Location When we arrived they said we had no reservation. Then they found the reservation and gave us a room which turned out to be in the basement. I have never had a basement room in a hotel. I would never return to this hotel.

The location is perfect! Specially if you want to enjoy the best of Soho shops and restaurants/bistros... Walking distante to whats left of Little Italy, the huge Chinatown and Lower East Side life, wich is great...very close to metro stations too, Staff very helpful, specially Anthony who gave me nice tips about good places do eat arround the hotel. The room was cleaned every single day! All the facilities in side working perfectly... microwave, heater, cable tv, wi-fi... I totaly recommend this hostel for those travelling alone, couples, with friends... It was not a problem at all, but for some people might be... the rooms are small - specially the queen beds ones if you travel with more than one luggage - there is no wardrobe. but I could organize my things inside the drawers above the television and the bed box.

The room had a jacuzzi in it, and was generally pretty comfortable. The location is fantastic, next to the bustle of Alphabet City and Little Italy. The room was cold, and the heater was noisy and made the room stuffy. The street was also quite noisy, though this was expectable for the location on Houston St.

This is an excellent boutique hotel. I was pleasantly surprised by the great size of room and fantastic location. The staff were brilliant to deal with and the chamber service was just about the best I've come across. This place was perfect for my needs. The heating/air con system was a little full on for thesize of room.

Great staff, nice bed, clean, excellent location right off of a major subway, local eateries, across the street from a Whole Foods grocery store. I found this location to be superb for going either uptown or downtown but in a less congested neighborhood with less tourists. I would recommend this hotel as a budget travel hotel if you only plan on sleeping here and being up and about the rest of your time in NYC. Bathroom ceiling fan had no cover, air conditioner/heater blows directly on the bed and in the sleeping guests' faces, minimal space for two suitcases and walking room, standup closet was not firmly secured to the wall. Insulation for the ac/heater could also use improvement for drafts and the windows are thin or due to the minimal insulation street was was not subdued well.

It is near the station, and wholefood market is right across. East village is close by so I could hang out in the late night times as well. I was shocked to enter the entrance and all my friends felt the same way. There was a male mannequin dressed up in woman's clothing and it freaked me out. Also the red and pink lighting they have in the lobby is not appropriate for the hotel. It reminded me of some prostitution place. It was nothing like what I saw in Gem hotel's website. I was expecting some clean, nice environment because we paid more than 2000 dollars for our 1 week of stay. One occassion, the room was unclean when we got back to the room. The funny thing, the cleaning lady piled up the new towels on the shelf, which means she did come in and changed the towel and not clean up the rest. I felt unsecure the whole time because I could hear the next room and hallway. The phone was not working, the staff wasn't helping..,I mean it really made our holiday.. It was very dissapointing.

Location Price and very noisy room. Totally I paid more than 300 usd per night!!! I also ordered taxi for the airport and got some kind of limousine which was expensive than regular taxi. I lost my iPhone in that taxi and didn't get back

The hospitality of the staff was excellent. Very helpful. I experienced problems with the shower. It was hard to control the temperature. No breakfast. It could be a little bit cheaper.

Desk clerks were friendly and helpful. And no bed bugs. The room wasn't large enough for two people. The room was only as wide as the queen-sized bed plus 18 inches on either side for a bedside table. At the end of the bed, there was a passage of just 18 inches or 2 feet before the bureau and desk. Not enough for two people to pass. And there was only one chair in the room. Just a bench in the cramped lobby.
