The hotel was clean, and free of vermin. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful.
The room was so tiny that we felt completely on top of each other when we were in it. It was fine for sleeping, but I would not recommend this hotel if you plan to spend any amount of time in your room.
The room was great the staff was great the sleep was great .the hotel was great couldn't ask for more for the money value . Will def stay there again
It is close to Red and Blue subway lines. Quite and comfortable. The renovation is almost finished, so I was not bothered by the construction noise.
Queen bed room is small indeed and lighting is poor, but it still works well if you need a place to sleep comfortably and take a shower. They don't have any meal options included, but there are many options within a 5 minutes walk.
Location perfect for me, staff friendly at my 11pm check in, even offered me a refrigerator when I asked. Brought ice to my room! Yes, room was small but just fine for my needs; design was smart, coffee maker mattered in the morning.
Look--I knew my room would be small. This is Manhattan: you cant expect rooms for less than $200 to house more than 2 people. Not a problem for me.
Size of room
Friendly staff, no-frills but everything I needed. Clean.
The hotel was in the process of renovating their main floor/lobby area so it was loud, inconvenient at times to walk through and not great to look at.
Though it was small, I found the room comfortable and suitable for my needs. The location is great--just one block away from the subway and there are lots of good restaurants nearby.
Good location Friendly staff
Tiny tiny room Old creaky and small bed Very noisey. Doors bang shut and single glazed windows meant I was constantly woken by road noise and car horns
the staff is very helpful and pleasant the area is nice and quiet
the room is very small!!!
The location was perfect, right in the heart of Chelsea with a two minute walk to the subway. Ten minute walk to the High Line, Meatpacking and Chelsea Market. The hotel had a cute rooftop, and we went up there with a bottle of wine in the evening. Perfect view of the Empire State Building. We first got a room on the second floor, but since this was our honeymoon we asked for a room a bit higher up, away from the traffic, and the staff accommodated us immediately with a room on the 5th floor. Clean room and comfortable bed, and a spacious bathroom. A lot of great breakfast places within 5-10mins.
Tiny room, only room for the bed. Not really about the hotel, but we ordered a car service from the hotel to Newark on our departure day, and we were told that the 85$ included tolls, tips and luggage. First of all the driver didn't know the way to the terminal, second of all he dropped us of at the wrong departure and third of all we had to pay 20$ in tolls. Again, not really about the hotel, but worth knowing.
The location was fine for our needs in a nice neighborhood. The staff welcomed us warmly. The room was small but very adequate for our needs.
The bed was awful. It slopped down in the middle and we were conscious of trying to sleep on each side to avoid bumping into one another. For this reason, we will probably not use this hotel again.
The staff at The Gem were great. Early check in, late check out, no problem. I shall return.
The room felt a bit grotty. Might be time for new carpets. But overall, good value for a great location.
This hotel was a great location, clean and any trouble we had the front desk was more then happy to help. Got moved on the last night to a view of the Empire State Building. Great rooftop terrace with a view and plenty of restaurants close by.
location Staff friendliness
Hotel reception was under construction noisy rooms
The location of the hotel was fine
The room was to small. No view at all from the window, (which could not open.) No soap No tea The hotel was under construction, which was not informed to us prior to our arrivel. Upon arrivel they asked for prepayment of the fee, and then we were informed of which facilities were not in order, due to the pending reconstruction of the hotel.
Great location only 15 mins walk from Empire State
Clean and well located, close to high line, great restaurants, subway at door and safe neigborhood at night. Staff was very supportive and polite. Check-in was nice as we arrived early and they phoned as soon as they could get us a room. In the end they allowed us some late checkout with no extras.
Hotel was under maintenance and had no gym as announced. We carried our gym clothes and shoes for nothing. Room is a little too small, but ok. Remote control and tv are too slow on channel switch. Wifi was sometimes slow and aparently was blocking skype calls.
Nicely situated in Chelsea with a good american new-cuisine style restaurant right below. Staff friendly and helpful. Bathroom fresh and clean, though there was no handpiece for the shower. Wi-fi working to perfection.
There was no light switch by the bed. There also was no bed lamp, so If you wanted to read in bed you had to rise and walk to the door to switch on or off the light. This I found incredibly annoying. The lobby was being refurbed so there was no night-bar or breakfast (October 2014), this ofcourse may turn out for the better when works are finnished. Rooms are quite small. The window was poorly isolated and as a consequence it let in noise from the street and cold air. But there was a.c. to heat up the room.
Location to relative. Shower was nice.
Old carpeting; $250.00 a night for a 10'x10' room. Miniature ironing board; narrow hallways; little/no soundproofing.
It was clean.
The rooms are far too small only one person can walk round the bed at one time! Only suitable for 1/2 days..... Unable to unpack adequately.....then where do you put the case.....without obstructing the door. Extremely disappointed.
Room was 100sq feet, and the bed was terrible. Linens were cheap and fire alarm kept going off.
It was the perfect life location for where we were going for entertainment. Chelsea Market nearby is awesome. The hotel was very clean and staff friendly.
No place to park in front of the hotel to check in and load up to leave. Parking nearby was a safe and fairly close ramp, but was quite expensive, even with the hotel validation stamp.
renovation going on, no mention of that in the website when i booked the room, luckily we stayed only for one night. nyc hotel rooms are small, but this one...it's fine for one but two make it crowded.
Very good location, we did the Highline and Chelsea galleries during the day and a couple of bars in the vicinity late at night. Subway station just a block away, Starbucks and other choices all within one block. The staff was friendly and welcoming. The rooftop at night was wonderful.
Wish they would upgrade their coffeemaker to Nespresso!
