Convenietnly located and excellent value for the rooms It was under construction in the public areas and the lobby, restaurant and bar were not available. This should have been disclosed in advance. |

Very nice rooms right in the middle of the city! Well, it was inconvenient that the restaurants were closed, although room service was prompt but expensive! |

Good clean room, comfortable bed, excellent friendly staff They are renovatng at the moment so there is no foyer, no bar, no common area and no restaurant. This is not mentioned on booking.com. When you book they send you an email to tell you about the restaurant but nothing else. The say they have full room service for food but when you get there they charge $3 extra plus tax per person for each meal. I would not recommend staying here until renovations finished. |

The bathrooms were great. Comfortable bed. Nice workout room. based on the below comments we could recommend it in the future but right now they have some problems that they were not willing to acknowledge. We talked with the desk clerk about our issues and she said she would call us after she did some checking. We have yet to hear back from her. We think it would be okay in the future but the lobby / dining room is under construction and the heating / cooling system is out of whack. Our room was so hot the entire stay that we needed to keep a window open, run a fan and prop the door to the hallway open in order to cool it down. Obviously we could not prop the door while we were sleeping so even with the fan and window we cooked during the night. |

room very silent and beds extremely confortable. My room had a direct view on the empire state building. In my view, the hotel has the best location to visit New York. We did every thing by walking. Free wifi in the hotel and rooms. the bathroom could be cleaned up better. Renovation in the hotel but did not botheredus at all. |

Comfortable room, beautiful view, great bed. Roomy, not too noisy, very friendly staff. Lobby and restaurant still under remodel, so limited use of facilities. Also, the weather turned warm and the hotel had switched off air conditioning and switched on heat for the winter. Apparently there is no way to switch it back. We were there Halloween weekend and had warm weather. |

The room was nicely done and comfortable and the location was very good. The king non-smoking room I reserved was not available upon check-in and it was uncomfortable getting the situation rectified. Also, the lobby, bar and restaurant were all under renovation and unavailable. |

Fantastic location, 2 min away from Grand Central Station. The hotel was undergoing building works during my stay which should be finished in two months. If they keep the price what it is now, I would come back over and over again. |

The staff was very well trained. Room service was right on time. The location was great. I would stay here again. The lobby was being renovated which I was made aware of before I booked. This is why I gave a low rating for facilites. |

The fact that they renovated the lobby during my stay did not affect me in the room at all. The place has 40 floors... A doorman guided me into a taxi that was waiting by the roadside, not wanting to have me take the next cab waiting in line. This was obviously a friend of his that was waiting to shark a customer. When I arrived at the airport mysteriously all my credit cards did not work in the taxi because of "poor reception" so he could only take cash. I had to leave my luggage in the taxi and run into the airport to get cash. Equally mysterious he could not produce other than a home made receipt. This delayed me at least 15 minutes at the aiport and was very unpleasant. The Helmsley should not be allowing this sort of dealings to be carried out by their doormen. I will be happy to provide a description of the guy if asked to by the hotel. |

Fantastic midtown location for sightseeing, shopping, exploring - all the usual things you do in Manhatten. The room and bathroom were warm and clean and the beds particularly comfortable. We had a great view of the city from our room on the 23rd floor but, on the downside, we were sometimes woken during the night with noise from the streets but, hey, this is New York!! The staff were always very friendly and courteous. The hotel was undergoing a complete refurbishment of its restaurant and bar so there was much disruption on the ground floor. However, they had made great efforts to assist guests by 'beefing up' the room service menu and offering help to obtain carry out food if you wanted it. |

the location is great but the price is high for what you get. On the other hand we looked at other hotels in NYC and realized it is just an expensive city |

The location of the hotel is excellent! Less than two blocks from coffee/breakfast shops and approximately 10 minute walk to Times Square. The hotel itself was undergoing renovations but the staff were very friendly and helpful and the room itself was very good. The bed was AWESOME...very comfortable! Staff were very helpful in getting our bags to our room. Complimentary Internet was very useful for planning our day trips. Parking is available ($50/night). I would have like to have had a coffee maker but there was a coffee shop (Starbucks) 2 minutes down the street so it wasn't so bad. |

the hotel was under construction. The "renovated rooms had peeling wallpaper and lamps that didn't work. Not much to say for this hotel. |

This is our second trip to New York and our second stay at the Helmsley, we really love the central location and enjoy the very warm welcome by the hotel staff The on-going refurbishment of the reception area did take away the usual first impression when entering the building. |

I liked the location and the concierge service, though the accuracy of the advice given was uneven. I liked the room and its view of the Chrysler building and the New York skyline. They did not service my room every day, even after being notified of the fact two times in the same day. They were in the throes of construction, but did not disclose this prior to my visit. There was no restaurant connected with the hotel or adjacent to it. |
