Quiet area, lots of restaurants, close to subway, short distance to major attractions and theatres. Not as impersonal as big hotel chains, staff remember you from one day to the next.
Restaurant downstairs is expensive, staff not friendly. Our bathroom had no tub or shower recess so shower water went all over the floor, very messy.
We absolutely loved Everything About This Hotel. The Room Was Spacious, The Location Safe And Easily Accessible By Cab Or Subway, The Staff Excellent. The Concierge Was Friendly And Knowledgeable. Restaurants, Shopping, And Drinking Establishments All Within Walking Distance. I Will Choose to Stay Here As Often As Possible.
Building beautiful, and local restraunts and bars a draw as well as being in close proximity to central park.
Did not have tea and coffee facities in the room.
Large comfy bed, kitchenette with microwave and fridge, quiet room, fast elevators, helpful doormen, excellent breakfast at nice matin.
No sink in kitchenette. Breakfast quite expensive.
Small room that smelled like sick person
My husband and I love staying at the Lucerne. We always stay there when we are in NYC. Quiet location away from the buzz of Times Square. Short block to subway. Plenty of good restaurants within a few blocks. Perfect location for parents of students attending Columbia and Barnard. But location aside, the Lucerne has a great staff, always friendly and helpful. They will stow your luggage if you need to check out before you need to head to the airport. Rooms, while not large, are bigger than most NYC hotels. Always clean. Love our stays at the Lucerne.
Flexibility of front desk staff -- changed room from one bed to two at the same price Rooms were nicely furnished and clean and of decent enough size for NYC
No negatives from me . . .
Great location, good room service, nice beds, quiet, good restaurant, friendly staff.
The only negative point is that the windows do not open at all, not an inch. I understand hotel windows do not open fully but to not open at all is terrible. The room was a little stuffy and circulating air-conditioned air was not ideal. It made it a little claustrophobic.
Great location in an interesting part of the city. Family friendly, boutique hotel convenient to Metro. Cozy hotel
Having to go home!
When we complained desk staff were helpful & moved us to a good room Good room size Great shower Clean Friendly staff very helpful
Original room we were given was opposite the ice machine room we had very little sleep that night
The Lucerne is very comfortable and small enough to feel less of an institution than the chain hotels. It is well located for Central Park and the Natural History Museum. The staff are helpful and friendly. We discovered that the subway is handy (just at the bottom of the block on Broadway) and easy to use to get into downtown areas.
The attached restaurant for breakfast is pricey, though nice. (We discovered a nice little cafe on Broadway with a better, cheaper selection). The room service was a bit too early - woke us up at 8.20 one morning :( A bit too far from downtown tourist attractions - really have to plan to be out all day as can't pop back.
Round the corner to many restaurants on Amsterdam. One block to subway.
Room is small.
The staff was helpful specially Kira and Ron. The location is excellent.
The wardrobe cabinet is so small and narrow.A jacket would not fit in. Some of the rooms are smaller than others in the same category? They gave us a small room first and only when we complained the moved us to a larger one with the same price!
The hotel was charming, comfortable, quiet and very clean. It was also conveniently located to the Metro, many excellent restaurants and Central Park. I would definitely stay here again.
Booking.com did not include the extra person cost in the quoted price which was misleading but this is not the hotel's fault. The hotel is not cheap but reasonable for NYC
Great UWS location close to Central Park; residential neighborhood with selection of good restaurants; classic boutique-style; pleasant adjacent restaurant for breakfast (= Nice Matin).
All staff members very hpful and friendly.
Smll room for 4
The location is great. The fitness room is nice.
The TV didn't work, and no one came to check it out when I reported it. The desk chair was very uncomfortable. It would be nice to have a mini refrigerator in the room.
The hotel location is great.Quiet and near to a subway station .All staff hotel was helpful specially Kira from the reception and Ron from the concierge.
The lady from the concierge. She was not nice at all
WARNING-Cockroachs, horrible smell throughout the hotel, no real on-sight 24 hour room service, does NOT provide secure wifi connection for free. My advise is to stay away. We arrived at the hotel around 1:15 am. At around 6:15, we found roaches in our room. I contacted the front desk to ask for a room change, because there were roaches in our room. I was told that there would not be a manager on duty for another two hours. That was the first hmmmmm moment. Then, a non-English speaking housekeeper was sent to my room. I am not at all sure why they sent him. He had no idea what I was saying, nor did he have the authority to change our room. Hmmmmm moment number 2. I immediately called back down to find out what was the purpose of send a non-English speaking housekeeper when we needed a room change because of having roaches in our room. Lo and behold, the person I spoke to claimed to be the manager, who was the most obnoxious, unprofessional individual I have ever encountered. Keep in mind that this is into 55 minutes after my initial call for a room change. This "manager" started yelling at me as if I had done something wrong by complaining about roaches in the room, stating that he had other people who needed to be checked in; and, therefore indicating to me that my situation was not a priority. He was screaming at me with such force, I started screaming back. At that point, he threaten to call the police on me for yelling at him, and told me that I would have to leave the premises. After hanging up, and while in the process of packing, this insane "manager" knocked on my door, and disrespectfully reiterated that he would not tolerate being yelled at, and that he was calling the police. When I asked why he had this attitude with me when it was his establishment that had the roaches, he screamed at the top of his lungs, "GET OUT NOT. I AM CALLING THE POLICE.
The location was perfect for our trip. We were a block from Central Park and the American Museum of Natural History as well as being a block from the subway to go downtown. Perfectly located for some local foods. Hotel was very clean and we received a complimentary upgrade to our bed size upon arriving.
I was surprised that the room did not have a mini-fridge for the price and impression the hotel was conveying (an upscale, modern hotel). Additionally, the temperature control was problematic. One degree change meant you were either freezing with the air on or sweating with the air off. However, these are minute complaints that I can think of. The hotel said there was valet parking and self parking, but there was no clear indication, even after asking, where that was or how much it cost. This is the only complaint that I have of substance: where to park my car after 7 hours of driving!
Excellent location in Upper West Side
Room was small for a family of 4 but it was a hotel in NYC so it should have been expected.
Great location with really good restaurant attached and many more within a short walk. Room not overly large, but very clean with good a/c and shower. Although on business it is a good base for sightseeing around Manhattan.
Room was rather too "chintzy" for my taste.
Room nice and clean, staff friendly and helpful and good location.
A bit expensive. Booking.com doesn't include tax in quoted price. I thought I'd pay $580 & it was really $660.
The location, size and quality of rooms. Friendly helpful staff. Wonderful quiet location, but still within easy reach of all major sights.
A poor, slow and cumbersome wi-fi. I would rather pay for it and get a good speedy service rather than the slow anachronistic present system
