We stayed in the same hotel two years ago and were put in a much nicer room and is the only reason why we returned. I had no idea the motel had rooms as bad as the one we stayed in during this visit. We would have been better off staying in a Motel 6 and going to Sycamore only for the massage.
The walls were so thin, we could hear the neighbors screaming and slamming the head board against the wall in the middle of the night. For the price paid for the room we expected nice accommodations, what we got was a room with dirty carpet that was dilapidated.
I love the private hot tub we had in the Harmony Building.
I was a little surprised by the 15 dollar fee per day that was added to the hotel fee. The decor in the rooms was also outdated and there were some stains in the bathroom when we came arrived.
The friendliness of the staff was amazing. Went there on my engagement night. Had a great night. Hike up the hill was nice with great view.
Nothing. Not being able to stay longer.
Food in restaurant was fabulous lovely waiter hotel and rooms needed a bit of a facelift but it was clean bit mor TLC!
Location and privacy
It was outdated. It needs renovation and upgrading. The outdoor hot tub was all patched up! TV in the bedroom was analog! Old carpet.
private hot tub in room quiet setting restful atmosphere service of personnel excellent cuisine, although expensive
lack of microwave
The room was very very nice. The area was a quiet, secluded and lovely place to spend an anniversary, even though it's pretty close to a busy road. The staff was very friendly for the most part. I loved the mineral spring hot tub and the shower with dual heads was wonderful.
Upon checking in, we tried to make reservations for brunch the next day but were told they were not necessary. The walk to the room was difficult with all our luggage. We were told to wait by our car for a bellman with a cart who never came, so we lugged everything ourselves which was really not a good way to start the weekend. The first night at about 3 am, the smoke alarm started chirping and announcing a low battery- when we couldn't take it anymore, we called, but nobody had a key to the storage area so they could get a ladder until 8 am, so we had a horrible nights sleep. The bed was too soft for our tastes. The next morning we went for brunch, and they were annoyed that we didn't have a reservation, they found a place for us but we felt like uninvited guests. Upon checkout I mentioned the smoke detector issue, they just smiled and said sorry, which was really not acceptable. This was an expensive 2 nights, we are not rich and this was a very special occasion we scrimped and saved for, maybe we expected too much or maybe they were just having a bad weekend, but there were some disappointing aspects.
Location and overall value. Food fair.
Sub standard mattresses and pillows. Hot tubs in a somewhat dis-repaired state
- the room was private and very nice - the restaurant on site was amazing - the garden and park areas were beautiful - great trails for walking - nice spa
- the TVs in the room didnt work
Massage, location to beaches and SLO, natural beauty
Too close to main road, restaurant, double taxation on rooms
It's set in the beautiful hills only a short drive from Avila Beach and San Luis Obispo. Nice to be on the Bob Jones Trail. Comfortable bed.
The room was hideous! The interior design was highly lacking, the furniture was arranged poorly, the room just looked cheap, even though they're not cheap rooms. Could have gotten something nicer at a Holiday Inn.
Great location Comfortable bed bikes to rent to take to the beach private patio spa
fireplace could have been better
we loved the room the hot tubs the setting. Everything it was great!
I didn't like the green lawns, considering California is in a big, massive, historic drought.
Location was near everything we wanted to do.
plumping issues which we report first day but found out was never return by the person on the front desk. Rooms not very well sound proof. Not planning to stay there on our next visit.
The suite was beautiful and very comfortable.
I did not like the bed being so high. There was no stool to use to get in and out of the bed so I had to use a chair. I stand 5'5" and the was higher than my stomach. Also I had difficulty finding your phone number on the website so I had to call information to access it.
Grounds are beautiful. Breakfast in the restaurant was good. Hot tub was nice. Beds were nice and comfortable.
Based on the photos online we thought there would be an ocean view from at least some of the rooms or somewhere on the grounds. The walls/ceilings were thin and not very sound proof. the occupants above us were stomping back and forth across their room and it was quite noisy. You could hear them talking fairly clearly. (Perhaps they were very loud people?) My husband didn't like that Wi-Fi and TV channels were not included.
The customer service is outstanding. We always arrive late, sometimes the middle of the night and we are greeted as if we were family. The rooms are clean and comfortable but some are a bit dated, not shabby but there are minor maintenance issues. I always wish I had more time to enjoy a spa treatment, the therapeutic message or hot stone message are amazing. The spa is beautiful. The Gift shop is great, it has the necessities if you have forgotten something, snacks and fun things to look at. My daughter and I found Sycamore Springs when we visited Cal Poly for the first time three years ago. It is our "go to" place for the Cal Poly area. For us it is the perfect balance of higher end hotel and restaurant for me and yoga classes with spa treatments and meditation gardens for my daughter. Compared to what you get for your dollar at one of the chain hotels closer to campus Sycamore Springs is an amazing value.
This is the first stay at Sycamore that we had any trouble sleeping. We were downstairs rather than upstairs and the guests above us were very loud. Navigating the hill and the parking close to our room is always a challenge but we are aware of it and think the hike is worth it. Hike because the golf cart on the hill scares me.
The free classes that were welcoming to people of levels and the Jacuzzi on the lanai :-)
Weak Wi-Fi signal
We liked the hot tub on the balcony which is a standard feature for this facility. We like the area, Avila Beach is a favorite of ours. Stayed at Sycamore before in the upgrade suites and loved it. This time was in the standard room... read what we didn't like.
Room was in a detached building with very poor access, especially the second floor. The room wasn't much bigger than Motel 6 and the bathroom was smaller. Water temp in shower varied as you showered. Pipes in walls made noise ALL the time. Had to use fan on AC unit to drown out the pipe noise. It wasn't a room that one would expect to get when paying $250 a night. I love the area and I've stayed in the upgraded suites before which were a vast improvement over this standard room. I'll not do a standard room again. Not worth it.
On a scale of 1 to 10 I would rate our stay plus the facility a 12!
Rest & Relaxation is the name of the game at this place. Each room has a hot tub that you fill with warm mineral springs water to rest those tired bones and muscles. The restaurant is fantastic with all locally grown ingredients on the menu. The Sycamore is fantastic and I recommend you go for a few days, you won't regret it.
The real issue we had was parent control with there children. When we go the a resort it's for rest and relaxation. Not listening to screaming kids in a hot tub.
The mineral hot tub with the room. The dinner at The Garden was incredibly delicious. We would definitely return for a visit to the restaurant. The trails were nice to have close by.
The additional $15.00 fee for services we didn't use. The fee for internet should 1) be included; 2) not be a part of the stay 3)should be charged to people who want to use it. Our goal was to be "unplugged" for a few days. The pool should be included in cost of room. It was unavailable to us the morning of check out because of work around the pool. The grounds/buildings seemed run down. Our bathroom door wouldn't shut without effort; a step on the ladder in the pool broke as my husband climbed out - he only weighs about 190. Would like to have seen the help volunteer to help. Cleaning the second day found 1 bathrobe not replaced, coffee still in the pot, and the ice container still sitting on the bathroom floor.
its always booked lol its hard to find a room available
