The decor and antique furniture is beautiful, lovely wood work. Only paid 75.00 for the room. Should have known for that cheap it would not be good.
It was sad, this used to be a show place. Our room had curtains that were ripped and hanging off the rod. My husband had to fix the toilet as it would not flush. It has not been maintained at all. Beautiful establishment that has really gone down hill.
......and we were happy. This is not a standard old chain type facility where they have hundreds of locations and everything done the same. It is unique, has character, we didn't feel like we were in a hotel room, the décor provided old world charm.
Had some trouble getting connected but resolved.
Pool and hot tub were decently maintained. The authentic German, Austrian and Bavarian pieces throughout the hotel made for interesting explorations. The atmosphere and furnishings would make for a great spooky movie set.
Brochures and website descriptions were pretty far out of date. However, we did not expect a brand new hotel and that is part of its charm.
the rooms were very big and spacious. the hotel overall i loved the theme and old feeling of it. my husband and i live a couple miles away and he wanted to swim so we rented this room for $50.00 which is a very rare price for this expensive hotel so we figured we would try it. The overall feel was gloomy and dark but i loved all the old pieces in this and the old feel they have.
the front desk man was pretty rude and he made some comments that we didnt think the front desk guy at a hotel should say. we went for the pool, the water was so low that it was a solid 2 inches UNDER the filter holes on the side of then pool. They have two separate saunas and neither of them were working. We think someone got killed in our room (no joke) because there was a HUGE red stain on the carpet and a red stain all over the wall where they had patched the wall up.....we booked a smoking room and they gave us a non smoking room. when we booked on here it clearly says we wont be charged a deposit we get there and they asked for a deposit and would not take it away so naturally that infuriated us as well.
The public spaces were extraordinary - the incredible antiques and artwork were a delight, and unexpected. The breakfast buffet was good. The room was more ordinary, but it was comfortable. It was far more elegant than anyone could expect for the price.
With the roadwork, it was difficult to find the entrance to the hotel. Even with GPS, it took several tries to find the driveway in the dark.
Staff was as helpful as they could be under the circumstances.
1st room..sink had toothpaste & hair. Requested another room. That one....lamp could only be turned on by tightening the bulb. Trash in the desk drawer and the stool wouldn't flush. When I tried to call the front desk, the phone wouldn't work. Dark, dingy rooms. Drawers fell out of dresser. Back of bathroom door was gross. I don't even want to know what was all over it! They gave us a second room to use down the hall and around the corner as a solution to the stool not flushing. Not pleased with this place. Never again!
The whole German Bavarian style hunting lodge was very interesting like we had traveled to another place in time. Staff was very nice and helpful. Bed very comfortable. The buffet we purchased in morning had good variety, everything was hot and tasted delicious and as we sat in the dining area listened to soothing music maybe Mozart. No matter where you looked so many interesting touches. And all for $51. a night. Sounds impossible but we were there. It is an older hotel but it appears they are continuing to update.
Maybe a little more lighting in lobby area.
The pool area was free of screaming kids. In fact the entire hotel was eerily desolate. No surprise considering the overall poor conditions, but it made for a peaceful soak in the spa before bedtime.
This hotel could make a fortune at Halloween if they opened as a haunted hotel and dressed in character. What a trip! From the mortician-like maitre d' to the darkness and deserted hallways, this was an experience I'll not soon forget. Add to that: I was home for a funeral! Uncle Sam, the joke's on me!
Everything, except they didn't offer a breakfast with the room. There was a restaurant to order but we did not go into it, so do not know what they had to buy.
Nothing, room was great.
My daughter's bf's transmission went on a cross country trip. My husband and I continued on out trip and they remained behind for 4 days. The staff at the Lodge treated them like family, they will never forget their kindness.
The bad thing is that the hotel has been sold. It could be so cool if restored but I believe it is going to be demolished. We had dinner in the bar and it was good, friendly service.
I loved the old world charm of The Lodge Hotel. It was a pleasant change from the cookie cutter hotels that are out there.
Charm and character of the hotel
needs refurbishing but I was told it was bought by Hilton and they will be renovating it
The history of The Lodge. It must have been "the Place" in it's day.
Showing it's age. Going to be renovated by DoubleTree, going to lose it's personality.
This hotel is filled with beautiful and historic Bavarian and German elegance and charm. Many of these furnishings were brought over from Germany. It is an experience all in itself.
It was very old fashioned. We were told the owner traveled to other countries collecting old furniture to furnish the rooms. Very unique with a Victorian feeling. The rooms were comfortable. It was an older hotel but was clean. Clean bed, shower, bathroom.
Since it was built in the 70's the entry is a bit difficult to maneuver being on cobblestone. They did open up an area to the right of the door for handicap access and for the luggage carts which helps a lot.
Decor was inspiring, great price for a landmark facility, very private rooms.
Lady at reception was incredibly rude - seemed to want to get back to chatting with her visitor when we checked in and her phone when we checked out. She did not give decent directions to our room, could not find the ice machine, no materials about the TV in our room, did not inform us that there was an additional deposit on our debit card, grounds needed work badly, unclear where to park, restrooms by the pool were scary, trash left all day in the pool area.
Central location with many things to do in a 3 mile radius.
Poor service. The premises were in shambles. I felt like I was in a hotel from a cheesy 80's horror flick. I will look elsewhere next time.
My husband could smoke in the room. The pretty furniture and the pictures on the wall. We were lucky enough to get a low rate of $50.
Loved the antiques in the lobby. Our room was very clean and comfortable. Will definitely be back!
The staff was nice.
This place is like traveling in a time warp. It is old, dated, and feels like you have stumbled into Hotel California, hoping that you'll be allowed to leave. The booking.com directions link with GPS lead us to a field and we were instructed to "walk to our final destination." The roads to the hotel were under construction and were difficult to navigate. The hotel itself is a Germanic reproduction with etchings of Neuschwanstein Castle in the windows, which could be nice, but the place has fallen on hard times. The hallway smelled of marijuana. The carpets are 40 years old and the portrait of a woman in our room had its eyes poked out, lending to an eerie haunted house feel. The bathroom had clean towels, but the vanity and tiles were cracked and stained. The sheets were threadbare and my kids opted to sleep on top of the covers. We left in the am without showers and were happy to get on the road. I understood from the clerk that the building has been sold and will be renovated. I'd skip this place and reconsider after the update.
We picked the hotel because we got the room for $53. We were on vacation and just wanted to save some money and perhaps have a unique experience in what appeared to be "a themed hotel."
When we saw the room, we realized it was only worth about $53. Everything in the room was pretty much worn out and needed to be replaced. The mattress was comfortable, however. (In the interest of full disclosure, we have owned a three-star hotel, so we have a very critical eye.)
Ease of reservation
Room was EXTREMELY outdated. Cords/wires were exposed and/or laying out in plain view; would have asked for another room if I had my child with me. Wallpaper peeling off in bathroom.
People smoking pot in their room as we were walking down the hallway that's all you could smell
cold air conditioning good water pressure/shower
not clean, used toilet paper in bowl; hair on sheets; no bedspread; horrible decorating, i.e., carpet/drapes/bathroom all very old and in much needed upgrading; unfortunately, only hotel available due to Deere Classic golf tourney; will not stay again unless they remodel
Price was right. Staff did everything they said they would and promptly.
Property is pretty run down.
