It was a nice old hotel. The location is awesome, a very nice walk to canery row. It had good bathrooms for such an old hotel.

Nice location. Furnishings! Friendly staff! Happy that the bellman took the bags up 4 flights of stairs.

Please serve bananas or berries for cereal and one hot dish (scrambled eggs). Parking is challenging. Seagulls were noisy all night. Please tell your Mayor and police force they need to clean up downtown. Too many vagrants/drunks harassing people. There was no police patrol/presence. Not enough security.

The rooms and styling were antique which apealed to our tastes. It was like a step back in time and it was so close to everything.

The wifi didn't seem to work for us on the forth floor.

With one exception, the staff was very nice and helpful. The breakfast was adequate (bagels, cereal & coffee), but nothing special. Heavy on carbs, no protein. The hotel is very well located in downtown Monterey. With the exception of the deficiencies identified, the room was comfortable. Lovely antiques/reproductions throughout the hotel and the rooms.

First of all, it's not that the hotel is old (1904) so there is no elevator. It's that there's an elevator they have decided not to fix. They need to fix it. I am a senior and somewhat handicapped. Consequently I was promised a room on the 2nd floor. When I arrived, I was booked in a room on the 4th floor. Even though they moved me to the 3rd floor, and on the 2nd night to the 2nd floor, the stairs were steep, and the flights are long and for me, the stairs were a problem. Looking at the broken elevator on each floor didn't enhance the historical ambiance of the hotel or my experience. They can afford to fix it. There is no refrigerator in the rooms. There is no coffee in the rooms. There could at least be coffee in the lobby area on each floor. Consequently, you must go down the stairs to the breakfast room to get coffee and then carry it back up the stairs. There is no ice except at the front desk. Again, go down to get it and carry it back upstairs. There is no place to purchase soft drinks/water in the hotel. (The tap water tastes terrible.) There is a Walgreens a few doors down the street. There is cable tv in the room but no premium channels and no movies for purchase. The rooms are hot, there is no air conditioning, just a celing fan, and the only way to cool the room down is to open the window. But there are no screens on the windows. If your room is next to the stairs, you will hear people running up and down the stairs all day and evening. All of the foregoing meant it wasn't the relaxing weekend I had planned. I don't recommend this hotel if you are a senior and not extremely agile/mobile.

The old historical atmosphere, yet clean and efficient. The hand carved mirrors and armoires are amazing.

It's a old charming hotel with a great location. The receptionist on the day shift was kind and forthcoming

Very small room, no elevator and no air condition. Breakfast was very poor. WIFi on third floor wasn't working for a full day, whilst I was promised that they would restart the router

The desk staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel was beautiful and immaculate. And the location was ideal for getting to the sights of Monterey.

The breakfast was all carbs, the only protein being some cream cheese for the bagels. And the strong odor of Lysol was problematic. There are many other disinfectants these days that are not toxic and don't smell.

The place had a great feeling. The rooms were clean and private. The hotel is in a nice area with a close walk to the pier. It's a nice walk to cannery road through a bike path.

There is no elevator so be prepared to carry your luggage up several flights of stairs. Also the birds start chirping quite early so if you are a light sleeper, use the ear plugs provided.

    Location

There is no air conditioning so we had to sleep with the windows open. Area noises such as overhead planes, loud seagulls and a nearby building's air conditioner made it hard to sleep.

The location is close to stores, restaurants, etc. The staff is friendly.

They didn't tell us that the street fair would be going on so the street in which you pull up to the hotel, park, and check in, was closed. We found a loading dock, stopped there, crossed through the construction that was going on, and found our way to the front desk. The parking options are not good. $17 overnight valet or public parking. NO elevator! We were first booked on the 4th floor then moved to the 3rd floor because we both had suffered from recent foot injuries. NO air conditioning so to cool down you opened windows and turned on the ceiling fans which is fine but during the day until 8:30pm, the street fair was going on and in the later evening, loud drunk partying people walking around, police yelling, big trucks going by, and those crazy seagulls all night! The water temperature in the shower could not be regulated so you mostly scalded your body. There was construction going on so because of that you had to park in the back street, pull your own luggage, walk across a big landing and down stairs. You could not use the one bell cart because of this. We got up early the next morning and left so I have no idea what breakfast was offered.

    * Victorian style * Comfortable room/bed * Location is convenient for walking right out to bars/restaurants * Free trolley takes you to Cannery Row

    * No elevator. Your legs will begin to feel all those trips up the stairs. This hotel is not good for the elderly or people with disabilities. * No A/C. We kept the windows open at all times (it was hot and sunny) but the noise from the streets and the hundreds of seagulls was very loud.
