The room wasn't cleaned well, used coffee cups etc..
Enjoyed my stay, great location friendly staff.

A bit pricy!
Easy to get to events at UC Berkeley! Shuttle to events on campus make it easy! Comfortable rooms and great facilities!

Nightmare to drive to the airport because of the traffic. Lobby packed with Mothers' Day revelers. Very pricey.
Staff was very helpful. I've never seen such a helpful, enthusiastic concierge. Desk checker said we had to pay for services we had no time to use. Upon checkout she waived the fee. Very friendly. View from slanted windows toward the Bay were awesome.

Staff was extremely unpleasant. No late checkout allowed. Rooms were below average at best. Rooms were very expensive and NOT worth the high price

Slow service in cafe. Good food but long wait.
Amazing facilities. View of golden gate and bay bridges. Big room. Incredibly helpful staff.

The view of SF.

Needs a new paint job on outside of building, which could be spectacular but is looking a little worn.
Great staff and service. Beautiful property. Perfect location.

Nothing much, it's just not a new hotel, so certain "old-fashioned" things or the smell may be annoying to those who don't like such style
You feel history of this place in everything. Amazing hall and dining rooms, cozy rooms and tennis center, fitness clubs and SPA... you feel like you are a dear guest to the staff. I felt like an old movie star :)

Dinner was just ok - a little too pricey for the quality. Not really worth the USD 30 price per entree (plus 22% for room service). Also we had to pay for resort fee - we did not get to use them because spa closes early on sunday night and opens at 11am the following morning. We were exhausted from our wedding the say before, so we did not use pool either. And also had to pay USD 30 for overnight parking.
We are locals and used the Claremont as our mini-honeymoon - so we did not get to hang up on prices. Great room, great views. Breakfast food was great. Relaxing time.

Everything was good
Quality of the facilities, unique very nice building, great view over San Francisco from the room, good bed

It was cold sitting outside but worth it to me for the ambience. (would have been a plus to have lap robes provided) I had booked a king bed bayview but got a room with 2 queens. While I had a bay view, it was from a recessed room on 2nd floor and I had rooftop view below me, as well as view of the adjacent wings windows. It wasn't bad, just not a grand as I had envisioned. You definitely hear people come and go from their rooms and their conversations when they return to their rooms. But bed was comfortable, I was tired and they eventually got settled in for the night, so I had a great night's sleep.
Getting to be in historic hotel in town that my grandparents and elder relatives were from They would have been teenager when property first opened and my visit was to retrace the memories of my childhood stays with them in their nearby home. Having a view of the bay bridge and stars while dining al fresco was lovely. I liked using the whirlpool and spa as well as the fitness facility on location to take Zumba. There was a very well scheduled group activity program at the club.

I booked a King room and there was no King available when we arrived. It took a 10 minute walk and 2 elevators to get to the room (weird location for guest rooms). The spa and pool ameneties were so far away from our room we would have had to drive to access them.
I met Jimmy Herring, the greatest guitar player in the world. The rooms were spacious and the hotel itself was beautiful.
12 April 2015
Expensive; in the end we paid 60$/night more than what it showed here on the website.. Making the room really not worth it..
Its a Nice hotel; the Paragon bar and the Meritage Restaurant are awesome; the pools are really cool & good.

Ants in my room, no bathtub, tiny room, view of garbage cans

Only thing I didn't like was the long walk (part of it outside, which was quite chilly) to the fitness area. But nothing can be done about that!
The beautiful lobby and public spaces, well-equipped fitness rooms, comfortable guest room, complimentary coffee. A first-class hotel. A great experience!

Amenities in room lacking. No slippers. One bathrobe. Old. Misplaced furniture, lamps and minibar. Far too many people there for meetings and functions giving off a commercial feel to an historic hotel.
Elegant structure celebrating one hundredth year wonderful view of the bay and city.

Food isn't that great
17 March 2015
I could hear the floors creaking above me. Not surprising since it's a wood structure. It was kind of charming in a way, but may bother others.
Great service, location, views, spa. It will be getting an extensive face lift soon, so you may want to enjoy it before that happens. This is a wooden building (100 years old), so it might be noisy during the overhaul.

we had trouble checking in as hotel had mistakenly put our booking down as being for the previous night, and told us we'd be charged as no shows. Luckily, we looked up our original booking.com confirmation and were able to stay on the correct night. The staff graciously upgraded our room, but there were a few fraught minutes when we thought we'd have to pay a higher rate for our stay, and might not get refunded. Luckily it all worked out!
lovely building with history

Room view was very poor overlooked roof

Somewhat of a mystery as to how to get in to the property. Dinner at bar/restaurant was just okay.
Large room nicely appointed.
17 February 2015
A bit dated, and lots of extra charges almost $200 more than what was disclosed. The elevators are old, small and slow so we took the stairs a bit. And the parking is limited when the resturants are full so I spent an inordinate amount of time circling their lots because I refused to pay for valet when I was already being charged $30 per day to have my car at the hotel.
Location location location, also great history and beautiful veiws of the bay, bridges and San Francisco. Room service was excellent and their onsite resturants are awesome! The hotel was very quiet at night! We also went to the spa and had massages with great facilities and courteous staff.
