Concierge was excellent We reserved a deluxe room. We were assigned to room 315, which had a view to the a/c in the innercourt. ( In fact a/c blocked entite window!!). Unacceptable such rooms are offered to full paying customers. Luckely we were offered another room.

Beautiful room, extremely pleasant and helpful staff: I had the feeling that they would do their best to find the answer to any question or arrange any service. Wonderful area: right near all the museums. I felt that for the price of the room, having to pay an additional $15.95 for wireless service was a bit much.

Super Amazing staff, from the reception to the bell boy. The most friendly staff and best servicd I've ever seen in a hotel. Rooms are spacious. I love how they cared about the details when it comes to the room. Loved everything about it.

The doorman was totally rude...an old man with a black beret. He insulted me while I was smoking (in front of the ashtray) outside the hotel...very bizarre and did not match with the high standing of this place.

The staff were exceptionally helpful particularly the concierge. The rooms were lovely and it was convenient for NYC without being right in the heart of the city centre.

The location, restaurant and decor. The situation of our room on 5 floor over a street side entrance to the hotel meant that the garbage collection truck woke us every night at 3 - 4am collecting the rubbish and later on delivery vans with reversing signals which woke us again delivering to the hotel. Room was not that well sound proofed.

Location, primarily. A nice view and rooftop bar. The quality of service was not up to the standard of this hotel's reputation and cost. The general attitude of the staff (towards us at least) was largely indifferent. One example: while there was at least one doorman on hand at all times, they were usually so distracted chatting with other staff that we got most of our own doors during our stay (which I don't mind of course, but then, why bother pretend with the doorman?). Also, upon arrival we discovered that (a) the rooftop bar that had attracted us to the hotel was closed for the season and (b) there was work being done to the building which resulted in intolerable noise from early morning to mid afternoon... ending any chance for us to recover from jetlag! This was supposed to be the 'comfort' end of our New York visit, and at nearly twice the price of our other hotels, it was literally half as good. If you want to be looked after, try a Kimpton hotel or some such...

The Surrey is an exquisite hotel in a great location near Central Park. Rooms are immaculate and service was impeccable. On arrival, being greeted with warm towels and champagne set the tone for an amazing stay. The staff was exceptional and very friendly. Whatever we needed we had in a moment’s notice. Only one minor thing....One very late evening, my daughter had a Bloody Mary drink which, unfortunately, was not very good.

The Dux bed and linens couldn't have been more comfortable. Every member of the staff, from the doorman, to the front desk to housekeeping was warm, friendly, professional and competent. The rooms are beautifully decorated, functional and spotless clean. The cuisine and service at the restaurant are exceptional. The location is ideal for going to museums, Central Park and high end shopping. I was shocked to discover there was not a soaking tub, only a shower in the bathroom. In 35+ years of traveling around the world, every hotel had a tub. In NYC I usually walk miles and for hours on the streets and hard stone museum floors and can't wait to collapse into a hot bath at the end of the day. The hotel was fully booked the two nights we were there so it wasn't possible to upgrade to a tub unit. The other disappointment was walking into the room and seeing scaffolding right outside the window and being awaken by construction noise. Because of the construction, the rooftop garden/bar was closed and that was one of the main reasons I booked at the Surrey.

Excellent Concierge-service. Roof terrace. No thee- and coffee-facilities in the room. A bit too much 'American Kitsch': eg. the numberindication on the roomdoors in the form of a fake pending photoframe and the horrible parfum in the lobby, but these are details.

Nice, quiet and comfortable room--very expensive, but perfect boutique hotel for spending time eating and shopping on the Upper East Side. There was nothing not to like! Could have used another set of large towels though,

Location was perfect! Loved the beautiful bed & the luxurious linens. The rooftop bar was one our favorite spots. Rooms were quiet...we had heard from other reviews that it could be noisy but we had no problem although we were on the 6th floor. The only negatives were the expensive Wi Fi & the airconditioning in the room was too cold & it took hours to get it to a comfortable temp. When we inquired about limousine service to the airport it was twice the going rate.
