The Drake  

The lobby is opulent and very cool, you feel like you stepped back into the 1920'S. Great location, on the north part of Michigan avenue aka the Magnificent Mile, close to all the shops and museums.

The actual rooms are much less impressive than the lobby and hallway: we found ours cramped and not well lit. The washroom is not up to par, E.G. the toilet flush lever needed to get yanked around to work, and the shower/bath had poor temperature regulation. It's actually owned by Hilton, although they give the appearance of being an independent. In general, the place gives the feel of a rundown hotel masquerading as something fancy - for an example, check out the service stairs with the peeling paint. For this price, you can get something much nicer in the same neighbourhood.

Welcoming and very helpful staff especially the concierge staff. We so appreciated the advice from Andrea Behrstock before we arrived and other during our visit.

There was no free WiFi in the room. At the prices of the rooms I would expect this service. We also had very noisy neighbors that could be easily heard through the adjoining wall.

A real classic American type hotel in a big city, and very close to being a luxury hotel; it feels like an institution in the true sense of the word. The Drake really has atmossphere, and the staff is truly friendly.

Difficult to say; I like the place!! Possibly a few minor details that do not matter.

The overall experience was magnificent, the in house shops, albeit over the top pricey restaurants with sub standard portion servings, were outstanding. Very nice ambience.

old-fashioned luxury, nice white comfy bed. Highlight -- when we arrived a bellman, Chris, stopped us on the entry steps and said, "excuse me, we have a policy at the Drake that when we see such a beautiful couple we have to help them!" as he grabbed both our bags. Delightful

We laughed so hard when we opened the curtains and our view was ..the fire escape!! Of course! This cliche was the harbinger for what would be a slightly disappointing visit to Chicago.

Being an old hotel. Rooms are small compared to a modern hotel.

Loved the friendly doormen, waiters, and house keepers. We have stayed at the Drake in the past, and love it's ambiance, and it's location to shopping, and great restaurants.

We had our adult daughter, son-in-law, granddaughter & husband, with us. Our daughter was in room 359. They hardly slept, as the mattress & springs moved, when either one of them moved! They didn't share this with us until the day they checked out.

The main corridors had dishes in them for hours. The corridors had dirt in them that needed vacuuming. The bathrooms tub/ showers needed cleaning and the tub bottom was very odd.

Public rooms ornate and grand, especially Palm Court, which served wonderful tea! Concierge very helpful, and all staff polite and efficient. Great location. Certainly a hotel with history and stature.

Bedrooms a bit tired and in need of redecoration. Room a bit dusty and could have been cleaner

the location is perfect for shopping and city trip.

The hotel has seen better times, but it is still fine just not too luxury anymore.

Spacious room. A room with two queen beds and two bathrooms. Ornate designs.

Table lamps are basic. Power outlets are not conveniently located.

We liked the view from the window: Michigan Avenue and the Lake. Great room overall for the money.

We did not like the dust on some furniture. The bath door was making huge noise while we were opening or closing it. It, definitely needs some adjustment.

The overall atmosphere was traditional luxury Chicago. Very nice lobby and halls. At the heart of Chicago, almost everything can be reached on foot. Nice view of the lake.

The rooms need somehow refurbishment especially closets and doors. The room was a liitle cold.

Extremely poor service from all staff EXCEPT Check OUT desk staff. She was the only true professional.

We left a day early as the stay was a catalog of errors. Firstly we phoned reception to say that the mini bar was warm, their reply was 'oh it doesnt get that cold as there is Red Wine' what about the white wine and Champagne? Next when returning after an evening out, we were greeted by a drunk shouting at us in reception. The staff did nothing to intervene. Finally the following morning when returning from shopping, our car was waiting out the front of the building a day early having been bought out in error, all the staff seemed totally bemused by the situation, to me and my family it was telling us it was tim e to go.

I liked very much the decorum and the idea of sofas in the elevator adding to the relaxing feeling

I loved the family atmosphere, very tranquil despite high traffic. I loved it and it was my first time there. Not at all daunting. Very smooth relaxed atmosphere. Thouroughly enjoyed it.

We had bad service at the bar, waited 10 minutes to get served and that was when I flagged someone down. No one came to check on us and we were waiting to pay bill as we didnt want to miss the xmas parade and again we had to flag someone down for service.
