Staff was over the top polite. Room was comfortable and free wifi was appreciated.
We ate dinner in the dining room. It was chilly, uncomfortably so. The food was fine, not great, and pretty expensive for what it was.
property is located right on top of the Stratton Mountain. Although we did not travel during peak ski season, property is ideal for those traveling and looking for something close to mountain access.
carpet in room was a bit outdated
limited choice at breakfast
The young girl at the check in has to follow some hospitality course (only two words she said were "checkin' in?"); but the lady at check out was very friendly. Rooms look very old and rusty. The complimentary breakfast was poor as well.
Very kind staff, great breakfast, nice rooms. Recommended for foliage season since the surrouning offers outstanding panoramic views.
The room was very comfortable and clean. The staff was very friendly. Mary checked us in, and loaned us a cork screw, we were on a mother - daughter road trip. The lodge was easy to get to from scenic route 100.
The hot tub area was not clean, it looked like someone had a party and did not clean up. The restaurant/bar was closed that weekend, so there were not a lot of dining choices, if we had known, we would have brought snacks. And the breakfast could have been way better!
Beds were extremely comfortable, and it was very quiet, you could rest and relax without a lot of noise from other rooms
My husband and I stayed for three days. It was pretty cold outside on some of those days. There was never a fire in the fireplace. I asked about this and the host said they had wet wood. Well, someone could go to the store and buy some dry wood. You have many people staying at this lodge, who would love to see a roaring fire when they walk it, this is extremely appealing to tourists and it creates a warm atmosphere and makes you want to come back to the Black Bear Lodge. Upon leaving, I commented that I was very dissappointed that for three days there was no fire in the fireplace and the host gave us complimentary tickets to ride the gondola to the top of the mountain, which was very nice, but maybe they should plan a little more appropriately knowing you will have a lot of people coming, to get some DRY wood and keep it protected for days when it is raining, and make a fire for these people. I also want to make a comment about the walls of the hotel. Very dirty and chopped up, probably from skiis and winter guests, but these types of things needs to be kept up even on a monthly basis, so that the walls don't look like that. Very disconcerting and not nice to look at. I will probably not book the Black Bear Lodge again for these reasons, and find a place that is more customer friendly to the people.
Not much choices at main lodge for dinner but plenty of other places to go.
We stayed here at the end of August, the woman at the front desk gave us a free upgrade since there were plenty of available rooms. The room was very cozy and spacious. The lodge was a short walk to the village which we really liked.
It was down a hill, so walking uphill to the village was a little annoying. Other than that everything rocked.
The staff was wonderful! Friendly, helpful and there for any and all questions.
The hot tub was not very inviting to go in. It needed to be cleaned badly
Room had a musty smell.
Scenic location & outstanding service!!
Staff members were very kind and helpful. Went out of their way to be helpful. Rooms were very clean and beds very comfortable. View is beautiful. I would definitely stay there again.
When I asked about pools, I wasn't told, for an indoor pool, you need to use a nearby sports facility and pay $15/day. Outdoor pool was in another location (close by)and was VERY cold. It was behind a vacant hotel and the area around pool was very dirty. Also, no small refrigerator in any of the rooms... But I'd still go back.
the decor was fine and the bed comfortable.
No frig , coffee maker or elevator.
Mary at the front desk and maintenance man Ken went above and beyond-just incredible people trying to help out two hungry, tired travelers.
most outlets in room did not work-very difficult to find in the dark
rooms are large, updated and comfortable
breakfast is quite minimal for this type of accommodation. most annoying: having to listen to 5 minutes of promotional verbiage everytime you call and then MAYBE a person will answer-- book with a third party, it's easier
Location - near village, however, Stratton Village closes at 5:00 pm
Website states pool facilities - indoor and outdoor - no indoor or indoor pool on site at all. Use of an outdoor pool is available at hotel next door which is very discrepant. Indoor pool use is at a sport complex - again, NOT onsite as one is lead to believe - which is at a cost/fee of $15!. My family was excited about playing tennis. However, tennis court was in total disrepair - grass/weeds growing up in court, fencing falling down, nets with holes, etc. Very disappointed. I have spent much less than $165/night and have had all these amenities at high quality and use. Location was beautiful and that was about it.
Receptionist on duty when I arrived Fri evening 8/1 at about 9 P.M. was extremely helpful.....I think she deserves a raise... room was very clean and comfortable....
VT tax takes advertised rate (abt $98?) to close to $120.....
The restaurant in the hotel had a very limited and rather unappealing menu. We were given breakfast vouchers but breakfast started at 7am, we were long gone for our event before that.
Staff was extremely friendly and addressed my needs as they came up in a very friendly way.
The price was steep for the amenities and room offered.
Good location, friendly staff, spacious quarters.
Small (single) bed for 2 large males was uncomfortable. Arcade needs to be updated.
Our room seemed brand new...it was a very nice stay
EVERYTHING! Super clean with extras, staff was incredibly friendly, A++++++++
The walls were very thin. Also I didn't think the morning staff was ready for the amount of people there was for breakfast.
The room and beds were comfortable. The staff was very helpful.
Only two negatives for me was the partially thread bare towel and the fact that I could hear the person above me pacing when I was trying to go to sleep.
