We stayed at the Guest House on April 9-13th 2015 for the French Quarter Festival. When we got there it took us 15 minutes to just to figure out how to drive around the construction and get to the house. The entire area is under construction being that they are replacing under ground pipes that were damaged during hurricane Katrina. When we booked online it stated that this house is only a 10 minute drive into downtown. This may be true if the traffic wasn't always so bad and the area wasn't under so much construction. We opted out of driving because we were not familiar with all the area and didn't want to drive at night, also the day passes for the street cars were only $3. The street car was a three block walk there and back. It took us all the way into downtown, however it took about 1 1/2 hours sometimes 2 because of all the stops it makes and traffic and the amount of people using them for the festival. If you are going to be driving around the city I wouldn't recommend staying here because of the difficulty maneuvering around the construction. If you don't mind walking back and forth for the street car its not a bad at all. The area is very quiet ( when the construction crews finally stop working.)
The house itself is very cozy and nice. We stayed in the King 2 room with one king bed and our own patio. The room was very spacious. It has a direct door into the bathroom, however it is shared. There were no other guest at this time so we had the bathroom to ourselves. The room and house were very clean. There is usually nobody there during the night time so I would suggest bringing everything you think you would need such as toiletry, snacks, towels, etc. and not rely on typical room service.
Wish the jacuzzi tub had enough hot water to fill it. Wish the bed wasn't all springs. My boyfriend was sad that the tv kept shiutting off and on the whole time. Could really watch anything to go to bed to.
I liked having a spacious room
Where do I start? The neighboorhood seemed pretty shady. Car alarms going all night, police sirens and 99% sure I heard gun shots. All areas that I viewed seemed to be in disrepair. Could not secure the door to my room (only lock was a single small chain. no actuall way to lock the door once inside). TV broken, spa tub broken, exposed wiring, tile is moldy and peeling around spa, no way to turn on the shower without getting drenched in cold water, bed mattress wrapped in plastic, door missing door knob, ceiling cracked with gaping holes, missing electrical outlets in the walls, exposed wiring there as well. We were hoping for a charming B&B and basically got a run down house we paid dearly for. We packed out things and got out after only 1 night and went to an actually hotel. Don't make the mistake we did. Dee was able to secure a small refund for the night we didn't stay. But we felt they should really have paid us to stay there, not the other way around. Do yourselves a favor and avoid this place at all costs.
Dee seemed nice. Our car wasn't stolen or vandalized.
nk-you for your hospitality
the bed is really old
Got my money's worth
This property is not in a good location and the entire house is in need of major repairs and maintenance.
We aggreed with the stuff about the shuttle service, but nobody came for me, I waited 2hrs, tried to contact the stuff and finally I got the taxi cab in the airport ($33+tips or $14*number of people if people are 3 or more). Except this, everything was fine.
Location was great: in the middle of a quiet district. There's a few grocery stores around. Good transportation to the center via buses and city car (~45 mins one way). The trip on city car was pretty long, but it was itself like an attraction: the old style tram, opened windows, sceneries of Louisiana... The room was also complected well. They have a kitchen with shared coffee/pancakes, but I didn't use it.
flooding of the bottom floor from a shower being taken upstairs plywood rather than a kitchen floor air conditioner being turned off if we left the room difficult locking doors no staff dirty rooms (bathtub had hair and dirt in it when we arrived)
Kitchen floor had note work in process but no one was working on it. 3 dif. flooring.one being a sheet of plywood. bathroom sink had no vanity top so no place to put your toiletries when showering etc. tub had leaked and floor was weak around tub like it might break thru. air conditioner controls available for everyone to adjust and we were hot and apparently someone else was cold. Bedroom needed a table lamp. Only had ceiling light. Advertised balcony and the furniture was tattered and dirty. Wouldn't set out there. TV reception on some of the stations was snowy and TV very small. One towel and wash cloth each for 5 days. I was a little disappointed. But you get what you pay for.
Dee was friendly. It was close to trolley. The price was good but we had stayed the night before in a Super 8 and the room was wonderful and free breakfast and bathroom was beautiful and right in our room plus we had a king bed and we paid 58.00.
