The staff at The Gem were great. Early check in, late check out, no problem. I shall return.
The room felt a bit grotty. Might be time for new carpets. But overall, good value for a great location.
This hotel was a great location, clean and any trouble we had the front desk was more then happy to help. Got moved on the last night to a view of the Empire State Building. Great rooftop terrace with a view and plenty of restaurants close by.
location Staff friendliness
Hotel reception was under construction noisy rooms
The location of the hotel was fine
The room was to small. No view at all from the window, (which could not open.) No soap No tea The hotel was under construction, which was not informed to us prior to our arrivel. Upon arrivel they asked for prepayment of the fee, and then we were informed of which facilities were not in order, due to the pending reconstruction of the hotel.
Great location only 15 mins walk from Empire State
Clean and well located, close to high line, great restaurants, subway at door and safe neigborhood at night. Staff was very supportive and polite. Check-in was nice as we arrived early and they phoned as soon as they could get us a room. In the end they allowed us some late checkout with no extras.
Hotel was under maintenance and had no gym as announced. We carried our gym clothes and shoes for nothing. Room is a little too small, but ok. Remote control and tv are too slow on channel switch. Wifi was sometimes slow and aparently was blocking skype calls.
Nicely situated in Chelsea with a good american new-cuisine style restaurant right below. Staff friendly and helpful. Bathroom fresh and clean, though there was no handpiece for the shower. Wi-fi working to perfection.
There was no light switch by the bed. There also was no bed lamp, so If you wanted to read in bed you had to rise and walk to the door to switch on or off the light. This I found incredibly annoying. The lobby was being refurbed so there was no night-bar or breakfast (October 2014), this ofcourse may turn out for the better when works are finnished. Rooms are quite small. The window was poorly isolated and as a consequence it let in noise from the street and cold air. But there was a.c. to heat up the room.
Location to relative. Shower was nice.
Old carpeting; $250.00 a night for a 10'x10' room. Miniature ironing board; narrow hallways; little/no soundproofing.
It was clean.
The rooms are far too small only one person can walk round the bed at one time! Only suitable for 1/2 days..... Unable to unpack adequately.....then where do you put the case.....without obstructing the door. Extremely disappointed.
Room was 100sq feet, and the bed was terrible. Linens were cheap and fire alarm kept going off.
It was the perfect life location for where we were going for entertainment. Chelsea Market nearby is awesome. The hotel was very clean and staff friendly.
No place to park in front of the hotel to check in and load up to leave. Parking nearby was a safe and fairly close ramp, but was quite expensive, even with the hotel validation stamp.
renovation going on, no mention of that in the website when i booked the room, luckily we stayed only for one night. nyc hotel rooms are small, but this one...it's fine for one but two make it crowded.
Very good location, we did the Highline and Chelsea galleries during the day and a couple of bars in the vicinity late at night. Subway station just a block away, Starbucks and other choices all within one block. The staff was friendly and welcoming. The rooftop at night was wonderful.
Wish they would upgrade their coffeemaker to Nespresso!
Construction going on. No gym.
Good location, friendly staff, comfortable bed, nice rooftop sitting area
No lobby really. They are going to be putting a bar in.
All reception staff were excellent and very helpful and hospitable.
Very small rooms sliding toilet door that doesn't lock Noisy in corridors and doors banging due to maids, creaky old bed.
It he location was great for us,I wanted to be near my daughter. There is also a cute roof terrace we enjoyed.
It was under construction, I was traveling with my 74 year old mother who fell in the lobby because the floor had a whole/uneven part and they had just temporarily covered it with carpet.
Location: beautiful brownstone block, close to High line. Excellent for walking lower Manhattan. Good access to subway system if you don't mind a bit of walking.....and why else go to New York? Small but well appointed room.
Lobby under construction and fitness room unavailable. Not a great disturbance but would have appreciated notification prior to arrival.
The location. the staff. Foragers.
the room, the bathroom. no room to move around. no room in the closet. constant noise. pretty claustrophobic.
Nice people at front desk
Much too small rooms. Rececption area was under construction
the hotel is very comfortable, near to the lively Meatpacking District; metro station is just at few steps from the hotel. Staff is very friendly and kind. The room I had was modern, stylish and clean, maybe only a bit small but for me this is not a problem... Don't forget to go to the 5th floor roof of the hotel where you will see a stunning view on the Empire State Building! If you want, you can also take some food and have your dinner here! I suggest this hotel to everybody
The location and the staff. Great rooftop as well
Room was on the small side. We chose this because of the value which was a good deal
A little on the small side, but perfect for one. Lovely and clean comfortable room at a great price. Loved the roof terrace. The staff were friendly and courteous and very helpful. A great location.
Other guests very noisy, not hotels fault though. I thought my room was rather small, although it was great for me alone.
The GEM is well located in a good neighbourhood. One block away from the metro, with good cafes and deli's nearby so there is always somewhere yummy to eat! The Highline is only a few blocks away (a real hidden gem)!
