The Keating    

I had stayed a prior night just before at the Grand Hyatt and I found my stay at the Keating to be way beyond expectations. To begin with the staff was incedibly helpful and friendly. Also, the room was very modern and the location was ideal beyond description for anyone looking to experience downtown San Diego. My next stay in San Diego will be at the Keating based on my experience there and it is well deserving of a recomendation to others.

Part of what comes with being in the heart of the action is dealing with bar noise later at night. I'm a 32 year old guy and I know my wife would also be ok with this noise but the noise at night might not be for everyone. Regardless, its worth the location, my recomendation is to utilize the provided free ear plugs and live it up!

The Staff.

room stank of chemical cleaning products & caused asthma attack-room dark, hot & claustrophobic-window to inside courtyard-no air-a/c underneath the bed nearest the window so didn't circulate around the room-this hotel aimed at couples not families-nightstand had a 'lovers intimate' pack-no bathroom-the beds faced the shower cubicle-toilet door didn't close all the way-concrete floor-double basin with huge plastic looking sinks so big hurt my back to lean across to use the faucet-smell was awful in the shower and basin area. Did not look like pics on booking sight. Not suitable for children.

I was upset when I learned that I was still charged for one night stay on Wed 3/20 because of a 'no-show' policy. My flight from Spokane, wa was delayed and I missed the connection in Salt Lake City where I was given a layover by Delta. When I checked in the following day, I showed the evidence, but the hotel staff still charged me for the night I didn't stay. Hope this policy will be modified. Xm

The staff was young, hip, fashionably dressed (it felt like we were in New York City!). But more importantly they were all really nice (unlike New York City). We checked our bags for the day and when we checked in, our bags were already in the room. We've stayed at some nice hotels, and that's never happened. The decor was great.

The noise from the street was a bit much, even late at night. Somethings missing from the 2nd floor area where the laptop lounge is. Its a cool space but no one was ever hanging out there.

We would stay at the Keating again and again. It was a delightful surprise and highly recommend the hotel

Just right below is a ub which play live band, cant sleep well due to loud noise

Great central location for bars, retaurants and sightseeing. Staff were brilliant, very friendly and helpful.

Location & Staff were awesome!

A little pricey considering all the extra fees you ave to pay after you pay the room rate: valet, historical fee, taxes & gratuity. After doing research, I could have stayed at a similar 4-star hotel within a 1-mile radius for much cheaper.

Location was good. Room design and facilities.

Regular price was high( but I got a deal). No free parking ($30/night).

I loved the atmosphere at The Keating and the Decor. It is right across from Horton Plaza so shopping was very convenient. The room was very nice, big, luxurious and modern. Staff was wonderful as well. Location was great.

Parking

Very awesome modern hotel with Italian influences. Plus you get your own espresso maker in your room!

Parking was a bit pricey ($35) at the time. That along with tip, since it was valet parking, brought up closer to $40/night.

Very good location 5th and F street of San Diego around many restaurants and night activities (if you not prefer to sleep until 5 AM because its unbelievably loud whole night long) . Very friendly staff. Nothing else positive I can say about this hotel.

Room design very poor and user unfriendly (Sinks, shower, bathroom). Most important and it very important - they paint floor with paint that smells like you inside some unhealthy chemical manufacture. We opened our windows from first second but smell was so bad that my girlfriend must put wet towel on her face. It looks funny but at the same time sad. I do not know who decided to give this hotel 4 stars. It is absolutely not 4 stars hotel. It is not even 3 stars.If you want to use pool they will send you 2 blocks away to another hotel to use their pool. Are you kidding me?

The Keating is located slap bang in the middle of the Gaslamp District so everything you could so desire from food/drink nightlife/ shopping and even the San Diego Padres Baseball Stadium Petco Park is within immediate to 10 minute walking distance. The staff are also amazing.

As it's located right in the centre of the Gaslamp, be prepared for extreme amounts of noise, this didnt bother me but just be warned. They do provide complimentary earpluggs though.

This is nothing like your usual, regular, dull, same ol spiel type of hotel. The entire staff is unbelievably helpful and courteous! The room is crazy modern and super sexy with a whole bunch of extras! Our room had a mirror up top from the shower =0. The hotel is conveniently located in the heart of Gaslamp sd, on 5th and f street where it is super live on the weekends and right by some of the best restaurants sd has to offer! Some of the negative reviews about this hotel are ridiculous. People not liking the noise? Are you serious folks?! You are in the heart of Gaslamp, what do you expect? Its like saying it was too loud without earmuffs at a gun range, ummm....duhh! The noise did not bother us a bit. I've traveled to New York, Seattle, la, Bay Area California, and live in Las Vegas. This is by far the best Hotel from the room to the staff experience we had! We are definitely coming back and bringing other folks with us. Pictures in the site nor this and any other positive review does justice. Go and experience The Keating Hotel for yourself, you won't regret it!

Nothing whatsoever! Pricing of hotel/room is fair (worth every penny), location is great, this hotel is perfect for groups, love birds/married couples! Not to mention they have promo's where if you book 3 nights with them you get a 4th night free, I don't know of any other hotel around that area offering any type of promos!

the espreso was good and the pent house was very quiet, the noise outside did not affect me which was good. the bed was very comfortable.

the floor was too cold and it took two days before i could get a flipflop to wear. can the floor be ruged ?. the birthroom needs to be tiled and the outer decor which is beutifull could be transfered to the room

Other than the bed/pillows, I would recommend it & would stay there again. The location was great. The amenities were a large plus: coffee, audio/visual & media controls, cool shower, ability to darken the room via the blinds. The earplugs & note on the bed were a great touch. Room service was understanding & the chewy cookies were memorable. The care expressed by the staff was rock solid. As an example, when I was leaving on the 24th, one of the desk staff that morning (male, young, dark hair) went to the corner for 3-4 minutes to flag down a cab for me!

The bed was old & had a dip in it. I had to switch to the other side the next night as my back was in pain. Although the pillows look thick, they compress to a half an inch once in use. If I stay again, I will swing by a walmart to pick up a pillow as it would be cost effective. Very minor issue: as I require complete darkness to go to sleep, I had to throw cloths on the phone LCD & coffee maker LCD as well as place a towel at the bottom of the door (3A) to obtain the degree of low light required.

Style of the room isnt quite what I like.

A fashioning and design hotel in the middle of Gaslamp District, where lounges, bars and discos are located. Rooms are cleaned and comfortable; and the shower is enormous. Moreover, the staff is amazing! Sarah, the receptionist, has been extremely helpful. I tell our story. We booked an accommodation by phone in the Grand Canyon, but we did not receive the e-mail confirmation so we did not remember the name of the hotel that we booked. Sarah and her colleague called all the hotels in the Grand Canyon area and, after contacting around 15-20 different hotels, they found it! They have been so nice!!!!

Everything from the superb customer service to the excellent hotel.

Design - cool and elegant feel in the room. Very modern and different then the typical hotel which makes it exciting.

No coffee creamer

Location was excellent at busy night life area. The staff was very friendly and helpful and did excellent job in helping us out.

However modern the deco was in the rooms I did not expect to stay at bathroom. Part of the money put into the gadgets in the rooms, which did not work as expected, should have been put into damping the noise from street which was very, very loud especially in quite expensive suite thanks to the bar below. It was like sleeping rough but in bed.
