The hotel was good when you are on a budget. Comfortable Staff were helpful Fairly good location for seeing main attactions

The area wasn't the best, I wouldn't feel very safe if I was on my own.

modest but clean and quiet (although next to a busy street), wifi worked well most of a time,

to describe the neighborhood as "unpleasant" is to put it really nicely, no breakfast offered in the morning,

    The room was clean

The hotel was definitely overpriced. There was a strong smell in the room, had to leave the windows open all day to try and get rid of it. Valet parking was really expensive. We had no choice but to use it as there was nowhere to park the car.

Staff was very friendly. Room was large. The shower had good pressure and plenty of hot water. The bed and bedding were comfy and seemed to be clean.

There was a dirty towel left over from the last guest in the bathroom. There was only a soap and a shampoo, and the shampoo was opened. All the towels had at least one hole or worn-through spot. The carpets were dirty. the alarm clock didn't work. This hotel is in the Tenderloin neighborhood, which isn't safe at night, but I knew that when I booked the room It was last-minute business travel, and this was all there was available. Overall, however, at $169 a night, I felt ripped off.

We've stayed at the Monarch numerous times actually and find the hotel to be rather comfortable and affordable for SF. The staff are all very friendly and willing to assist/advise you on any matter.

Location is terrible as it is in the tenderloin which is a high crime area due to the over abundance of homeless. Believe me when I say PAY the parking fee for the hotel or parking structure behind the hotel, if you park on the street you WILL get broken into as we did. Also unless you want to walk 10 blocks to really do anything I don't recommended it for site seeing, but if you're driving then the location isn't necessary bad.

When I arrived they could not find my reservation and I had to book somewhere else. Turns out they had my first and last name switched around in the system. This is poor management, why they were not able to figure that out while I was there is beyond me.

    Walking distance from business district.

    - neighbourhood is swarmed with homeless people; - rooms and hallways really stink - no security measures. - sloppy room service. Couple of times they removed my used soap and did not left a new one.

The staff was helpful. The room was clean. Considering the location it was a quiet atmosphere. The parking people were helpful.

the area was a little run down and the parking was expensive.but the sevice and convince of the location made getting around easy.

Well, let's say it's not cheap cheap, but for a last minute booking while a conference was going on in town, it was the cheapest I could find and it was totally great. I did not have any problems with staff, neither with wi-fi and TV had a great variety of channles, including HBO. The room was clean (the baseline smell was a little award, but I got used to it), the room service was good too. Yoy have to be aware that it's not a 5 stars hotel but it is very good for what you pay for.

I did not like that breakfast wasn't included. I also did not like the smell in the room. I can't describe exactly what it smelled like, but it was not pleasant. But after the first day I got used to it. I also had problems with the neighbours in the room behind mine. The walls are very thin and I could hear them talking all night long. But I have to admitt they were loud, they were listening to heavymetal in high volume and they were aparently drunk. The good thing was that I called the front desk and the night person went to their room to ask them to lower their noise. And that was cool. I did not like the location so much because there are many homeless people around and it's not a "beautiful" part of San Francisco. Specially when it starts to get dark and early in the morning, it's kind of empty.

Apparently the hotel is under recently new management, and they have replaced practically everything. New tub/shower/faucets, ceiling fan, lights, radio w/MP3, very comfortable bed with thick comforter. New flat-screen LGTV w/HD Satellite. Soap and shampoo/conditioner provided. Beautiful lobby/café area w/piano and couches/chairs. Coffee and tea 24 hrs in the lobby. Very helpful staff. Bus stop right across the street, as well as other routes nearby. I spent two nights there, and was very satisfied. Will definitely stay there again.

A $100 deposit was charged to my card, which took a few days to be returned, and limited my spending money while I was there; but I'll be more prepared for that next time.

The hotel had an aged feel to it, in a good way. And it was clean. Close to Civic Center and close to businesses downtown.

The hotel is located in Tenderloin, so if you want to stay away from the urban grit, look for a different part of the city altogether. But then Tenderloin is kinda central in SanFran, no way around that :)

Great location, clean hotel, friendly staff.

Our room was right next to the elevator which is super loud; my friend didn't sleep well because of it.
