The hotel was very quaint and clean. Beds were VERY comfortable. We stayed in 2 bedroom junior suite. It would have been fine for a family, but we were two couples. There was no door on 2nd bed, so NO privacy. Also TV got decent reception, but remote did not work & no movie channels available.

Excellent location. Most of the staff were warm and helpful. Lovely small, very clean room with very comfortable bed. All I needed as a solo traveler and just a short walk to the beach, Santa Monica Pier, and restaurants! Tiny parking area.

nicely located nearby Santa Monica beaches. great tile floors. It was very noisy - traffic and revelers all night, then construction and sanitation trucks in the morning. The room was small and cramped; the room door was damaged from what looked like forced entry - this didn't promote a feeling of security. The bathroom hadn't been well cleaned - trash from prior stays had accumulated behind the toilet.

Great location right by Santa Monica Pier. Fun deco in the rooms. The breakfast was just coffee, juice, apples and cake. It was not refilled, so both times we came in there was only 1 roll and 1 cake left.

Name and location All downhill from there. Involuntary eavesdropping all through the night. Breakfast a joke. "Steps to the sand" only for experienced hikers. To paraphrase the Eagles' song: "You can check out, but you should never check in."

the surf design! the laid backness of the hotel.. really close to the beach. the room we had did not have a microwave..... the price of the room was almost as exspensive as a couple of the other " luxuary" hotels. Not worth the price if you compare. but we were still happy :)

it was close to beach and shopping centers, quiet at night, and a cute quaint little place No parking at hotel without paying 36 $ each night. This is inconvenient for elderly, handicap, or physically challenged guest. everything else about stay was good and convenient

most of the front desk staff were brilliant. location is great too breakfast was very bad; failure to replenish when rolls or ham ran out, imagine no cereal for breakfast in America!. it was a tad pricey for what was on offer - 20% less would be about right

The staff is awesome.Actually they all were great!!!! Very friendly and helpful. Location is great!!! Nice choice of different rooms just need to work on the heat situation and the safe issues. Stayed there three seperate times and I would go back again and suggest to others. It was too cold and portable heaters just didnt cut it. Also two different rooms we had issues with the safes not working. One apartment suite had the only bath in one of the bedrooms. Which is fine depending on who???? your staying with.

Location is close to the beaches, Santa Monica Pier and downtown. Rooms facing Ocean Blv are very noisy. Hotel looks like an upgraded motel with a surf style design. Room is like a shoebox, bed in a corner with no side table, tv across the entry door, the shower is extremely small. In my case no hot water and it was freezing cold. The ac unit was dirty it had past its best times. The hotel is overprized due to its location. I stayed the night before at the Mariott next door, $20 more expensive but a different world. If on a budget any Motel 6 offers more comfort. When complaining at checkout about the cold water and heating I was told sorry....happens....and charged $240....Even after complaining in writing I have not received any answer yet.

This hotel is really unique for its mood and style, really surf- oriented! Wonderful if you enjoy life in the open air (surf, promenades, beach, etc.). The hotel is located in Santa Monica minutes away from the beach, the famous Santa Monica Pier (end of Route 66) and the 3rd Street Promenade. The room is realy stylish and nice, perfect to get into the LA mood. Breakfast is served in the reception, no dining hall and no other facilities. It's not really something I disliked, but keep in mind that as I said this is a barebone (yet really cozy) support to enjoy life in the open air in LA! One thing I really didn't like: Wifi is present in all the structure but really slow. This could definitely be improved without taking away nothing from the Hotel's unique mood.

This hotel has a great location for the beach and Santa Monica Pier. It is a very quirky hotel in terms of decoration. The staff were friendly and helpful whenever we needed them. The breakfast was not brilliant but we expected that, and if we had a car I would have been horrified of the cost to park at $36 per night!

Location, location, location was the best thing about the hotel. Son was able to walk right from the hotel straight to the beach and surf a little bit and then enjoyed the entertainment on the pier. Kitchy decorations, such as old movie posters, surfboards and electric guitars on the walls and not sure what they all have in common but it works. The strong smell of pinesol as soon as you open the front door, which after a few hours left me with a headache. The old linens, flat pillows along with the stiff towels in the bathroom and the dingy shower curtain were not a very inviting or welcoming sight. Lady at the front desk smoking old bagels, and warm orange juice for your free continental breakfast, I would recommend you go elsewhere to fill your stomachs. Parking was listed on your website at the cost of $25 and when we were checking out we were then notified that it would cost $36. We then told the lady that it was listed on the website for $25 and she began to argue that they don't list the parking fees on any of their websites. So we grabbed our IPad and showed her and she said that it was suppose to be changed but she would still honor it but would make sure that it was fixed. Also there were three men leaning, smoking, and all seemed to be drunk on our vehicle when we walked out to go to the pier. Would not recommend nor will we return to the "Hotel California."

Great location; over priced for what you got; bed was hard as a rock; too many homeless people and beggars milling around the area.

The ambiance...I'd stay there again. The parking...but because of the location I kind of expected it. It was nice to be able to park at the hotel next door.
