The Huntington Hotel is a taste of 1920's San Francisco luxury preserved into the modern day. Its standards are impeccable and its wonderful Big 4 piano bar and restaurant (themed for the 4 railroad barons of the Central Pacific Line) establish the refined, well-heeled tone of this special hotel experience. The restaurant itself has a mirrored, dark wood interior with ram's horn sconces and leather seating reminiscent of an English gentleman's club -- yet without any trace of stuffiness. The piano bar area is extremely vibrant at the cocktail hour and the pianist is personable and highly skilled. Though the music filters into the restaurant, it does so in a pleasing way that complements an exquisite meal and quiet conversation. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with over-large marble bathrooms, double sinks and large bath and shower facilities. The pool and spa area are a polished gem of beauty, comfort and tranquility. Housekeeping and turndown service is perfect and the staff are most congenial and remind one that the property was once the most exclusive apartment building on Nob Hill. Having enjoyed this hotel at an unbelievably low online rate, I would definitely consider booking it at full fare in the future. While the rooms are luxurious, they are older and short of outlets for the modern electronics-laden traveler. I counted our available outlets at 6 which was just enough for us, but we did have to search to find the last two behind our desk. I also would mention that a Nob Hill location requires more use of taxis than having one's hotel on Union Square. Nob Hill is a steep hike form both Union Square an Fisherman's Wharf. The hotel accommodates this by having a courtesy car available for trips within a one mile radius.

The hotel has a fascinating history. The staff was gracious. The room was large and clean with a great view. The spa facilities are first class. And the Big Four restaurant offers excellent fare in a quiet and comfortable environment from a more elegant era. Internet service was unavailable during my stay, but I understand it was a temporary problem. Parking is expensive, but no more than at any other hotel on Nob Hill.

The ambiance, location, service overall was exceptional. This will be our home away from home when visiting San Francisco. Everything. Did wish at one point, end of stay, long day that there was better variety in food/room service selection.

Our stay at The Huntington was wonderful from our first glimpse to our final goodbye. The staff was attentive and respectful. Our room was clean and comfortable with a beautiful view of the city. The spa pool and sauna were an added bonus and we enjoyed the luxury after walking the hills around the hotel. Lots of quaint cafe options within walking distance. A beautiful park across the street. We will stay here again!

Unlike many chain hotels this hotel had character and an oldy worldy feeling. We checked in at 9.30a.m and and the room was ready. The room itself(302) was more like a suite and had an excellent view of the cathedral and park across the road. All local transportation is close by an you do need it. Only possible thing against it was if you missed the bus./tram it was a long walk up the hill from Union Square and not suitable for people with walkiing difficulties otherwise I would highly recommend this hotel.

Piano man! In the lounge! Door Men, James The special consideration our first night in changing our room to one more ideally suited to our needs for a more pleasant stay, it was worth the extra charge. Well, seeing the two rooms (that we refused) before we settled on an upgrade-it is obvious that those rooms and most likely others need to be updated.

The location of the hotel is very good. Only one word of caution, if you are a tourist and you are driving to the hotel it is a very bad idea because it is on top of a hill and there is very poor visibility when you drive up. Avoid driving to the hotel.

The location and our particular room: # 603, which we've stayed in twice. Love the spaciousness and the views of the dog park and Grace Cathedral. The in-wall shelves in the bathroom are great - so many old hotels have no storage space in the bathrooms, which I hate. You could use a hook on the interior doors of the bathrooms - there's nowhere to hang a robe or a nightgown. My only real complaint: coffee in the lobby is only available before 7 am! That's a little crazy. I assume someone came up with the idea so more guests would have breakfast in the dining room. Instead - I go to the cathedral and get my coffee at Peet's (at around 8:30). Which I kind of enjoy...

Wonderful atmosphere and exceptional service. The view of the city was incredible and it's in a perfect location -- right in the middle of Nob and Russian Hills and just off of a cable car stop. Chinatown, North Beach (Little Italy) and Downtown are just blocks away. Everyone was very helpful and it was fun to be in such a charming, old- fashioned hotel. Since it's an older hotel the walls are a little thin and things rattle and creak a bit. From our hotel room we could hear the elevator open and close each time, people's conversations in the hallway, and I was kept awake at night by some rattling in the pipes.

The greeting by doorman was rude and cranky. The rooms had 1980's hairdryers. Their was no coffee or complimentary coffee in the morning. The concierge was not very knowledgable. This hotel is a nice building and a great location but it should not be called a luxury hotel because the services are poor. It needs new management.
