The room was nicely done and comfortable and the location was very good. The king non-smoking room I reserved was not available upon check-in and it was uncomfortable getting the situation rectified. Also, the lobby, bar and restaurant were all under renovation and unavailable. |

Fantastic location, 2 min away from Grand Central Station. The hotel was undergoing building works during my stay which should be finished in two months. If they keep the price what it is now, I would come back over and over again. |

The staff was very well trained. Room service was right on time. The location was great. I would stay here again. The lobby was being renovated which I was made aware of before I booked. This is why I gave a low rating for facilites. |

The fact that they renovated the lobby during my stay did not affect me in the room at all. The place has 40 floors... A doorman guided me into a taxi that was waiting by the roadside, not wanting to have me take the next cab waiting in line. This was obviously a friend of his that was waiting to shark a customer. When I arrived at the airport mysteriously all my credit cards did not work in the taxi because of "poor reception" so he could only take cash. I had to leave my luggage in the taxi and run into the airport to get cash. Equally mysterious he could not produce other than a home made receipt. This delayed me at least 15 minutes at the aiport and was very unpleasant. The Helmsley should not be allowing this sort of dealings to be carried out by their doormen. I will be happy to provide a description of the guy if asked to by the hotel. |

Fantastic midtown location for sightseeing, shopping, exploring - all the usual things you do in Manhatten. The room and bathroom were warm and clean and the beds particularly comfortable. We had a great view of the city from our room on the 23rd floor but, on the downside, we were sometimes woken during the night with noise from the streets but, hey, this is New York!! The staff were always very friendly and courteous. The hotel was undergoing a complete refurbishment of its restaurant and bar so there was much disruption on the ground floor. However, they had made great efforts to assist guests by 'beefing up' the room service menu and offering help to obtain carry out food if you wanted it. |

the location is great but the price is high for what you get. On the other hand we looked at other hotels in NYC and realized it is just an expensive city |

The location of the hotel is excellent! Less than two blocks from coffee/breakfast shops and approximately 10 minute walk to Times Square. The hotel itself was undergoing renovations but the staff were very friendly and helpful and the room itself was very good. The bed was AWESOME...very comfortable! Staff were very helpful in getting our bags to our room. Complimentary Internet was very useful for planning our day trips. Parking is available ($50/night). I would have like to have had a coffee maker but there was a coffee shop (Starbucks) 2 minutes down the street so it wasn't so bad. |

the hotel was under construction. The "renovated rooms had peeling wallpaper and lamps that didn't work. Not much to say for this hotel. |

This is our second trip to New York and our second stay at the Helmsley, we really love the central location and enjoy the very warm welcome by the hotel staff The on-going refurbishment of the reception area did take away the usual first impression when entering the building. |

I liked the location and the concierge service, though the accuracy of the advice given was uneven. I liked the room and its view of the Chrysler building and the New York skyline. They did not service my room every day, even after being notified of the fact two times in the same day. They were in the throes of construction, but did not disclose this prior to my visit. There was no restaurant connected with the hotel or adjacent to it. |

I was disappointed to find the entire lobby under heavy reconstruction. Very unpleasant sight. Your web site speaks of "redecoration" and shows pictures of how it will look, not certainly how it looks now. Very disappointing, also because I had invited friends to stay with me. You have to be honest, also when in difficult situations. |

location undergoing renovations so no lobby, restaurant or facilities during stay. I'm sure it will be great once complete but would not have selected if it had been clear that this was the case |

The location of the hotel is exactly where we needed it to be, it was walking distance from Grand Central Station, Central Park and the Empire State building. The bathroom was spacious and the bed was very comfortable and we had a great city view. The hotel was under construction, so there was no lobby emmenities for us to enjoy like a restaurant and a bar, but there was a deli right next door to our hotel called Pax that had everything from home made omelots to soups and salads. |
