The staff and the beds
Location was decent
I heard airplanes throughout my stay
the room is big enough, the bed is comfort
it locates on a hill, some staff was not that friendly and professional...sometimes lazy to clean...
The room is of a good size. The free coffee at the lobby in the morning makes a big difference. The service is fair but nothing special.
The staff (Gustavo) was unaware of some of my reservation details, and I HAD TO call Booking to sort this out as the hotel wanted to disadvantage me!
Our first stay at Declan, but not our last! 9 Nov was our 46th Wedding Anniversary! We were treated extremely well by Boyd! We had a 27th floor, corner room! It was a beautiful room with a view of Coranado Bridge and parts of Downtown. The bed and pillows were scrumptious. I had an excellent night's sleep! The room was immaculately clean! The Hotel is beautifully decorated and feels brand new. I highly recommend The Declan!
Everything was A Plus!
Staff was friendly and helpful.
Cosmetic decorative flourishes belie the quality of the underlying facilities which is not really commensurate with the price tag.
Close to restaurants.
Too many elevators. No coffee maker in room. No small fridge in room.
restaurant and bar were nice, although a bit pricey.
There was some problem finding our reservation. I rec'd an invoice but was charged more on my Credit Card, it seemed she had a problem checking us out.
The bar didn't have NFL network so couldn't see the Thursday night football game .had to go out & see the game or go back to my room.
We loved the atmosphere when we first arrived, all of the common areas are gorgeously remolded with modern touches, the view from our room was beautiful as well. The bed and part of the bathroom has been updated, but that was it.
Parking was super expensive, our bags were MIA for an hour after we valeted our car, the staff should all be dressed more than casually, if not in uniform. We had two glasses of wine and the hummus appetizer in the restaurant. We got about maybe a 4oz pour on the wine, which we were taken back by, but no biggie. Then we received the $11 hummus platter and it consisted of maybe 1/4 worth of hummus and one pita cut up and some carrots and celery. no feta, no olives. For $11, i would have expected more. We asked the bartender to get the rest of the accoutrements, and he had to check the menu to see what else came with it before agreeing to get the missed items. Between the lack of customer service and the rooms only being partially updated, it seems like a HUGE missed opportunity for such a nice location, building, view to be so sub-par.
Location Size of room Bar/lounge
No towels in room Mold in shower Room was outdated, compared to the lobby and entrance. No room service
Good for the money Perfect Location
Hotel is Old
I had a great view
Its impossible to park and forget about it. Unless you wanna pay 30 dollars to park in the garage or 37 for valet. Most of the times you're not gonna find parking in the street. For 3 days I was there and there was a huge leak in the hall way that never got fixed.
no safe in the rooms! staff with very dirty and wrinkled outfit 29dollar nightly parking fee!!
Solely the separate sitting area.
Lots of hidden surprise charges at check-in! I booked these people through Booking.com, and neither Declan nor booking.com informed me I would be charged a "forced fee" of $29.00 to park my car in the hotel parking lot, regardless of the fact that I was a paid hotel guest of theirs. Long slow check-in lines due to everyone getting shaked down for more money and in shock. The drinks at their bar are watered down and costly and view is of dirty down town streets, elevators were also down. I will Never return or refer anyone I like.
Very Comfortable and light rooms perfectly located in downtown. Really pleasant. Especially if you plan to join concert of San Diego Symphony Orchestra. The concert hall is in the same building, you can walk there in home shoes :-)
Too high pillows. Person with neck problem should take their own one.
I was able to check in earlier then expected.
I did not like the fact that I called upon my arrival to let the front desk know that the toilet seat was broken in my room and no one ever showed up to address the problem. Further more I called again to address the air conditioner not working properly and again I was ignored because no one ever showed up. Not to sure I will be coming back due to this and that's sad because I love the location of the hotel.
The room size was great! The view was awesome! The value for my money was tremendous.
The parking fee was unexpected
Location is good, the room is super big! and the view is great.
- great location for going to the Gaslamp quarter. It was just a few blocks in walking distance and we didn't have a bad feeling when we walked during the night. - America's best donuts around the corner ;-) - biiiiiiiiiig room. Well, actually it was an apartment. - parking in car park (same building) for 29$ a day. Driving up there was really an interesting journey - trolley station near hotel
- smelled like a smoking room although it was none - the sink was clogged
the pillows and the lobby design
the rooms did not match in design space, and the appliances were old, crt TV for example
broken things in room, spotty internet, cigarette smell in room every time we came back in
The room was spacious, basically a mini suite. The was ample storage. The condition of everything in the room was very high and it had a nice modern feel. There was a microwave. WiFi was included in the price. The bar area was great to sit in and had good music playing.
Gym was basic - free weights, a bench and treadmills/cross-trainers The pool was tiny. It was for sitting around only. No scope for a swim.
"Living area" separated from sleeping/bathroom areas. Nice view from the 27th floor. Comfortable bed. Convenient location for travelers on foot. Free wifi for a single device.
First impression wasn't good; no one helped us get bags out of cab, or told us that we needed to ride the elevator to the 12th floor to the lobby.
Rooms are large, quiet and comfortable. The breakfast was excellent and although it appeared to be understaffed, I was able to order and get my meal quickly. Overall, pretty good value for the price.
Rooms may be large but they definitely need to be updated. AC is old, TV's are as well ( tube style) and the bathrooms need to be modernized.Nothing drastic but they are old.
