Best of both worlds: old charm with total comfort. Beds, common room, breakfast areas are all a delight to be in. Staff is sweet and helpful. Exceptional breakfasts, and I enjoyed mine on the porch under a shade tree.
Really loved the ambiance. Nice, quaint little place.
Great location for us, just 5 minutes walk from family. Less expensive than other hotels. Good breakfast included.
Small room on top floor and had to carry our own bags.
Snacks on arrival, personable staff who went out of their way to help. Breakfast on the porch the next morning. Really lovely!
I couldn't stay for longer.
The assistant was helpful, the breakfast was goo, it was close to the T
I had requested two beds, I thought the carpets were worn and snappy, not "oldand quaint"
Warmth, responsiveness of staff. Food quality, variety and quantity was amazing for not being a restaurant! Bed was very comfortable. Staff and guests all were so friendly. Can walk to anything. We liked that it was similar to a B&B, but in a self-serve style... and there was no real forced socialization. People were friendly, but one didn't feel obligated to be social unless desired.
Parking ... it would be nice not to have to pay for parking on top of the room rate. Otherwise, couldn't think of anything! If the room were free, that would be ideal, but.. :)
It was quiet. The coffee was excellent! The towels were large & soft.
The bed was a little hard & could've used a few more pillows. Breakfast was a little too English for our taste
Enjoyable atmosphere, comfortable and quiet, and friendly and accommodating staff.
The T was just down the street from the inn and it was very easy to get back and forth from the city. We also appreciated the "early" continental breakfast set out the night before. We came in after a late Red Sox game and had a very early checkout the next morning. We are sorry we couldn't stay for breakfast which looked delicious. We would stay there again and definitely recommend it.
Location was great for my purpose. Breakfast was good.
The bed was a full sized bed not a queen, for two people.
old facility charm, tea and snacks available anytime!
very small room, bed was so-so
The atmosphere, the staff, the homey, warm feel, and the fact that you can have a leisurely snack at "tea time" or after a late night out. The Bertram truly feels like a "home away from home."
Probably a small elevator for luggage or tired older people would be nice, although I understand that it might ruin the esthetic, the old-world charm of the inn.
Great b&b in terms of location, ambiance, and amenities.
The Bertram Inn is a very charming place to stay. The staff was very friendly and courteous. It is in an excellent location (close proximity to a taxi stand and the subway). The robes provided in the rooms are a nice touch. The toiletry items are a good quality. The variety of breakfast items was great and the daily breakfast special was delicious. It was nice that coffee, tea, and snacks were available 24/7. The room was very clean and each decorated with its own charm and personality.
The bathroom was small, but I noticed that bathroom size did vary from room to room. It would have been nice to have had something in the tub/shower area to accommodate the bath soap, shampoo, and conditioner. I am not a fan of feather pillows, but I did not ask if there was another choice, so there may have been. My room was at the top of the second floor stairs, so could get a little noisy at times.
Beautiful b&b who welcomed our dog....hard to find combination.
Great ambiance and staff
absolutely a lovely place to stay
a minor point, warm breakfast is served relatively late for people that stay for business
Warm coziness and flexibility of staff
It may be difficult for me to convince my wife that we should plan to return sometime because no accommodations were apparent to meet her needs for gluten free food for breakfast.
we have come for many years and we like the atmosphere and the staff,it is easy to get around and the brookline area is safe and very pleasant
The building was charming; each room is unique. Didn't try the breakfast on either day, but it smelled delicious.
We didn't know until we arrived that our two-night stay meant we had to change rooms after the first night. While the hotel staff moved everything for us, it was annoying to have to repack everything before we left for the day. I also found the bed in the first room uncomfortable; I awoke with a stiff back.
Lovely old building, well maintained; clean, very comfortable, very good breakfast, easy access to public transportation, parking on-site, relatively inexpensively.
The charm of the Bertram Inn. It was very comfortable and welcoming.
Our room, which was the smallest at the Bertram Inn, was quite small.
Quaint Bed and Breakfast in charming 1900 era large home in excellent residential neighborhood in Brookline/Boston. The second room we had was excellent. A great place to stay to visit and sightsee walking tours. Access to 2 't' lines is a nearby walk - one 2 blocks a way, the other about 8. Both walks are through quiet neighborhoods.
First room we had was imposing hardwood paneled room - but it opened directly onto the main entrance lobby. The lobby was quiet, but we felt more comfortable moving to the other large room on the first floor which was further back in the hallway.
I love the location and the ambiance, the house reminds me of home because I used to live in this neighborhood when I lived in Brookline in the 60's and 70's so it was like going home. The rooms are tastefully decorated and very clean and the bed's are comfortable with lovely feather pillows.
If you stay in room five you have to go down the hall to use the bathroom or toilet. The hall bath is for your own private use but you still have to truck down the public hall way to get there and the grout around the bath was pretty grotty needing replacement or more vigorous cleaning.
I have stayed at the Bertram Inn 4 times now. I love the ambiance of a lovely old guest house. They serve a wonderful home-made buffet breakfast, which can't be beaten. It is in a lovely part of Boston and close to public transportation.
This trip, for the first time in 4 visits, I was very disappointed in the room. It was so small that you could not open the bathroom door fully, because the double bed was in the way. It was necessary for them to remove some furniture to make room for our luggage. They did refund us some money, because of our complaints, but I feel the room did not justify its price and would warn others not to accept this room, number 6, or room 5, which does not have a bathroom attached to the room, but it is located down the hall.
