Just like the city its self our staff is made up of a range of different people. At the Pontiac Hotel we have a different story to tell. The owner Magna started his career as a Fisherman in Norway and made his way to America were he now takes pride in giving his patrons a comfortable and happy stay in San Francisco. We all speak English and work hard to be good communicators despite language barriers though we do have three employees who speak Spanish, one who can speak some German, amongst other languages.

Location is perfect

Homeless people in this district worth putting up with because of easy access to public transport from here.
Great beds, but all good especially sociable breakfast area.

room smelled terrible on arrival- had to buy air freshener. Area around hotel a bit dodgy, at times wifi didn't work in room. Not enough toilets/showers for number of rooms
breakfast was good- helped save money

WiFi didn't work with all the way on my floor (not a big deal 4g LTE was invented for a reason)
Younger staff lady was cool af

Room had some sily smell, no bathroom in rooms (but bathroom was clean), whole neiburhood is full of hobos and smell on piss.
Breakfast was great, rum were comfortable, close to town center
May 17, 2015
There was only one shower on my floor and it was pretty gross. That wasn't the staff's fault though, that was thanks to other guests leaving their garbage everywhere instead of cleaning up after themselves.
I was expecting a closet with a foam mattress, but the room was decently sized and really clean. Breakfast was great - toast, fruit, bagels, oatmeal, cereal. I know other reviewers say the area wasn't great, but I never felt unsafe. Yes, there were homeless people hanging around but that's just a fact of living on the warmer west coast. Plus anyone who feels uncomfortable can just take 7th Ave instead of 6th and avoid them.

The area is rough but there were other much more expensive hotels in the same area. As a solo woman traveller I felt safe (though I wouldn't have wanted to come back late at night...having said that, the same applies in most cities.)
The position...easy walking distance to most places and close to all transport. The beds were really comfortable. Good choice of food for breakfast with fresh fruit and a corner shop (Minna and 6th) with really friendly staff which sold most things you might need. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Staff. Room for value.not new, but clean and comfortable enough for a good night

location was so bad because of lots of homeless.. very small, stink and dirty room
May 4, 2015
the people that stays in the hotel.. half of the people that stays in this hotel are tourists in low budget, but the other half are SF natives, most of them drug addicts, they tend to be noisy, dirty and disgusting. The shared bathrooms even though are cleaned everyday if you have the bad luck to have those disgusting people staying in your floor you will probably find the bathrooms in a terrible state every time you need to use them. 6th street! it is full of homeless people and in it is a sad view of SF.. it is incredible that a city as rich as SF has this kind of poverty and human misery. Anyway, just one block away from 6th street everything is OK.
What I like is the same that I dislike.. the location. this is very close to all the attractions of the city but it is also located in the infamous 6th street. The breakfast was decent, and the staff people were polite and helpful.

Free, yet very dull, breakfast
Interesting neighborhood with a lot of nice locals during the day. Even though I never had any problem you should be catious later at night Close to the BART, a few very nice restaurants in the area Most of the staff was very friendly Showers and bathroom could get pretty nasty but thats mostly because some cant and wont clean up after themselves, not all of the responsibility is on the staff if you share bathrooms.

- There are a hidden condition. - I paid a penalty (one night) for no reason - Little bad shared bathroom - Poor breakfast
- Location - Free Wi-Fi

The staff were variable--some were nice and helpful, but some seemed like the were just crackheads off the street. And there are crackheads on the street all over. But there are also good areas nearby. Overall this place is not somewhere you want to hang out at or bring kids to, but it does the job.
You get what you pay for--somewhere to sleep. And not much else.

The neighbourhood is a little rough but nothing you have to worry about. And some strange people live in this hotel, sometimes you can hear a weird laughing.
You wont get a 5star hotel that should be clear for this price. It is basic but for the price it is perfect. Cheapest hotel online. Everything was alright and pretty clean.

They broke my boyfriends car window the first night there

The shower is horrible, low ceilings with cracking plaster pieces. Don't expect any nice views from the window. The furniture is shabby and worn out.
Location is great: close to Market st. and the center part of the city. Friendly staff and a good breakfast: tea/coffee, cereal with milk, fruits, brand & jam.
April 14, 2015
They twice blocked the cost on my bank account. I'm not happy for that.

Sharing bathrooms were mouldy and dirty, the TV was not cable as described.
Good breakfast and wifi.

There wasn't really any bad experience besides the walk down 6th like the other people on comments the walk down 6th is pretty its ghetto and there are alot of homeless and addicts so if your not really used to seeing that I recommend going down 7th you wont really see any of that
The rooms were clean and the staff was really helpful and courteous the breakfast was also pretty good I highly recomend this place if your in the range for budget the price is good for how close you are to the shopping district and breakfast is included

The location of the place could make one claustrophobic. Also the cleintele (average) could draw undesirable elements.

Is this hotel also some kind of rehab centre? A woman in the elevator asked me if I was one of the doctors and she was wearing a medical wrist band. I felt very uncomfortable at this hotel and ended up staying at a friend's hotel. I felt that this place was not open about what it was - i.e. its not just a hotel.
24 hour checkin. Fine if you're on a budget but want a private room and only want the hotel for a bed not a place to hang out.
