convenience to shopping, clubs
Quiet clean room, spacious nice lobby with friendly garden The fact that i could open my window in my room
There were only 2 showers for all the women on my floor. And some girls seem to shower for ever so..i had to wait quite a while The lighting in my bedroom
The staff was friendly, but they did not any information about the facilities, vending machine and common area etc. The location is very good.
Friendly helpful staff Free coffee lot of space in the lobby possibility to store the luggage
very small room shower didn´t work on the third floor
Heating far to strong and could not turn off. Had to sleep with window open
Warm welcome from well organised, efficient and friendly staff. Quiet area, free wifi AND the use of an iPad. Well situated: 10mns to North Bay for trains and transit, Library; 20mns or so to the Arts Museum (fabulous collection) and the Charles River or the Common; 30mns to the charming old town with its bars, pubs and restaurants, and the Waterfront, ferries and the link to Logan. A supermarket for all those essentials accross the road and next to it 'Billy' coffee shop for excellent value breakfast. Staff particularly helpful.
Nothing. Book ahead for best prices.
Very welcoming place and convenient.
The heater was too strong
- good location - friendly staff - towels included - bathrooms cleaned every morning - good base
- no frills accomodation - wifi only ok - not modern
I stayed in Boston for 4 days/3 nights. Great location in the nice south end area of Boston. Very convenient 24-hour front desk, spacious lobby
Room was clean but there was a constant bad smell in the room. Bathroom and shower were ok but only two showers for the whole floor. Noisy next door tenants, even at 4ham in the morning
Walkable distance to city center, South Station. Friendly and helpful staff. Wi-fi in room.
The mattress was far from optimal for needs of young couple... :-)
Staff were friendly and accommodating, rooms were simple but sufficient, nice view from windows, clean bathrooms.
It's a bit of a walk from tourist attractions in the North End, but not hard for big walkers.
The hotel is close to all the restaurants and shopping facilities. Walking the distance can be fun. Staff seemed friendly.
The Hotel smelled funny on the floor we were on. It looked dreadful. The floor mats looked brown and uncleaned. The room had no bathroom. There was a communal bathroom for the floor.
Location and price
The prices at 40 Berkeley have more than doubled over the past year. At the same time, they got Rid Of Breakfast. It's still the best deal in town, but at the new Rates, I do sort of miss having Both a mattress and a box spring....
well is in good location clean rooom
well what did i didnt like is first price was little higher and also most of the hostels they do give breakfast which is there was no breakfast and also other hostels that I stayed they had have plastic key card if you lose one they just give you another one there is no charge and 40 berkeley street its kind of old building needs to be renewed if you lose your key you get charged 25 dollars, because of that prices should be less than 70 dollars another reason no breakfast
We took our 7 year old trick or treating on Halloween. We are from Luxembourg and it was important for her. The neighborhood people were wonderful and we felt at home. Had nice breakfasts across the street.
The building, while clean, is looking a little worn.
I liked the location the staff was nice the closeness to a breakfast diner and 7/11 across the street I liked the price The womens bathroom on my floor was newly renovated and very nice I would come again because I really like to be able to book a low priced room and this hostel has a very nice location. You are not paying for any extra quality, so don´t expect it, and I would not go there on a romantic trip with your significant other. But for any other reason its fine
The room was ok, but very small and uninviting do not book a room at this hostel if you are going on a romantic holiday! There is nothing romantic or nice about the rooms. They do their function, allow you to sleep and put your luggage away. You do not want to spend any time inside the room, which is ok unless you were planning a romantic stay.. The radiator was broken, as soon as the hostel turned the radiators on (on all rooms) ours was unable to turn down the heat. So we had to bear with the unbearable heat throughout the night, and we spent 6 nights like that, horror!! I would recommend that the hostel put couches in the tv room instead of some of the chairs. If you are a clean freak this might not be the hostel for you. It´s not that the cleaning people don´t clean (they do, and everything is ok/nice in that way) Its just the whole facility is old, old carpets on the floors with stains (hallways), old doors (some have dampness damage) etc. Those things did not bother me, everything is cept clean and ok but for some it would not meet their standards. ..The hostel should really spend few bucks on new hairdryers, the ones they have are a joke. I was actually contemplating using the Dyson hand-dryer in the women´s bathroom to blow my hair after using the hotel´s hairdryer for over 30 min. Without my hair getting dry!! Hairdryers are not that expensive and since the hostel reseption loans it out it should not have to buy that many..
So long as the prospective client doesn't expect more than a bare-bones hostel, he'll be happy. The room is small and stripped to the essentials - a bed, a desk that looks like it was made in an elementary school woodshop class and a table; no tv, no carpet, no telephone, no pictures on the wall and no a/c. The linens are not changed. On the plus side, the room was clean, the communal bathrooms were clean and the price was right. There are a couple of ok breakfast places a block away. This seemed to be the last room in Boston under $600/night and we felt lucky to get it.
40 Berkeley has four rooms with bathrooms; we would have liked one of them, but they were already booked. At least the communal bathrooms were clean.
Staff extremely helpful, facilities and room spotless, 5 mins walk from subway station. Wireless worked very well. I was able to leave my bag while I went exploring, even though I had checked out.
The bed and pillow were too firm, but that's all.
The twin room was old, but it was clean and confortable.
Location Staff friendly and helpful Excellent views of the skyline from 6th floor Shared Washroom very clean & tidy
Room stuffy with only a ceiling fan No mirror in room No chair in room No curtains on windows to keep the light out
Excellent location, nice welcome from staff. Rooms are OK size. They seem to put a lot of effort into keeping things clean.
Rooms are old converted offices. Basically an office with a bed in it. The bathroom is also an old office bathroom - they really need updating for comfort.
Location is good, near by Back Bay Subway Station. Free Wi-fi, complimentary Starbucks Coffee.
There is only one common shared bathroom. there are 3 showers, but with one break down that couldn't even be fixed till the day I left. Need to have sense of urgency on this issue as the guests from the entire level are dependent on this one and only bathroom. Should also provide free shower gel and shampoo at the bathroom.
One of the cheaper options in a very expensive city. After reading reviews I expected this to be much worse than it was... its not fancy but comfortable and I was pleasantly surprised. Breakfast is no longer offered however the staff honoured the fact we booked when they did offer breakfast and gave us vouchers for the cafe across the road. On site washing machines handy.
Still expensive for what you get but that is Boston in general. Rooms too hot but we kept the window open all the time to let in cool air. Had to ask to have free breakfast honoured. Old slow elevators.
I just love the location of this hotel! 10mins walk from common park and downtown area, 5mins walk to Berkly Station. It's just prepared for a dorm student!
No air condition, so choose the right weather to live in this hotel (like in fall), cleaner never came to our room, we need to clean room ourselves every single day.
