I can't say enough of the location. Close to everything...10 minute walk to the Pier and 20 minute walk to Cannery Row. Very clean hotel and reminisce of walking into the early 1900's. Staff was very friendly! If you're single or a couple, this is a place to stay!
The rooms are small but that is to be expected with it being one of the oldest hotels in Monterey.
The hotel is downtown and near the convention center and restaurants.
My main complaint is that I reserved the room at a flat rate per night and when I checked out they charge a premium rate for the weekend. The desk clerk made a lame excuse that the rate quoted was just for the first night and she had no power to change it. I have written to the hotel and hope to get some satisfaction.
Lacation.... 3 blocks from whsrf
Location was great, staff really helpful, ambience wonderful and very comfortable.
Noisy. Continental breakfast left something to be desired.
Staff was most helpful
Small room--no place to sit except the bed.
Excellent location, close to shops and restaurants in downtown Monterey. Continental breakfast is included.
No elevator, my grandma had to climb to the fourth floor. Valet parking only, for extra fee.
This hotel reminds me of many hotels and B&B's in Europe. It's very cute and clean.
The rooms are a bit small, barely big enough for the bed.
Three of us stayed on Thanksgiving Day. The staff was helpful and the room comfortable. We loved the original and restored decor (lovely swan mirror!) The continental breakfast the next morning had everything you'd expect -- bagels, coffee, muffins, yogurt, toast. Perfect for us, we would definitely stay again!
Ear plugs were provided if the street got too noisy, but we didn't have a problem.
Fun to stay in downtown Monterey. Rooms are tiny, but who needs more than a bed and running water when you are in Monterey! This hotel is stumbling distance to Rosines. So when you are chuck full of great Italien food and delicious cake, you just have to drag yourself one block to this hotel.
Don't bring any heavy suitcases unless you have a Sherpa to haul them up the stairs.
I liked the design of the hotel, architectural features from the inside and the outside. The kind staff and the close distance to anywhere important in the city.
The rooms are a bit too-old ... the shower taps were a bit ratchety. And it was difficult to set it to the correct temperature. And the elevator did not exist, and we stayed in the 4th floor... (not critical for us, but just for you to know)
Everything about it I like , we liked the old feel about it ! Very pleasant stay and the location was perfect !
We had our room in the fourth floor , to many stairs ! Because it didn't have a working elevator
Great location. Nice old style
Bed and pillows too soft No flat screen tv
It's a beautiful Victorian building, a nice five-minute walk from Old Fisherman's Wharf. We liked the cleanliness of the room and the hand-carved furnishing. It's a romantic place to stay at.
On the first night there was huge noise from the floor above us - as though someone was jumping and throwing bags. It was quiet on the second night though. The breakfast was the worst we had ever seen. The hotel can only benefit if they give up on offering any breakfast. On the second morning we went straight to the crêperie at the Old Fisherman's Wharf.
great location good basic breakfast buffet
poor wifi coverage on 2nd floor. noise from other rooms very noticeable.
Great location, large room, historic atmosphere.
Because it is an historic hotel, no soundproofing from street noise. They did provide earplugs!
it's a great location. we arrived as their was a farmers market taking place (Tuesday 3-7pm), so was nice to experience it. From the hotel, everything (coastal trail and fisherswharf) is within 5-10mins walk. it's only a small town. Basic breakfast is included in the fee.
there's no sound proofing and the room sizes are very cosy! And there's no lift, so there's plenty of stairs to climb!
Excellent location. Great staff. Nice breakfast, thank you for the free newspaper and good comfort.
A little noisy from people in the hall. But after 9:30 they were quiet for the entire evening.
The staff was extremely polite, friendly, and helpful. We got a front room with the street view, it was perfect. Love the hotel Victorian interior and exterior design.
The room was quite small, we we expected that from an old building. The toilet didn't stop flushing a few times, but it's better than not flushing at all. Breakfast was poor in a room with no windows.
Historic charm, walking distance to wharf, close to wonderful restaurants and late night drinks.
Saw a couple of unfavorable reviews on yellow pages regarding noise levels; called to inquire. Was told we had a Jr. suite with city views. Our view were of the side of the building next door and some type of 'roof-type corridor'. Disappointed!! While no noise from the street, heard water through pipes every time our hotel used their restroom/shower.
the overall feel of the hotel, the staff, cleanliness and it was very comfortable. Love the "old" style. It is a great location for the younger crowd - nightlife. Everything "to do" is nearby - Driving or biking distance. Eateries and some shopping in walking distance.
No elevator. After walking around all day sightseeing the flights of stairs were sometimes very hard
I liked the historical aspect of the hotel.
The only thing I didn't like was that below our window was some sort of machine that would run off and on throughout the night.
Everything was flawless cause she was there. Every hour felt like a minute. Every minute felt like honeymoon. Simply because we were together.
It was our little world. But time didn't stop there.
Dated hotel central to Monterey old town. Good for old town & harbour. Cheap (for good reasons)
Distant from Cannery Row, where most of the tourism seems to have settled. NO PARKING!!!! Very small room - unable to open door without it hitting bed. No room safe. Staff indifferent at check-in/out - no life or charm evident whatsoever No elevator available, although there appeared to be one fitted with a chair in front of it! Very poor breakfast in a windowless and poorly decorated room.
The location was close to attractions I wanted to see. The staff was very polite and helpful.
No parking on campus. No elevator for disabled
