We were only there one night, but we liked everything about the place.C

If I had to find a negative, it would be the heat in the room - it went off every few minutes and was rather loud, but we were so tired it didn't prevent us from getting a good night's sleep.
I stayed there with my 10 1/2 year-old daughter and friends of ours with kids. The staff could not have been friendlier, from check in to check out. Rooms were clean and perfect for our stay. There is a lovely fireplace in the lobby that is almost always on. A hot tub is a perfect way to end the day as well as a bar in the restaurant.

This is the creakiest lodge I've ever stayed in. All night long, the building's pipes and/or heating system pinged and panged and creaked and moaned. It kept both my husband and me awake for most of our two nights there.
Very nice staff, great location, comfortable rooms, good breakfast.

Hotel was tired needed upgrading - breakfast was very poor
The closeness to the mountain - shuttle was excellent to the mountain

No pool .
Close to the mountain

Carpet was wet around the bed and when brought to the attention of the staff nothing was done to see what the cause was. Room was noisy not a lot of sound proofing between the floors.
Great location, and good transportation to the slopes.

There was an issue with the rooms that were booked and the staff at the Black Bear worked extra hard to resolve it. They satisfied every request of our family. They were so friendly and helpful. Thank you Aleysia!

Not a tall building, but an elevator would make the check-in / check-out with gear a lot easier. Nice indoor hot tub, but a hotel this big & nice should have a small exercise room with treadmills, etc.
good location, clean & well-organized. At first anxious about relying on a shuttle bus to get us to the main lodge, I became v. comfortable with it, as one comes every couple minutes and the lodge is only 3 minutes up the hill.

Great value for the price. Couldn't beat the location, free shuttle to the mountain (even on day we checked out) and in evenings, free breakfast.

Can't beat the location and VERY courteous shuttled rivers

No fitness facilities on site. Associated gym is very nice and within a mile but charges a fee.
Location is perfect, especially if you have older children who can ski and come home on their own. Food on site is convenient. Staff is very helpful. Lots to do in immediate area. Lounge is warm and inviting. Would definitely go back!

Continental breakfast choices limited.
Convenient to the skiing.

The hot tub was warm should be around 103 degrees to keep it safe of germs and ro help with sore legs after skiing. ..also it would be nice if it's was located outside. ... floors in room squeak
Like the location and shuttle service

Hot tub was dirty
Excellent location easy for family with children

There was a big group of us visiting a fitness center in the resort, 5 families with 2-3 kids. Unfortunately most of the group had become sick with a very strong stomach virus the following night or the morning. We are holding fitness club's pool with "salt" water a very much a suspect of that and strongly encourage resort to look into their pool maintenance policy!
Location is the key

We ate dinner in the dining room. It was chilly, uncomfortably so. The food was fine, not great, and pretty expensive for what it was.
Staff was over the top polite. Room was comfortable and free wifi was appreciated.
November 11, 2014
carpet in room was a bit outdated
property is located right on top of the Stratton Mountain. Although we did not travel during peak ski season, property is ideal for those traveling and looking for something close to mountain access.

limited choice at breakfast
October 21, 2014
The young girl at the check in has to follow some hospitality course (only two words she said were "checkin' in?"); but the lady at check out was very friendly. Rooms look very old and rusty. The complimentary breakfast was poor as well.

Very kind staff, great breakfast, nice rooms. Recommended for foliage season since the surrouning offers outstanding panoramic views.
October 7, 2014
The hot tub area was not clean, it looked like someone had a party and did not clean up. The restaurant/bar was closed that weekend, so there were not a lot of dining choices, if we had known, we would have brought snacks. And the breakfast could have been way better!
The room was very comfortable and clean. The staff was very friendly. Mary checked us in, and loaned us a cork screw, we were on a mother - daughter road trip. The lodge was easy to get to from scenic route 100.

My husband and I stayed for three days. It was pretty cold outside on some of those days. There was never a fire in the fireplace. I asked about this and the host said they had wet wood. Well, someone could go to the store and buy some dry wood. You have many people staying at this lodge, who would love to see a roaring fire when they walk it, this is extremely appealing to tourists and it creates a warm atmosphere and makes you want to come back to the Black Bear Lodge. Upon leaving, I commented that I was very dissappointed that for three days there was no fire in the fireplace and the host gave us complimentary tickets to ride the gondola to the top of the mountain, which was very nice, but maybe they should plan a little more appropriately knowing you will have a lot of people coming, to get some DRY wood and keep it protected for days when it is raining, and make a fire for these people. I also want to make a comment about the walls of the hotel. Very dirty and chopped up, probably from skiis and winter guests, but these types of things needs to be kept up even on a monthly basis, so that the walls don't look like that. Very disconcerting and not nice to look at. I will probably not book the Black Bear Lodge again for these reasons, and find a place that is more customer friendly to the people.
Beds were extremely comfortable, and it was very quiet, you could rest and relax without a lot of noise from other rooms

Not much choices at main lodge for dinner but plenty of other places to go.

It was down a hill, so walking uphill to the village was a little annoying. Other than that everything rocked.
We stayed here at the end of August, the woman at the front desk gave us a free upgrade since there were plenty of available rooms. The room was very cozy and spacious. The lodge was a short walk to the village which we really liked.
