Great value for a very expensive city. The staff was easy going and friendly. The newspapers and coffee in the morning. The location is fantastic if you don't mind being close to the TL. I don't. I was there over St Patrick's Day and the place was quiet even though there was a big disturbance just a few short blocks away. They make a solo traveler feel very comfortable.
The smell of the room.
Room was lovely. Bathroom is nicely remodeled. Location was good, very close to Fisherman's Wharf and close to bus stop to reach attractions.
Needed two elevators to get from parking area to room.
Previous guests' garment left behind One treadmill in workout room, which was in use by other guest at the time. No airport service offered. No bathroom ventilation.
Friendlyness of the staff is exceptional.
Thin walls between rooms.
We often stay at the Opal. It's within walking distance of the Fillmore, so we stay when we attend concerts. It's an excellent hotel.
Our neighbor would take long late showers and the pipes in the wall were very loud. The hotel is located on the edge of the tenderloin so the people in the area were very questionable I definitely would avoid walking around alone or after dark
Good location; Free wifi in the entire hotel (good speed although in the last evening we had some issues while connecting); helpful personnel; the size of the bed; they changed the towels daily
Poor breakfast (some pastries, bananas and apples, coffee and tea); Private parking (USD 40 per day), although the parking is free between 8pm and 9am near the hotel; The furniture was old; the smell and the heating system of the room
Location and convenience !
No bad experience. I know SF is expensive all the way around. Just nothing special about the room for $140
No pool No parking unless you wanted to pay $40 a day. Location near a community service dept. lots of rift raft hang around. Did not feel comfortable at all.
WiFi is slow, sorry and thank
Convenient location to most of the places that i wanted to visit. Next door to the AMC cinema and many bus stops along Van ness
Before booking this hotel via booking.com, I read a lot of reviews and what jumped at me was how many of these were bad experiences suffered by guests. Still, due to convenience to the locations that I wanted to visit, I chose to take the risk. Despite the fact that there was no minibar or any sort of room service, an additional $50 was taken from my credit card as advance 'refundable' payment for 'utilities'. The thing is that I checked out since February 13th after a week staying in room 505 at the hotel but till date, my money has not been refunded. At checkout I was told that it would take two days for the refund to be effected. This did not happen; then I called again after a week and was told that it would take a week and half. Then I called after two weeks and was told it would take three to four weeks. I've called several times since then and after all sorts of excuses, they simply put me on hold and cut me off after a while. This is in addition to the mostly unfriendly service during my stay. They didn't even bother to ask me if I enjoyed my stay at checkout. I do not think that they are at all interested in repeat business or even care about the customers that they are supposed to be catering to. The next time I visit San Francisco, I will never even dream of staying at the Opal as there are better hotels situated within the same location.
Good location, friendly and helpful staff
The rooms, the smell and the noise of some pipes or the air condition is really annoying in some rooms
The location, the personal
Rooms are not dirty, but also not clean, some of them are kinda noisy.
Ophelia who checked us in was so nice. We had a great conversation with her and she set such a wonderful tone for our stay. All the staff were helpful and smiling, such a lovely place.
Comfortable place to stay in SF. GOOD LOCATION FOR WALKING THE CITY. Good restaurants nearby on Polk St., especially liked Afghan restaurant around the corner on Geary.
Only small problem here is the social services available nearby draws some unfortunates to the area. No danger, but a little uneasy. Best to walk around.
large room & location was great
lots of taxes & undisclosed fees. ended up being about $60-70 more than I was expecting!
- shower cubicle was small, shower was slow - no safe in the room
I liked the convenient location and that the rooms were big (for San Fran standards).
The bed was really hard for one. The worst part was that we started to smell marijuana really strong in our room around 6pm. By 615pm, the whole room was permeated with the smell. I was furious, especially since we have a 4-month old that's on oxygen as he has minor lung issues. I didn't pay to stay in a crack house. I called the lobby and the woman at the front desk could care less. She said she wound send security up. She asked if I knew what room it was coming from. How should I know?? You want me to go outside and sniff every door until I myself get High?? Isn't that your job?? Anyway, I asked her to call me once security found out who it was or to switch my room. She said she would call back. We decided to go out and come back later since the smell was toxic by that time. She never called back and when we arrived back at the room, thankfully the smell was gone. But security was never sent up either. Never even offered an apology for it. Worst hotel experience ever.
The value and the location were both good.
The carpet and decoration were antiquated. The bathrooms were very small. In the bathroom, there was no counter space and a very small shower stall with a low hanging shower head.
Too many homeless nearby the hotel. Very noisy during the night. The room is small and the hotel is very old fashioned.
great , clean hotel, excellent customer service
Even though the location was not great..it was still close enough to the wharf..the Hotel itself was great..i will definitely recommend it and make it my choice again
my room very clean , I love it
