Just like the city its self our staff is made up of a range of different people. At the Pontiac Hotel we have a different story to tell. The owner Magna started his career as a Fisherman in Norway and made his way to America were he now takes pride in giving his patrons a comfortable and happy stay in San Francisco. We all speak English and work hard to be good communicators despite language barriers though we do have three employees who speak Spanish, one who can speak some German, amongst other languages.

The location of the place could make one claustrophobic. Also the cleintele (average) could draw undesirable elements.
nice staff, clean
Area in SF was a little affronting.
Liked the staff. Liked breakfast. Liked shower room.
Wish they had cable TV
Room was pretty ok, with a comfortable bed and the wifi was fast! :)
The location can be quite disturbing at night, but I guess that reflects in the price. Shared bathrooms had doors with broken locks (lol). No aircon in the room (that I could see anyway) - when I was there the temp was manageable, but in mid-summer it could be a problem, as the windows did not open.
Breakfast hours were nice and had decent selection (especially TEA) Wifi had no problems on phone or laptop Staff were helpful and nice
No bad experience, but be aware the immediate neighborhood (maybe a block) is not nice. Walk up to Market and you'll be fine. Had no problems as a mid-20s male.
It was good price value for this property, considering it was walking distance from downtown San Fran. Sure there will be some sketchy parts in the Mission area, and you will see that down the road from this hotel, but don;t be alarmed - they are harmless. The hotel was good for the $$ and you get what you pay for (shared bathrooms lol). Nice breakfast area and more than just coffee.
Didn't like how there are only 2 showers in the entire floor (dont know how many rooms are ensuite) and the ones on the floor above me were definitely cleaner than the ones on mine. Also, the sheets didn't cover the bed completely, so I had to get a second sheet.
Breakfast and wifi
The extra money charged and they said its gonna come back and it didnt, they lied about the prices online its wasnt the same at all and u figure out after checking out so u have no choice u already paied all the money and waiting for the extra to be back.
Low room rate, close to BART/Metro-Station
Located in a rather shady area - many homeless people and junkies roam the streets around the hotel. The whole hotel smells very bad, even after opening the windows the smell wouldn't dissapear. 2 showers and toilets for a whole floor and those are left often very dirty. I had a room that was facing the street, so it was very noisy at night ( that included people down the street screaming at each other) and the neon sign of the hotel lit up the room despite all the blinds being shut. The breakfast was very simple and served in papercups and paper plates. A tour company I booked a tour with, called the hotel regarding a reconfirmation and they said I wasn't staying there yet, even though I did - thanksfully I managed to reconfirm the tour myself on time! I would definitely spend more money, rather than having a overall unpleasant experience like this!
Wi-Fi, breakfast, bed is very confortable.
Location and streets a rounds. Many homeless and drug dealers/addicts.
Great helpfull staff.good coffee.centrally located(close to everything)
ran out of time
It's worth it
The neighbourhood is not nice. But still you can stay there. Very good location
Low cost considering the average hotel price.
The communication was poor. My boyfriend phoned using the general hotel number to speak to me, spoke to the hotel receptionist but noone told me that he called. I also told a female receptionist that I would like to have an early breakfast the next morning 'cause I had to be at the airport at 6. She told me that it could be done and that she would inform the next receptionist about it. Unfortunately, the message wasn't passed on to the male staff working from early Tuesday morning onwards. Thus, I didn't have breakfast that morning. The neighbourhood was frightening; there were a lot of people with psychological issues walking around the hotel premises. No fruits aside from an apple for breakfast, cheap low quality bread, sugary cereals and low quality jam.
A good hotel for its price and very close to central part of the city and cable car start stations. Nice lounge area to breakfast and just use during day.
Shocking neighborhood, full of homeless permanently staying on those streets. Not the most pleasant 2min walk to the hotel from the main street...
The entire hotel smells like a chemical and its so strong that the smell will be there in our worn dress until we wash it. Staff is not courteous but not so rude. This hotel is the last resort when one is in a desperate situation that there is no other hotels available.
Nothing at all!!
Where to start!! The location is awful, full of homeless people and the actual hotel its self is full of very unsavoury characters staying there. We felt unsafe from the moment we were dropped off by the taxi! The showers did not work and the water wasn't even hot!! It was so bad here we booked a 5 night stay and stayed for 1 and that was only because our flight was late and we were tired!!! Do not stay here if you have any standards at all.
Clean hostel. Got some issues with the parking, and the zone at first sight seems dangerous around. The place seems to have good security inside. The relation price-confort is fair.
The price is good for what you get. It's a nice central location and close to many busstops to go anywhere you want.
There is only one shower per floor. It can be very noisy outside & our heater was broken ans constantly on max.
The staff was very kind, the breakfast was good and the facilities clean.
The location is not as safe, there are a lot of homeless people around.
How much I get for my buck (compared to other very seedy and more expensive hotels in that vicinity).
Lack of noise control to other guest...(loud music, partying , Raging ) until 5:00am.
The place is very clean and new. They even use keycards instead of keys. Napkins were fresh, room was nice. Internet is fast and they even serve breakfast! I really enjoyed my stay and would try to book this place again.
I can't really remember anything bad. Well, it's not the most expensive place, so bathrooms are shared, but they are very clean and convenient.
It is close to bus stops and it is close to a lot of stores.
It is not safe to go out at night.