The room was a little stuffy in the morning (it does have air conditioning) but a ceiling fan running on "high" remedied the situation.
The location is 3 blocks from the trolley which costs $1.25, takes you right downtown and runs 24 hours. The kitchen is fully stocked w/coffeemaker (coffee provided), blender, microwave, frig w/freezer and every utensil you can think of (except a wine opener). Waffle/pancake mix is also provided. There is a Robert's grocery store (similar to Whole Foods) 5 blocks away and the staff at The GuestHouse will go above and beyond to accommodate your needs. My sister was in a hospice 2 miles away; I was there for a week by myself (a 63-year-old woman) and I was so thankful for the kindness and attention provided by the staff. It was always a pleasure to come back "home" at the end of the day and I always felt safe and in good hands.
The contact number sent in conf. email was disconnected, as were numbers on door when we arrived. Owner gave us wrong pin code for doors, and never apologized, and there were fleas in the bed. It was terrible.
Even though the location was good, it was still in a seedy part of town. We also had trouble reaching the owner by phone once we arrived due to her number being disconnected. Also, the home wasn't very clean and we encountered several bugs.
The location was great and very close to everything. The home was unique and very old.
Dee was exceptional. She was very knowledgeable on the restaurants and things to do. I look forward to my next stay with her. Thank you Dee.
Not any restaurants in walking distance,
The location is just a short drive to the French Quarter and Canal St. You also park your car on the street in front for free. The house is yours for the term of your stay and is quiet and peaceful.
The bed was way too soft for us, the building has some maintenance issues.
We were able to get use public transport to the Jazz Festival and to the French Quarter...only taxis were to and from airport. Janice (day time staff member) was both helpful and fun! Security at the house was appropriate and easy to use.
I called the number we were given if there were any problems and I got a msg that the mailbox was full. There was only someone in the office when we checked in. Never saw anybody after that. Mattress and pillows were hard as rocks. Weather was cold and room was cold. No staff around to help with that either. Located on very noisy street with Loud traffic.
Walkable to trolley and free parking. Also no one else seemed to be staying there so had place to ourselves. Has all kitchen amenities.
Staff was very kind and considerate as my trip had to be postponed several hours delaying my arrival. She made every effort to accommodate me and when my health problems causing the delay prevented me from arriving until the 2nd day I had booked, they gave me partial credit for the first night I wasn't able to get there. I am very appreciative of that and will stay there again on my next return to the Crescent City for play or work.
The price was certainly right. The staff was friendly and helpful. It was a three block walk to the trolley which only cost $3 a day (including bus use) or about 50 cents if you're a senior. Much better than a cheap motel.
Staff was not on site. Not every room has it's own bathroom. I asked for a blanket for my child and the staff told me that could be a problem because their blankets get stollen a lot. Staff was not even there when we "checked out" which was really that we just left.
our room was at the top of the stairs, carrying luggage up/down.
large room, handy to places we visited. friendly staff.
They are so 'energy conscious' that we couldn't leave one thing on. They asked us to use the same towel all week to save energy. I was so hot in that room that I couldn't sleep. Every time you cut the air on they cut it right back off The shared bathroom was rediculous, mainly because there wasn't a lock and other people just walk right in on you. Our pass key rarely worked. The mattress was so uncomfortable that I woke up with back pain and a headache from the heat. All of the batteries in the remote were dead so you had to get up every time you wanted to change a Chanel I honestly was scared to death and I always felt like they went through our things when we left. I would not recommend this room to anyone and I will not be staying here again.
I liked that we had a balcony Kitchen downstairs
next time we will prob upgrade to a included bath but that was totally my fault- we are party animals and would have enjoyed it more without having to leave room to bathe :)
Dee and her staff were like family away from home....we did stay on the lower level of the home and had to walk a hall to the bath but it was still quite private....It is definetely going to be a place we revisit...We loved it and would positely recommend it to all our friends and family....see you next year maybe sooner!
The room and the sheets were not clean
Away from tourist traps
the linens smelled! the door was not so reliable when locked. TV kept going out. the Jacuzzi did not hold water. Distance was too far from the French quarter.
the room was spacious.
