Diner next door Friendly cooperative staff
Slow wifi Overcrowded breakfast with minimal choice.
Location and excellent food at Mel's Diner next door. If you like 50's style charm, long, narrow hallways, simple amenities for reasonable cost, this is your place. Good location, not in center of hustle and bustle, makes for easier travel.
Staff were not too friendly or helpful. Parking was limited and expensive. Bed was uncomfortable. No refrigerator in room.
The location isn't great, but if you want to walk about a mile, there are some good restaurants. The staff was friendly and helpful. It's pretty cheap. It was alright, overall.
The hotel is across the corner from a major construction project, making it very loud. I was awoken every day around 5:30. The sink was broken when I arrive (which was promptly fixed), and the bike and treadmill were both faulty.
The hotel was clean & our room was large which was fantastic for us as we were 4 adults sharing.I had asked for a quiet room & that was what we had.The complimentary breakfast was good, fruit, yogurts, boiled eggs, toast, bagels, jam & they seem to top up regularly. The location was good bus stop outside hotel. The diner has great burgers & soup!! Area felt safe even when we walked into the square.
Expensive to park the car, but this was partly remedied by parking at a garage nearby.
Location, breakfast, nice staff
It smelled musty. Old carpet in a damp place is not a good choice. The room smelled really bad, so did our clothes after one night in this hotel that desperately needs a renovation.
Price an noisy room
Love the sweetp
Rough area, hotel is now run down... Needs a major face lift! Breakfast was very poor.
Reasonably close to attractions in Chicago, barber shop downstairs is fantastic.
No fridge, no real water pressure in shower, small bathroom.
Wi-fi speed is very slow.
The hotel staff was very friendly.
Fist morning on our stay, I woke up with little red itchy scars on my legs and arms. I didn't take them into consideration because I thought I was bitten by mosquitoes. The next day the scars got worse and they were itchier. Then I thought they were allergies caused by the different food we tried in San Francisco. However, when I come back home I learned from a doctor that those scars were bed bug bites. I was very scared because they might have traveled back home with me. I asked for a bed bug detection and now my house is being disinfected. Opal is my worst hotel experience. The bed sheets and towels were not clean and they were smelly. Although the hotel room was spacious the window was looking at the dark area between the blocks so the room was very dark. The breakfast was very plain. The neighborhood is dangerous because it is in the border of Tenderloin area.
- Great location, close to Fishermans W, close to Union Square (under 60min walk) - Good wifi - Brad at the reception is an awesome guy
- the neighborhood is not the best, lots of homeless people - staff is uninterested except for Brad he's just awesome! - breakfast is a joke (paper plates, plastic cups, everyday the same food)
bad location bad staffs bad Clearness Bad comfort Bad in Every Things
Very good hotel in a nice part of San Francisco. Everything was of a very good standard.
Breakfast could have had more choice.
I had my room ready and clean from the first day. Nice staff.
Old hotel, poor breakfast.
Parking availability and cst
Service very accurate
Noises coming from the adjacent room, isolation not too good
The European feel of the hotel was enjoyable. Breakfast time is a bustling time with cheerful and friendly staff abound. The Opal is located in a convenient location, close to all transportation. We REALLY enjoyed our stay.
Breakfast could have more variety of items such as cereals and cheeses.
Great customer service, nice facilities, central location
My only complaint is that at check-out, I asked the desk attendant to call me a cab and he apparently just called a buddy with a car. The driver then ripped me off once he dropped me off at the airport, charging $15 more than the legal taxi did taking me to the hotel...and he didn't have any change. I would've refused the ride but I had little time to spare.
Location, affordable, easy to get around with public transportation
A little to close to tenderloin area
The bed was clean and comfortable, the staff were helpful. Easy access to public transportation. Good value for the money
the area was a little rough
The staff were very helpful especially Sergio!
A comfortable older style Hotel.
I felt unsafe in the area surrounding the Hotel.
The room (2-queen) was very large, with a walk-in closet and a sitting area. It would have been comfortable to stay for several nights, even with a group of four in the room.
The vending machine didn't work and I lost $2.
Never had so little for my money. The carpets will old and dirty. The smell was terrible. There were very few amneties in the room. No coffee maker, no refrigerater, no security box. Decoration was old and unattractive. The breakfast was terrible. No whole wheat bread or bagels. Only the flour based bread. No milk to drink. The ran out fruit and yogourt often. There was no variety of food to pick from. It was either toast, hard boiled eggs or yogourt and fruit salade. I will never go back there.
