We loved everything about it. The look, the location. Our view, our particular room the whole Ambiance. The Staff was very friendly and Accommodating
The room was "Cold" ***Ask for an Extra Blanket!!!
Perfect location and price. Fun Bar and great food at cafe Gitane! Plus nice that you can use bikes from the hotel for free !
Heating could not be turned off which made the room too hot!
Cafe Gitane was a great place to spend time each morning.
Room is very, very, small.
great location, lots of breakfast places and restaurants nearby. the hotel looks nice and has an interesting history. complimentary water bottles 2 per day.
the smell! waiting for the elevator and in it, like death! otherwise a smell of some cleaning liquid everywhere. radiator has its own life (too hot or damn cold). loud noice from night club, no way to get any sleep.
The cuteness of tbis hotel very clean very friendly staff
location style and atmosphere overall concept
heating of the room (too hot) water in the shower (too cold)
- Helpful staff - Very nice neighborhood except it's a 15 min walk to the nearest subway stop (14 St). - Plenty of power outlets in the room - A charming and reasonably priced French restaurant on the first floor - Overall design
- The rooms are really (and I mean really) small. - I only found to bathrooms of the floor, with two toilet stalls and two showers each. One of the mornings, had to stand in line for 15 mins. - My bed was very weirdly shaped, it was more of a trapezoid than a rectangular. Rather uncomfortable.
People were clearly smoking in their rooms
I like the location for the High Line & West Village. The low cost is a teriffc bonus. The staff has always been very pleasant & helpful. They have also managed to do better odor control from? kitchen or garbage.
I booked a room for 2 for extra space; didn't realize it was a bunk bed & I lost space. This visit the mattress was a little lumpy on the edges.
It's very cute.
Everything about it was fine.
THE HOTEL WAS LOVELY. WE LOVED THE CAFE INSIDE THE HOTEL AS WELL AS THE BAR. VERY NICE VIBE AT NIGHT
THERE WAS A SLIGHT ODOR IN THE ELEVATOR AND THE SMELL OF SMOKE IN THE HALL
Nice place in great location, good cafe, free WiFi comfortable clean room. Good!
The cabin was cute. I liked the atmosphere of the Gitane café.
The bathroom was quite a distance from my room. It's fine for an overnight visit, but I don't know how I would have managed with a regular suitcase.
Staff, value, location, ambiance
Cafe Gitane is a total letdown. Bland menu, lazy service and the whole place needs decorating. Loads of nice restaurants nearby
There is so much charm and authentic character to the Jane hotel that I was as excited to stay in and admire in awe I was to hit the awesome neighbourhood it's situated in. Like a mix of the Grand Budapest Hotel and The Shining (in a good way). Every little detail, from the scent in the lobby, the oversized room keys, old-school elevator, to the skull & crossbone 'do not disturb' signs for the doors lends itself to a totally unique, other worldly experience. I tend to stay in business-type hotels when I'm in NY, but never again - I'll be rushing back to The Jane!
The Jane is located in scenic Greenwich Village, close to the subway, close to a grocery store and you can see the Statue of Liberty from the bathroom. The room is small and the bed is small but the price is small too. The staff is super nice and efficient; I only had one problem with my room and it was fixed promptly. If you simply want a clean bed in an inexpensive Hotel this is a great place. I have stayed at the Hostel on Manhattan for the same price and I had no privacy, it was dirty, run-down and I felt like I was staying in a homeless shelter.
There was always a strange smell in the Elevator.
Television didn't work on first day
Great location. Bathrooms were clean and very good (shared) showers.
The cabin rooms were almost unbearably hot. The only way to counteract the always-on heating was to have the air conditioner at full blast, which was noisy and ineffective. The hotel became a party hotel at the weekend, which wasn't a problem in itself but the staff were obviously used to dealing with drunk people as they were quite rude until they realised we were hotel guests, at which point they became pleasant again. The bar is also very expensive ($24 for 2 single Jack & Cokes)
Cheap, easy, and old school. It was super simple and clean. Small and super cozy.
Club downstairs wasn't loud or anything, just the people were extremely rude before and after making my way to the counter. Bed a little short but the room was so fascinatingly quaint I didn't mind at all.
the location is very good and it IS a beautiful bildning and the café gitane served good breakfast.
we had NO idea that The Jane was a populare nightclub on weekend nights. we arrived around midnight and the lobby was croawed with young people partying loudly. the staff maid no effort to welcome us, inform or tell about any facilities. i am not even sure anyone said Welcome. a key was handed to us without telling which floor our room was or where we would find the bathroom and the toilettes... when we came up to the third floor the first sensation was a strong smell of urine as if someboby had peed on the carpet. inside our room the heat must have been tropical. so we spend the night with open windows, by the early morning hours the temperature had gone down below normal and we were freezing... we would not recommend The Jane to anyone over 23:ish...
great vibe and history
I liked the price! Can't beat it!
Hate sharing a bathroom with so many others. Like a dorm.
My room, the lobby. The staff
The heat was strange. I had to use the air conditioner
I loved sitting at the bar in the restaurant after an evening show, talking to the young staff. They told me about the fascinating history of the hotel; the Titanic survivors stayed there. I also loved that though things are a little shabby it seems to be just as it was 100 years ago: original chandeliers, furniture, rooms, etc.
