Beautiful house, old fashion, perfect!
There is the electronic lock on the mean door, and there is the manual lock, too. If someone close the manual lock from inside, it is not possible to get inside to house and there is no reception, no emergency phone number, nothing..
House looks nice.
Booked for 3 nights and when we arrived the manager had forgotten our reservation and didn't care that we had no place to stay and no place for our luggage. She basically acted like it was our fault that we didn't have a room and that we were inconveniencing her. She made us wait in the lobby with our luggage for hours because she didn't have a room ready and no where to put our things. For the first night she settled on giving us a random room that wasn't what we paid for and told us we had to be out of it the next morning. The next morning after kicking us out of the room, she still didn't have a room for us or and told us to keep our luggage out on the floor in the main room with no one to watch it and just go about our day. I asked her what the point of paying almost $200 a day was if all I was getting was unprotected luggage storage. She pretended to not understand why I was upset about not having a room to stay or a place to put my things 2 days in a row. Eventually my complaints forced her to offer us a refund.
Everything was amazing, the staff was very friendly and our stay was very comfortable. Staying in this house made our stop in NY different and more special. A unique place.
The finishing of the suite toilet could be improved.
good location, clean, interesting, but very spooky old hotel. Would be great to film a "haunted house" movie here. Lots of old paintings on the walls that appear to be watching you!! I would recommend but only to someone who is arriving during regular business hours. Be flexible and do not expect the room that you booked to be available. Reasonable value for money.
The hotel did not have our reservation. We warned Felicia, the owner, that we would arrive late. In fact, we warned her and booking.com several times via email and phone (including the morning we arrived with a voicemail). Despite this, the hotel was not open and we had to knock for over 10 minutes without a response. The we called and let it ring for a long time. Finally, Felicia answered in a confused/sleepy state. After awhile, she opened the door with an annoyed/surpised look on her face, saying that she was not expecting a family of four. I showed her our booking.com reservation. She just shrugged and said that she didn't have a en-suite family room for us (the room we booked). All she had was 2 separate rooms, with a bathroom shared with other guests. We weren't impressed. No apologies, no discount. But what choice did we have?? We then had to carry our bags up four floors. She even charged us USD 100.00 for a late check-out the next day, although she was much more polite the next morning. I normally have problem with paying for a late check-out, but under the circumstances of our messed up reservation, I did expect a bit more of a break... I probably wouldn't go back.
To many stairs to bathroom. No table that could be used if you wanted to bring dinner back to guest house! Online pictured as two rooms with living room in between.

Really good quality rooms, comfy bed, plenty of space. Shared bathroom was very well maintained, and I rarely felt that it was "shared".
The Wifi, although fast, was very hard to connect to in my room; I may have been pretty far from the router, but it was a little bit annoying.
the guesthouse had a wonderful character to it with lovely decoration. The lady who met me was welcoming and informative. They could not have done more for their guests

The shower wasn't working, which I had to find out myself while standing under it. Upon asking the tenant about it there was neither an apology nor was there any compensation.
I liked the Patio and the furniture of the rooms.

This is a great place, hosted by a wonderfull host, who. Unbelievable furniture, luxurios breakfast, individually made, close to 2 main subway lines. Next time again in Harlem, with my wife and family in this beautiful little hotel. THANK YOU; FELICIA!

I loved the history of the building and the architecture. The ambiance was nice and the wait staff was the best, Nelly treated us like family.
The owner Felicia was hot and cold. We could not get a hold of her for more than 1/2 hour at 11:00pm when we arrived despite the advance notice of a late check in. When we did get a hold of her she seemed annoyed that we couldn't find the door key pad to get in. It was our first time in NY almost pitch black dark. Would have been helpful if the directions were emailed to us prior to our visit which would have benefited both parties. Felicia put us in two separate rooms when we PAID for the Emory suite the first night which I didn't get reimbursed for. While we were out for the day they moved all our stuff to the suite but left some clothes and a phone charger in the other rooms. When we finally were able to go to the other room to retrieve our items she acted like it was our fault we left it their. We seen her maybe 2 times since we were there and half the time she was somewhat rude. But maybe that part is just NY lifestyle I don't know, I'm from Cali. Despite all this I would love to stay there again hopefully next time I get professional hospitality from the owner.

It is uniquely designed. Great for a relaxing quiet stay. The food there is also great especially the breakfast.
It is not easy to locate the hotel since there is no clear board or sign on the building.
The interior of the house was beautiful...and had a lot of history to it by its previous owners.
The bathroom was on another floor. I had paid for a queen suite and got a smaller room. The breakfast was fair....

The breakfast is in fact in a traditional way regardless of its high charge. The whole guest house fills in a rotten smell and the manager intends to use too much perfume to cover the inherent smell. And there is no boiler or consistent hot water for shower.
A notice requests tips... And the perfume in the room is really too strong to make me fall asleep. Cannot have a consistent hot shower there.
It is very rare to live in normal budget hotels/guesthouses in such a style. Combination of real and new a'la old styl accessories was nice. I liked it. Good sleep, mattress. We didn't wait but get complimentory breakfest, it was good and staff was really nice. And there is coffe/tea making possibilites in room, unseen in other hotels samples of deogels, lotions, etc. Really nice!
Piano in room is not usable.
It has an 'interesting' decor which some people might like and is good value for money for New York but I guess that's what you'd expect for Harlem.
The manager of this hotel is incredibly rude and has no manners at all. She almost didn't let us in because our plane had been delayed, which made an already stressful situation unbearable. She kept putting the phone down on me and telling me to phone booking.com because she 'doesn't deal directly with customers' ! I don't understand why she does customer facing work if she dislikes dealing with people so much. Ridiculous. Also the hotel is filled to the brim with ornaments that are precariously placed. During my stay, next to my bed and suitcase, a picture placed on a wobbly cupboard fell down and hit two vases to the floor, smashing them. I tried to clean it then cut my hand. Then I told the manager who did not clean it immediately and didn't do anything about the fact that my hand was bleeding, I don't think she cared to be honest. No apologies, no help, nothing. So unprofessional! I couldn't get dressed to go down to breakfast because of all the smashed glass. Appalling and a risk to health and safety! If I were a family, I wouldn't bring your children here, it would be dangerous for them. It's a shame because it could be a great hotel if it weren't for the manager. Personally I found the decor over the top and made to look expensive when really it's quite cheap and fake. Couldn't wait to get out of there! The manager creates a really weird atmosphere. Kinda spooky and unfriendly.

Felicia is very approachable and helpful. Breakfast is delicious and freshly made. Good restaurants close to guesthouse. The beds are the most comfortable I've ever slept in. Enjoyed our stay and will return.
