One staff person checking in 7 people - very slow. Tried 5 times during my stay to call the front desk, never received an answer. They need more staff.
I didn't book the Palmer House to watch television, but it (the television) is obviously programmed to trick and/or frustrate the guest into purchasing programming, and deliberately makes access to free TV exceptionally difficult and frustrating. On the basis of this deliberate "shell game" practice, I expect to stay elsewhere on my next visit to Chicago.
This hotel is really great, rooms are small but nice and clean, the staff is nice and all what I loved it is that they have a great lobby and you are at 10, 15 min from every attraction from Chicago!
There are some things what I didn't liked, you have to pay for wi-fi ( we are in 2014, the internet should be for free!), you don't have refrigerator, coffee or tea in your room.
Everything good value great location breakfast a great boon efficient staff
It is very close to the metro/subway. Within walking distance from major landmarks. Clean and well maintained.
Internet or parking not included in the price, both of which is quite expensive.
Gorgeous lobby area, Starbucks on site, great gym.
Small room and didn't like decor. Hotel very large and impersonal. No tea and coffee facilities or robes in rooms.
Everything was perfect, right in the center, close to the subway. Fantastic historical feeling inside.
The included breakfast is very nice. The room are well equiped.
No good view from the window.
Price of breakfast
Everything about this hotel was brilliant. We were given a very warm welcome from Mark Duncan and Edgar. They noticed it was our 25th wedding anniversary and upgraded our room from a standard double to an executive king size corner room which was amazing. We went out for the afternoon to explore and on our return found a card from Mark and Edgar wishing us a lovely anniversary, along with a bottle of wine and some cheese and biscuits. As well as this everyone in the hotel was very efficient and friendly, from the breakfast staff, bar staff and room maids.
There wasn't anything I didn't like in this hotel and would love to visit it again.
Liked everything about this hotel probably one of the most historic places in Chicago and very central to everything
Loved the old world elegance.
Light next to bed did not work and I could hear the constant noise of the Chicago rapid transit.
Excellent housecleaning and service by employees.
We had reserved a room for four adults. At check-in we were offered an upgrade to the Business Executive floor that came with a lovely 'snack' buffet, which served amply for dinner and then a wonderful breakfast the next morning. It was fabulous! We had a great time, walked to the Lake at night and to the Art Institute the next morning. Perfect in every way. A truly first class establishment.
Location of the hotel and cleaness of the room
Noisy room and we could hear everything from the side room and the hotel corridor. Elevator during checkout time (11:00 a.m) doesn´t work eficciently. Pricely wi-fi
Loved being surrounded by such history and character. The room was great and quite large. Fit our family of four comfortably. Staff was always helpful and friendly and you can't beat the location for access to all the downtown tourist spots. Highly recommend The Palmer House
Parking fees but they are no worse than anyone else around there at 42.00 a day.
The bed looked very small at first because we had booked a double room, but then we slept on it and it was by far the best mattress we had ever slept on! We were on the inside square of the building so we didn't get much sunlight, but that didn't really bother us because we were only in the room for sleeping anyway! The downstairs bar was amazing, Carrie was the best server ever! The lobby itself was absolutely beautiful, and we loved that there was a Starbucks right in the hotel. Location is right near all train and bus routes, and anywhere you need to go you can get to easily from this area. I would definitely stay here again!
Pool was kind of 'underdone' for the hotel, but I suspect most people don't go for the pools in Chicago :)
This visit was great! I loved the huge room!
Everything was fine.
Excellent location and a classy hotel
Rather small room due likely to when the hotel was built. The double room was very small and such amenities as a refrigerator would have been nice.
Location, beautiful common areas, clean comfortable rooms
Front desk "supervisor" was flat out RUDE and unhelpful at check in, small rooms
I like how old the hotel is and the beautiful decor. Modern meets the 1930s.
Lobby is magnificent. Roomy lovely bedrooms. Courteous and helpful staff--recommended a great place for dinner (Rosebud Prime)
Small bathroom but it really didn't bother us. Also noise from L train but it didn't bother us either.
Concierge service was excellent; staff very accommodating & friendly
No refrigerator in the room
