I liked the convenient location and that the rooms were big (for San Fran standards).
The bed was really hard for one. The worst part was that we started to smell marijuana really strong in our room around 6pm. By 615pm, the whole room was permeated with the smell. I was furious, especially since we have a 4-month old that's on oxygen as he has minor lung issues. I didn't pay to stay in a crack house. I called the lobby and the woman at the front desk could care less. She said she wound send security up. She asked if I knew what room it was coming from. How should I know?? You want me to go outside and sniff every door until I myself get High?? Isn't that your job?? Anyway, I asked her to call me once security found out who it was or to switch my room. She said she would call back. We decided to go out and come back later since the smell was toxic by that time. She never called back and when we arrived back at the room, thankfully the smell was gone. But security was never sent up either. Never even offered an apology for it. Worst hotel experience ever.
The value and the location were both good.
The carpet and decoration were antiquated. The bathrooms were very small. In the bathroom, there was no counter space and a very small shower stall with a low hanging shower head.
Too many homeless nearby the hotel. Very noisy during the night. The room is small and the hotel is very old fashioned.
great , clean hotel, excellent customer service
Even though the location was not great..it was still close enough to the wharf..the Hotel itself was great..i will definitely recommend it and make it my choice again
my room very clean , I love it
Staff, room (too small), quiet, good location
Attached to diner.
Room and location were awful there were homeless people sleeping out front. There were prostitution deals going on in the alley by the entrance to the parking garage. I also saw a homeless man take a ×%÷+ on the sidewalk outside the hotel. The beds were hard the room was small and there was no bathtub only a small shower so I had to baithe my 13 mo old in the sink. Deff a no go if you are traveling with family.
Nice stuff. Need to decrease parking rate.
It is a beautiful character building that must have been luxurious at some point in its past. The staff were friendly and inviting.
The building has unfortunately, not been well kept. The carpets are overdue for cleaning, but the rest was clean.
For half of the price the hotel would be an excellent choice. However, for a price of over $300/ night plus $36 /night for parking the hotel does not worth. For some of the rooms even $100/night would be a stretch.
We liked the big room, the many towels, that most doors were pushbutton. The breakfast was adequate. Loved the indoor connection and easy access to Mel's Diner and the many free papers.
For elderly, walking the distance to our room was through three doors and a bit bumpy. Signage to car Exit might be clearer and to "back room" numbers. We wandered a bit at first; maybe it was us.
Quick bus connections and the gym were useful for me. Breakfast was rather good: toast, eggs, jogurt, fruits etc.
The staff at The Opal was very helpful and accomodating,
The bed was not the most comfortable and the hotel could use some updating
To pay approx. $125 for a very small room, and then have to spend approx. $40 for overnight parking, stroked me and my wallet the wrong way.
It was cold the house.
It was very small and cozy.
Pay for the parking!
Price and Location
Staff could have been a Little Nicer but they were OK
Fairly quiet considering the location.
WiFi was only free for the first 24hrs then $5 per day. Limited parking however it was cheaper to park at the public garage by AMC Theaters $26 per 24 hours. Room was at a slant felt a little strange.
Great value; nice continental breakfast & coffee in the morning; comfortable bed. Perfect for a one-night stay/place to crash after a night out in the city. Conveniently located on VanNess.
Not enough outlets; tiny bathroom with poor lighting and very difficult to maneuver (opening the door blocked the toilet so you sort of had to step into the bathtub to shut the bathroom door).
The staff was great
The room was nice and pretty roomy for 3 people. Free breakfast, friendly staff. They sent us a bottle of wine since it was my birthday. Close to the wharf, nearby stores like CVS, nearby restaurants (highly recommend Mel's Diner next door), and easy to catch a bus. It was a great location for out of state visitors.
No ventilation in the bathroom. There were only windows with no screens.
location and easy to find. Staff was very nice, and didnt have a problem to change my room.
parking was an issue. its always hard to find parking in SF, but I was lucky to find parking 2 blocks down, from the hotel.
