff even though there seemed to be about 10 different receptionists during the four night stay. Flea bites from the beds even though the rooms appeared spotless and were cleaned each day.

Its location and proximity to Times Square and Broadway - 5 minute walk. Basic budget hotel with no frills but fit for purpose. Handy diner next door for breakfast and several restaurants on west 45th street.

The room we were in was simple and cozily furnished. The sheets and towels were fresh everyday. Front desk staff were friendly, except the concierge. No bellboys; too hard to get a taxi.

Liked the location, close to time square, tour buses and broadway,Can walk to most places from hotel, good deli next door. Hotel 100 years old, found room a little spartan,eg no hair drier or kettle, but clean and tidy. For amount of time spent in room and price paid ok

Friendliness of staff, clean room, nice bathroom were great. Asked for quiet room and got one. Has a concierge. Common areas were nice. Intend to go back. Security at night was a bit lax. I just walked right in, and got on the elevator with no problems. Concierge didnt speak good English and didnt know anything about Amtrak schedules.

Liked the size of room and loaction We called before making a reservation to ensure that we could get an early check in. The room could have been ready shortly after 9 when the maids were supposed to show up. However, the man working behind the desk who was not hospitable didn't even tell the maids that we were waiting for a room with a King bed so they could clean it. Instead, I told a maid that we were waiting for a room after an hour of waiting and the room was then ready within ten minutes. I told the man that he should have asked the maid and he replied "you're lucky I'm even letting you check in early." He seemed mad that I interrupted him while surfing the internet on a personal, not work level.

I liked the location of the hotel. It was only a few blocks from Time Square. The hotel was clean, with fresh towel and linens everyday. The maid service was excellent! The concierge desk was friendly and helpful. I didn't like that the television didn't have a remote control, and it was an old tube tv. I would recommend updating the television.

The hotel was clean and centrally located. The price was excellent, and there is a very good deli next door. Overall, was an excellent choice for us. The heat couldn't be regulated effectively in our room. The problem was not that it was cold in the room, but rather too hot.

Nice position (2 minutes walking to Times Square, 3 minutes from Tube stations), value for money hotel. Aged structure, noise in the room every night coming from the street and from hotel air conditioning system

A good basic clean hotel room. Friendly staff. Price is about one half of the best hotel in the area. Large lockers on first floor to hold your luggage after check out while you finish your visit to Times Square or see that Broadway show, cost is only $5.. Close to Times Square and local eateries. Towels could be larger and thicker, no hair dryer in room, TV is small tube set, not a flat screen, but in New York who spends much time watching TV. Bed was a bit hard.

The hotel was tired and somewhat aged. The rooms and the general condition of the hotel was not of a standard one would expect for the room rate. As seasoned travelers throughout Europe and the usa we have come to know the level of service and ambiance provided by other hotel groups. We wpouldn't stay here again.

Staff very friendly, location perfect, very clean room and affordable fees. We were 4 friends, and we enjoyed very much our stay. Next time i visit NYC i'll stay at St.James Hotel again. But i have a question. when i made my check in they took my credit card and the total amount of my stay was withdrawed from my card and with an extra money of almost $50. it was a visa card and i payed with it in many stores in NYC without extra fees. and i think that they should have waited for me to check out before they got all the amount. And they withdrawed the money from my card in two transactions for the 2 rooms we had which made me pay the extra fees 2 times, on each transaction almost $50. thank u How they handled transactions of my check out. (here up details)

I really liked the location. It is very convenient for shopping. This is my second stay with them & will hopefully have the opportunity to return. The only thing about the hotel I did not like was that I stayed there a year ago & the elevator was being renovated & when I returned a year later it was in the exact same stage of its renovation!!(if not worse!) Also the room was either too hot or too cold, but for the amount of time we actually spent in the room it wasn't a big deal
