Not really a bad experience but I asked for a bath rather than a shower. The, tub, however, was tiny! I've never seen such a small tub. Not a big deal, would still come again.
The architecture of the house, the living room stocked with snacks, newspapers, games as well as comfortable seating. Parking on site. Convenient location to green line, wonderful bakeries and a number of shops.
Booking said my Jr. Suite would have a fireplace but when I checked in I was given a room without. When I phoned the front desk I was told it was because I "booked on-line and should have spoken to an actual person". Seriously? The room was not clean and was in disrepair- it look tired and in need of a remodel. Carpet was stained. The extra blanket was clearly not freshly laundered. The only blanket on the bed was not even a blanket, but a hard/scratchy bedspread. The Inn advertises high end mattresses, however, after sleeping on one I do not believe it; it was hard, lumpy and not the least bit luxurious. For the same price, I should have stayed in a high end hotel.
There was nothing I didn't like about in this place.
I like traditional inns and this is a comfortable one. The inn is located in an interesting neighborhood where it is nice to walk around and that has great amount of restaurants and other services nearby. The tram is just a block away so Boston city is easy to go to.
parking in the snow.
Breakfast. Bed bathroom
Best of both worlds: old charm with total comfort. Beds, common room, breakfast areas are all a delight to be in. Staff is sweet and helpful. Exceptional breakfasts, and I enjoyed mine on the porch under a shade tree.
Really loved the ambiance. Nice, quaint little place.
Small room on top floor and had to carry our own bags.
Great location for us, just 5 minutes walk from family. Less expensive than other hotels. Good breakfast included.
I couldn't stay for longer.
Snacks on arrival, personable staff who went out of their way to help. Breakfast on the porch the next morning. Really lovely!
I had requested two beds, I thought the carpets were worn and snappy, not "oldand quaint"
The assistant was helpful, the breakfast was goo, it was close to the T
Parking ... it would be nice not to have to pay for parking on top of the room rate. Otherwise, couldn't think of anything! If the room were free, that would be ideal, but.. :)
Warmth, responsiveness of staff. Food quality, variety and quantity was amazing for not being a restaurant! Bed was very comfortable. Staff and guests all were so friendly. Can walk to anything. We liked that it was similar to a B&B, but in a self-serve style... and there was no real forced socialization. People were friendly, but one didn't feel obligated to be social unless desired.
The bed was a little hard & could've used a few more pillows. Breakfast was a little too English for our taste
It was quiet. The coffee was excellent! The towels were large & soft.
Enjoyable atmosphere, comfortable and quiet, and friendly and accommodating staff.
The T was just down the street from the inn and it was very easy to get back and forth from the city. We also appreciated the "early" continental breakfast set out the night before. We came in after a late Red Sox game and had a very early checkout the next morning. We are sorry we couldn't stay for breakfast which looked delicious. We would stay there again and definitely recommend it.
The bed was a full sized bed not a queen, for two people.
Location was great for my purpose. Breakfast was good.
very small room, bed was so-so
old facility charm, tea and snacks available anytime!
Probably a small elevator for luggage or tired older people would be nice, although I understand that it might ruin the esthetic, the old-world charm of the inn.
The atmosphere, the staff, the homey, warm feel, and the fact that you can have a leisurely snack at "tea time" or after a late night out. The Bertram truly feels like a "home away from home."
Great b&b in terms of location, ambiance, and amenities.
The bathroom was small, but I noticed that bathroom size did vary from room to room. It would have been nice to have had something in the tub/shower area to accommodate the bath soap, shampoo, and conditioner. I am not a fan of feather pillows, but I did not ask if there was another choice, so there may have been. My room was at the top of the second floor stairs, so could get a little noisy at times.
The Bertram Inn is a very charming place to stay. The staff was very friendly and courteous. It is in an excellent location (close proximity to a taxi stand and the subway). The robes provided in the rooms are a nice touch. The toiletry items are a good quality. The variety of breakfast items was great and the daily breakfast special was delicious. It was nice that coffee, tea, and snacks were available 24/7. The room was very clean and each decorated with its own charm and personality.
