Staff was helpful and friendly. Good equipment in room (expresso machine, Bose TVs, remote control for lighting. Staff went out of their way to help. My room was incredibly noisy --- street noise from bars/music. Hotel "fitness room" appears to be one bicycle, some yoga mats, and a piece of paper that tells guests where to run/walk outside. If it's raining or late at night, that's not good enough.

The whole hotel is amazing. top notch design, good beds, awesome staff. excelent location, right in the middle of gaslamp. they brought complimentary cookies every day, there is a coffee machine at the room, which is great. the hotel seems designed by pininfarina. Shower don't have a door, and windows are translucid... Can be embarassing if you are with a colleague. anyway, it is great if you are solo or if you are with your wife/girlfriend. when i left at 5h30 AM there was no one at the frontdesk, and they did not answered my call when i called them to the number that was at the door. had to leave a note on their desk with my email address and asking for the bill.. no response yet. I really had to go.. had my flight early in the morning and had a cab already outside waiting. those two are not complaints, just notes so they can improve service. i would recomend this hotel anyway.

Great views. Very comfortable bed. Hotel staff is willing to do practically anything for you. Intimate setting.I recommend The Keating for a weekend getaway for any couple looking to enjoy the city, and enjoy a little sexiness. Property was stolen from my car after I gave it to the valet. It was NOT the staff, but I was unhappy that I paid 40 dollars to have my things stolen. But alas, I was refunded my entire stay, which made things better.

The room was pretty cool looking. The rain shower was nice but no door on the shower meant for a drafty shower and the room got humid too. They had remote control lighting/dimming, that was a nice touch. Comfortable bed/ pillows. No door on the shower/shower was in the room (not recommended for people not traveling as a couple). The phones couldn't dial the desk using the button with a picture of a desk on it (I just started pushing other buttons till I got the desk). There was sand or something in the bed (the lights above the bed didn't have finishing pieces on them and sand or something like it, ended up in the bed). Loud, bring earplugs.

Location was great. Room was uniquely styled and fun with some really interesting touches. I agreed with other reviewers that it's great for a 1 or 2 night stay. Over more nights the room might get a bit uncomfortable. For example, there was no where to put our suitcase.

Beautiful rooms design. Great staff. Best location. Everything is very convinient. Impossible to sleep. Location is great. It because of the old windows - it is practically like sleeping in the middle of the club with people laughing, cars driving by, etc. second night that we were staying at the hotel there was a party at another room and it really rained on our sleep and left a really bad memory about the hotel.

The location was excellent. The design of the hotel is cool. The cookies at the end of the day were a nice touch (and the cookies were quality!). Some reviewers complain about the noise from the club below, but our room was fine and quiet. A friend who was staying in another room said he could hear it faintly. The "gym," which consisted of a recliner bike, a few weights, a fitness ball and yoga mat, was nothing to write home about (I'm not writing home right now!). But that guaranteed you had it to yourself. The hotel doesn't claim to have a proper gym, but perhaps they can think of hooking up with a nearby facility?

Customer service was the best I have ever experienced! The room was clean and the view was amazing. The hotel was in the heart of the Gaslamp San Diego, close to restaurants, bars, clubs and the mall. I would stay at this hotel again. The shower didn't have a door.

Everything! The Staff was amazing! Location was perfect! There were reviews about the noise, and I was nervous, but we did not experience any noise at all!!!! The bed was so comfy, it made it hard to get out. The recommendations from the staff were right on the money! It was a perfect choice for our romantic get away. Thank you for that!!

