This hotel on Canal Street boasts rooms with large windows and free Wi-Fi. It is just steps from the N,R and 6 subway stations and a 15 minute walk from Ground Zero.
Score from 645 reviews Good
Friendly stuff (one receptionist is outstanding actually, whereas one other not so great); location excellent to take walks through SoHo, on same road is Katz' Deli, Wholefoods Market, Subway Stations; room was very clean and nicely decorated; price in comparison to other hotels was good but NY in general is just overpriced. Overall experience was just really good.
The beds were comfortable.the wi-fi service was excellent and the staff members were very friendly and helpfull.
Hotel location is not good, the entrance was dirty and the rooms very small with limited space to manouver.bathroomrs especially toilets are not really clean, bit rusty.
Nice staff, handy location for my needs, clean rooms
Lots of street noise; window treatments let in a lot of light, small rooms (i.e. normal for NYC)
Cleanliness was very good. Good value!
Small rooms. However, it is enough to sleep.
Beds were extremely comfortable, space was well planned out
No real lobby area, sort of an unwelcoming entrance and the rooms are very small for the amount you are paying
brilliant location, very quick good connection to subway, shopping (broadway, 5th avenue etc.) possibilities in walking distance, very friendly staff
rooms are very small
Staff were very helpful and friendly
The elevator on street level didn't work for the week I was there. The one in the lobby worked, but I use a cane, and having to use stairs together to the street every day was a challenge.
The location was very good. I loved the street view and enjoyed the sound of the city. The room was super clean and the bed was great too.easy access to the subway.it was just what I was looking for in a good price.
Room was small.
location is good for soho and bowery
tiny rooms Shower temperature not working very noisy very dated, not worth the price at all
Location was fine, close to public transport and "close" to nice places (20-30m walk). Bed was comfortable and wifi worked well. Staff was polite.
Area is noisy (there was also construction around). Not many restaurants, bars, shops, etc, within 5-10 minutes walk. Bedroom is small, decor feels dated, shower was not great. Not very good value for money (I payed around $240 per night).
Location and the free wifi Receptionist was very friendly Room and bathroom was clean
The air-conditioning / heating unit is extremely loud and hard to operate so as not to start up in the middle of the night. My room located on the 1st floor was really affected by street noise.
Near soho, east village etc so decent for exploring that part of the city. Rooms not the worst i've ever stayed in. Internet worked. There was hot water
Poor heating, noisy as on E Houston St, no facilities apart from the rooms. Room was very small. Hotel didn't even have a fork I could borrow...
Good location, friendly helpfull staff, WIFI, coffee machine in room Good value for money
No lobby or restaurant facilities
Staff, bed was so comfy, bathrooms were clean and updated.
Anthony was amazing! I've lived in NY. Value in NY is not the same anywhere else in the US. So don't expect a large room with a hot tub for $250. It's a very small room- great bed, nice window & amazing location. Location is very hip & trendy. Close to Soho, East Village and is actually in the Lower East Side. Close to amazing restaurants. Katz,Mission Chinese, Dirty French, Prune,& Mudd Coffee.
This hotel has Value. In NY you just have to be real about cost. It's expensive to live here. If you want a Large room you'll need to pay $450 a night. It's NY you don't spend time in your room.
When I booked, I chose it because it was supposed to be a 4 str hotel, but it's definitely not. Far from the main subway lines. Terrible reception. No computers. The internet didn't work for 2 days (of 5 I stayed there). The elevator was not working.
Very nice staffs, room cleaness is frequent and very good!
The room is not that big, price is a little bit expensive.
The staff was excellent. True gem of a hotel!
The staff, the room, the shower, the bed, the comforter - everything was great. The room a bit small and expencive but normal for New York. Would defenetly stay there again if it had another location. The staff are totally amazing and incredibly helpful. Absoloutly nothing negative to say about anything at the GEM Hotel except for the location.
The location. Too far from the good stuff.
The position was good. A nice part of New York. Walking distance to nice cafes and bars. Subway close by. Staff were friendly and helpful. Felt safe.
The room was VERY small. The elevator was broken for the 8 days we were there. We were on level 1 so not really a problem for us but an inconvenience for guests on higher floors.
This is a great little hotel - excellent location and super friendly staff who helped me from the moment I called to advise I was checking in late to the moment I checked out. As a single woman you want security and I got that !!
Location, free wifi. Anthony on desk at arrival was very helpful and welcoming.
No central facilities ie no bar or comfortable lounging area if waiting for someone. Room and bathroom very small. Little hanging space. Corridors narrow and dark
Having a window that looked out onto street
Very nice and comfortable bed Good cleaning Nice restaurants in the area Good location close to everything in Manhattan Male receptionist Anthony was great, kind and gave good advise on restaurants and so.
Extremly noisy from the street, had to sleep with earplugs to get a good nights sleep. The bill got quite higher than expected the day of checking out. Due to several taxes, we payed more than 200 dollars more than expected, and the girl receptionist didnt really bother to explain how so. A really bad way to end the trip. We've never experienced this when we have booked with other companys, where we also payed in advance and not on the last day.
I loved the location. being that close to the subway (and a subway line we could figure out fairly easily) and walking distance to so many restaurants and bars was wonderful. also nice to have a whole market right there. The rooms were good. The size was better that what I expected based on past reviews.
I think the staff was hit or miss. Had a couple people who were very helpful, but some that were quite rude (especially the lady working upon our arrival). The noise was sometimes an issue but nothing that I didn't expect being in NYC.
