Reception staff were extremely helpful and informative. Accommodation was old part of down town LA. Cheap accommodation more suitable for the young and back packing person rather than the more elderly.
The area looked around hotel looked tired and in need of renovation. There where a lot of down and outs sleeping rough around hotel and immediate area. A lot of noise at night even though we were 15 flights up from ground level. Limited free WiFi.
Way on lane for the bathroom
I got hot deal - so very good price (comparing SF) and no bad location. On the 5 th floor there is a kitchen.
Convenient. Simple. Fun neighborhood. Good price.
Bed somewhat uncomfortable.
location is good
nothing in the kitchen
I ilked the cleaniness of the room, restroom, showers and neighbors. real friendly place to stay
Location is good. Free wi-fi, breakfast.
In last two days they didn't come to clean my room
Location, price, and size. This is a old hotel that was converted into a hostel with minimal reinvestment. If your not picky about stylish hotel decor and over the top amenities then this place is perfect. Location cannot be beat for this price in comparison to other hotels around the Staples Center.
Showers weren't good, and hotel was old. Barely spent anytime inside anyways.
Convenient location close to public transit - metro stations, easy access to Hollywood via Red line. Nice lobby. Good breakfast. Staff was friendly.
Does not have lockers in the rooms. Location may not be very pleasant for those who are not used to downtown.
I did like restroom in our room and shower basically behind the door, but it was luck.
I didn't like slow internet, sometimes it was off at all, on my question whether it is possible to do something with it, I've been told that the receptionist is not IT man and reason is that hotel is full. After few days my room mate told me that there is breakfast for everyone, nobody said that in the reception when I signed in. Guy from security had to check every person entering the building, he seemed that he is doing something on the computer instead. And you can't call locally from the phone in your room and there is no other phone at the reception, I've been told that I have to find the phone on the street, that's it, no mention about rates and so on.
Within walking distance of the gamut of environments of central LA.
My room was dark & dingy with good reception of the deafening passage of emergency vehicles at all hours of the night!
Others may dislike the rooms and complain but I found Stay on Main exc value for money. Private rooms are airy and clean, nothing to write home about but good enough to crash or chill between outings in la. Staff always helpful and accomodating WiFi I am not sure as I used my cell. Location is what it is- its downtown la so it has a bit of a edgy vibe which was down my alley.
Breakfast left a bit to be desired
Downtown location and setting
Shared amenities just sufficient for guests
The location is near to metro rail and buses...
Quiet atmosphere on hall way
I was looking for cheapest one to stay before I leave from Los Angeles. This hostel was one of the cheapest one I found in last minutes. It was very noisy outside and the parking fee was really expensive. The website did not mention how much parking lot would cost. It just said that it will be cost little bit. I spent 15 dollars for overnight parking and 48.51dollars included tax for the room. I spent $63.51. It was not cheap at all. I was really annoyed to spent extra money tath I was not expected at all. the check-in line also took forever. There was only one person at the desk. I've been waiting for more than 40 minutesr And only about 6 people were in front of me. I also called employee that where the kitchen was. She told me it was on 6th floor but I couldn't see it and I called her again and she said it was located on 5th floor for sure and it was not there. I went to 4th floor for the last try and it was there. She did not even know where the kitchen was.
Was close to fashion district, wifi worked relatively well
Bed was awful, lumpy couch cushions for pillows, no air con, TV kept dying, showers and toilets small and filthy, elevators stopped working, breakfast was minimal, noisy neighbourhood, rooms were sparse, wouldnt recommend or stay here again.
I have stayed here a couple of times. The value is great. The place is simple, but clean and convenient amenities.
This place is literally on the border of the worst slum I have ever been in, including 3rd world countries. CAREFUL!! The staff isn't helpful to point out where to go to keep their guest safe.
Hot waffles for breakfast, unlimited hot water in showers
Slow, disconnecting wifi, slightly warm rooms, and kinda sketchy neighborhood, but it's a value and I'd stay again for sure.
morning breakfast (the waffles), but they need to do something new sometimes cuz every day is the same, the lobby looks nice, clean.
they never credited back my deposit 50$!!, the staff were very disappointing any I ask they reply:google it or it's close by here, the place is fullllll of homeless people u just ruin ur day when u go down and u can hear them shouting at night, the walls and the door were very thin u can hear the next room voice and even at night we were listening to a couple while sleeping .... so it would be a disaster if u take ur kids and a member a family with u...., the room was connected to the next room with a very thin door, the tv quality was very poor with few channels, the room was without dryer until we requested for it which took 1 hour to bring it ... the last one and the one which make u never use this hostel ... I went outside with my partner and we met a friend and he asked us about the hotel we are staying in so we told him stay in main he just shouted and he said guys u are haunted! ! so we didn't understand or we did not want to understand then he said ok just when u go home after ur stay google the name of the hotel and u will know the story , and that's what happened. .. the name of hotel was cecil hotel before they change it to stay in main and I knew that after I googles the stay in main hotel to know the story and what made me sure is the reciept when they took the deposit the name was cecil hotel and sir, mum u can read more about cecil hotel on the internet and u will know how many murders happened there ..... and the black history of that crazy hotel I will never be back there I would definitely join the homless down if it was the last hotel available !!!!
good location, good value for money excellent place for young solo travelers
too noisy at night, rooms could be cleaner
The staff was friendly
The room was really small. The shower sucked it kept going from really hot water to freezing cold. The bed was really itchy.
the location is quite convenient
facility's old...the bed would make a large sound when u move on it. and bath room feels not so clean
Having to share bathrooms with others
I've never stayed at a youth hostel because if the tales I've heard about them. This place was a pleasant surprise. The staff was courteous, helpful, and knowledgable. My room was clean, with minimal furniture. Shared bathrooms were exceedingly clean. The building is an old hotel so i guess they don't have a central air system in each room. It was unseasonably warm in L.A. so my room was warm until the evening and the ceiling fan was helpful. The neighborhood was unsavory, transients asking for money and food up and down the street, but that wasn't the hotel's fault; just fyi
Hotel is near skid row. A lot of transient pe