I loved the unique design. I can not bare to stay in another tope colored hotel room with a comforter that looks like someone vomited a grey tinted rainbow on it. It was such a relief and joy to be in a room with some color, flavor and design! The valet service was very convenient, as the parking in Gas Lamp is a bitch, and the valet staff was more than friendly and helpful. I also heard a few things said about some "green" things the Keating does, which I also liked, like sending the bill via email. The only trouble I had, which I would have liked if I were with a husband or boyfriend, was the shower that doesn't leave very much to the imagination. But very nice for couples, and I loved the shower itself. I also wish the windows were a bit more sound and/or light proof. I am a very light sleeper and I was kept up all night by people on the street, dump trucks, sirens, and so on, which was a bummer. And maybe there were darker shades that came down, but I didn't look very hard. The tv was also slightly confusing and the sound doesn't turn off with the "off" button. That was a bit of a nuisance.

Great location in the Gaslamp Quater next to Hard Rock Cafe & Horton Plaza shopping mall. Room was very trendy/modern with high ceilings and a very comfy bed. The room came fully stocked with snacks/water/booze (all of which is charged to your card if you consume) and a complementary expresso machine. Shower is definitely the best feature of the Deluxe Room (not recommended for colleagues or friends b/c shower partition is see-through). Over sized windows open all the way letting in all the downtown sights, sounds, and smells!!! Elevator is slow and buttons are old so you need to pay attention to which button you push. Also, request a room facing the east (which looks towards 5th Ave) or south (which looks towards f st). We stayed on 4th floor facing west and right outside our window was an a/c unit on the rooftop for the building next door so it was quite noisy with the windows open. It can be noisy late nights thurs-sun because of prime bar/club locations. Hotel is non-smoking so plan on standing in in front of the lobby to enjoy a cigarette if you do smoke because there is no rooftop or balconies.

The personal friendly staff. Couldnt have been more helpful. Especially Cindy. Noise at night. Breakfast issues - we got a $10 voucher for breakfast per room not per person but it advertises as "breakfast included" and this was a bit misleading. We also tried to get breakfast at the Merk at 9:20am on 1/16/12,with the vouchers, and although eventually we had great food it seemed to cause a lot of confusion when we asked for breakfast there.

The staff was very accomodating with what they had to work with. The design was ultra modern with the shower and sinks in the bedroom with absolutely no privacy. There was no door on the shower. The hotel is historic and has not installed any noise abatement elements. The bar below was packed and playing music until after 2 am. If you want to sleep, earplugs are a must! Your other option is to request an "interior" room that is supposedly much smaller.

The staff was very friendly and accomodating. The shower in the bedroom is a terrible plan. There is no privacy. While the toilet is behind a sliding door, there is no fan. This may be avant garde in design, but seriously not comfortable for your patrons of any age. The staff apologized like this was a daily occurance.Speaking of which. . .This may be the nosiest place we have ever tried to sleep in. The bar below sounded like we were at a bull fight! The staff provided ear plugs, but it was useless. Again, the staff was well aware of the problem. The windows are single pane and sleep was hopeless.

The rooms at The Keating are modern, clean and spacious. The hotel is in a fantastic location and you are literally steps from plenty of places to eat, drink or shop. It's very noisy, due to The Keating's close proximity to pubs and clubs you can hear everyone socialising on the streets below well into the early hours of the morning. We were on a higher floor and it felt like they were in our room.

Our room was amazing and the view we would wake up to each morning was astounding. The hotel design is modern and eco-friendly yet the history of the building is accented. I can't imagine staying anywhere else on San Diego now!

From the website, I thought The Keating would be something different, a contemporary hotel and an unusual experience. The hotel starting from the lobby is empty ,cold and red. the building is a historic, beautiful, and classic place and the asthetic of the hotel just doesn't work. The staff was pleasant, but seemed to be alittle incompetant. I understand modern and get the concept of the hotel being modeled after a fararri,( which was pointed out several times)sometimes it was too literal, and frankly just not comfortable. In the deluxe room there was no chair in the room, It would have helped the comfort level immensly. Overall I wanted something different, and I got it, we will not stay again or recommend, just not comfortable. Don't waste your money!!!!

We loved the design and uniqueness of The Keating. Glad there were earplugs, as the street noise level of partiers below was fairly loud at 2am! We loved the high tech room and also all the design features. Pinaferina's design touches were wonderful!!!
