The location The staff Comfortable beds Great value Quiet on the top floor (for NYC) Excellent storage for room size
No kettle in room Air conditioning unit very noisy Bathroom fan light very noisy Not really in Soho - in Lower East Side - slightly confusing to find initially
The staff members were all very helpful and friendly. The room was very comfortable and a good size for New York. I would stay here again.
The only negative was that the window in the bedroom did not open.
Great location (safe neighborhood, right on Houston str., Close to many resturants, bars, Little Italy, Chinatown, 3 subway lines). Clean room. Polite and helpfull staff (Antony, thanks for everything!!!). No bedbugs (very important, considering this to be a major problem for most ny hotels). The giant Wholemeal just across the street(the best way to start your day).
The room was too small. The a/c was noisefull and the street noise was just too much (despite the comfortable bed, we just couldn't have a nice undisturbed night's sleep). But after all, considering you are in Manhattan, where everything is very very expensive, I think it was a good value-for-money hotel.
No gym,pc,conections to travel agencies
Great staff, room was a decent size considering NY and the price.
Hotel in a bit of warn condition.
The position. Small rooms but friendly and helpful staff.
Rooms too small
Location - close to subway, bars & whole foods, easy to access both uptown & across to brooklin Staff- helpful & courteous Fridge in room
Small room size Difficult to get stable room temp Microwave in room made loud buzzing noise at rest (easily fixed by removing from socket)
Good room clean bathroom Proximity to metro
The staff was friendly and personable. They were able to direct me to area restaurants and shops.
Although the rooms are small, ours was quiet and the bed was extremely comfortable; easy access to bus and subway; lots of good cafes and restaurants in the area; Whole Foods and CVS Drugstore on the next block.Lots of shopping within walking distance.
no 'do not disturb' signs, so unnecessary wake-ups; no ice machine; no curtains -- only a throwback white plastic pull-down window covering -- so intense morning light; cleaning staff very noisy; room tiny even by NY standards; instead of flexibility on room cleaning time, which 'do not disturb' signs would have made possible, my room was twice not cleaned by 4:00 p.m., after I'd been out for five hours; Houston St. traffic featured sirens at all hours and anti-noise-law-violating honkings often
Very helpful and friendly staff. Hotel's location is perfect for access to East and West Village and SoHo. Nice park on west side of hotel.
Houston Street has heavy traffic and is quite noisy, though hotel's soundproofing is reasonably good.
Location was perfect, very close to the subway station, shops, restaurants. The staff was amiable.
At first we received a terrible room which was under the ground floor. It was shocking. So we had to ask another room on the upper level and finally we got it.
affordable clean great location
noise on streets small rooms paper thin walls
Staff tried hard
The condition of the hotel in general. The basement room I was originally assigned was totally unacceptable......no natural light, the small window was filled in with a very noisy airconditioner.
The GEM Soho is perfectly located for accesss to subways. The neighbourhood has affordable places to eat: traditional deli, NY style pizza, and Middle Eastern. South of Houston St it's a short walk to a great bookstore, coffee and the newspaper, and further on to Chinatown.
close to main metro lines and shopping areas. Surrounded by nice cafes and restaurants
room was small considering the two big beds inside
Very courteous staff, well-equipped clean rooms, SoHo location is next block over from Whole Foods mega-store, excellent air conditioner, good water pressure in shower, convenient in-shower soap & shampoo, fresh towels every day, nice tv, microwave & refrigerator in-room, 'white-noise' machine in alarm clock for rowdy neighbours, linen service on request daily, extra pillows provided, & good soft bed.
Our in-room phone not working, but not an issue; price raised on weekends from daily rate, & charges for in-room safe which was not used,
Dirty Didn't clean the room one day Towels very thin Smelly
Great location, amazingly comfy beds!! Clean and nice decor - small rooms but everywhere in New York is tiny unless you are willing to pay more than $400 per night. Staff were very helpful.
The location was perfect, so close to amazing restaurants, shops. A really fun area to explore. We walked everywhere. The staff at the Gem were so lovely and kind. The room was very clean and looked just like the photos. Fantastic, I highly recommend the GemSoho.
The air quality in the room was very bad (musty) when the air conditioning system was off. The room was noisy due to constructions very close to the hotel. The towels should be changed more often and the reception personnel should do one thing at a time (when we arrived for registration, while doing our paperwork, the person taking care of us was answering calls from other clients).
Great service. Impeccable room. Small but efficient. All good really
Centrally located, lots of subway stops just steps away. Our window looked over a park.
Staff could have been more helpful. They didn't clean our room on our last day.
Broken ice machine. Shower that could only do cold or boiling hot (no joke, dangerous). Outdated looking facilities.
