You could hear your neighbours everyword they said the people walkin around above you the people walking in the hallway. Shower water pressure very low. Having to pay $45 to park your car per nite I though was unacceptable as for the price of the hotel you would expect to be able to be able to get a park space. Homeless out side across the road and at side road never at all felt safe leaving or entering the place. Most expensive place along with the parking price of the car we have stayed in while holidaying for a month in the us and by far the worst.
Close to the city
The staff were great, always obliging. I liked the convenience and the price. It was a nice safe place to come back to after a long day of sightseeing,
TV was half distorted.
Accommodating when asking to use the microwave in their kitchen.
The neighborhood is sketchy at best, Id' recommend getting a room that doesn't face the front of the hotel if you want a quiet night. There are no safe places to park nearby, so use a taxi or ride-sharing!
Overall this was a good value for the money, the hotel itself is fairly decent. The fixtures and facilities are a bit dated, but everything worked great.
Parking is "Horrible!"
Eddie and Remy made me feel really welcomed and special....thanks
No accompanied food
Staff was very helping, cleanness was good
The elevator is old and scary but it's an old hotel. The value outweighs an old elevator.
The room was actually vey nice.
private clean old style charm
Comfortable, clean bed.
The parking is a nightmare if you have a car. The street parking is confusing due to the street cleaning at specific tines and the car parks are really expensive. San fransisco is easy to get around on foot or using the trams.
The area is a bit dodgy but well located. It's about 10/15min walk to union square and about 40min walk to fisherman's wharf. The hotel / hostel is good for the money there's a sink and fridge in the room and enough toilets and shower s on each floor so you are not stuck queueing. There's no communal area or kitchen so if you are planning on cooking your own meals this isn't possible. There's no lift and reception is up a flight of stairs . There is also a band practice room in the basement which you can hear a dull sound from in the rooms but nothing too bad and it stops around 11pm. Overall I would stay at this hotel again as it was one of the cheapest and it was clean and comfortable.
neighborhood loud outside noises dirty sidewalks small bathrooms
bed comfort price
The only thing we did not like was you can here everyone talking in there rooms through the vents and through the walls very loud when you are trying to sleep
Staff very nice
Seedy part of town Antiquated rooms Few electrical outlets Wifi only worked in lobby
Nice staff Centrally located
One of the nexts rooms had either the TV on all night or had someone there that they were talking to-all night. Could hear them very loudly.
Throws was right next to Japan town and about 20-30 min away (with traffic) to the airport.
They didn't have my reservation. Thanks booking.com
The street hotel is on (greary) street gets full of drunks on the weekend night. That is Saturday night. Walking back or going some where seems really awkward. Carpet seems little dirty so we were careful not to put things on floor first day. There is no parking howevere there is a service garage back of the hotel who charges 20 dollars for 12hours.
IT's 15mins walk from major attractions of SF. Room service (cleaning) was good. It is quite place though we had a ground room floor right next to road.
There was a $50 hold put on my account upon arrival as a deposit in case we trashed the room. There wasn't any warning of that prior to check in and is the priciest deposit I've seen for precaution like that at any hotel I've stayed at.
For the price and convenience of location it was well worth it.
I booked on line for 119 dollars, they charged me 159 per night. Very rude people, people outside are all sex working, they come to hotel and leave. This place have bed bugs, I had to go to emergency room for treatment, develop rush I did not know what it was, thankfully was bed bug Again the worst place to stay, and they will charge you more, than what you book for I will never ever go their again M
Nothing to like about this place, run by family, very rude, when you book once price, next day your card will be charged double no internet, very bad place
This is a beautiful old hotel in a great location, 6 blocks from Union Square. We traveled with a group of 8 friends, 4 rooms with King Beds. The hotel was quiet and the beds were very comfortable. We were on the 6th floor and had a great view of the city! The lobby is an inviting space with nice couches to have coffee in the morning before heading out for your adventure. They were also gracious on moving our check out time an hour up so we could have lunch before we left. Nice little bar caddy corner from the hotel too. $5 cocktails. Good value for location! Highly recommended!
The building noise early in the mornings were annoying when on holidays.
Lovely set up rooms with attention to detail
Location Noisy No breakfast Poor value for money
Close enough to Union Square, yet with all the homeless people hanging around the streets are smelly and messy. Amazing, how close to top hotels and posh shopping streets you find this.
The room and facilities were good value for money.
The room was very small and the hallways have a very old smell to them. I don't think that the room was worth the price but other than that my stay turned out nice.
The Monarch Hotel is a great location for walking to union square. It's not too far from Pier 39 (Fisherman's wharf) or even Pier 33 (Alcatraz cruises). The hotel staff were very nice. The elevator was old but it had an old school feel to it (one of the ones where you had to open a door to get in and the capacity was 5 people). Mel's diner was right up the street plus there were some hidden gems on geary street in the form of restaurants.
No heat, refrigerator or air conditioning...well its an old boiler system that didn't work well. I would still stay here though.
The rooms are cozy, nice flat screen TV and great views.
i started to scratch within minutes of sitting on the bed...the cover had little stains..walked into the room an the smell...no security lock for the door...hated the night there....so what did i like nothing..absolutley nothing
