Location location location! All the rest was poor value for a lot of money. The room was small and requires renovation. Poor lighting, poor noise insulation (could hear every squeak from the corridor and noise from ice machine) no ventilation, broken sink, small and not so functioning tv set, dead remote control. Complementary wireless internet was ok most of the time, but the speed was not that great.

The price of the hotel given its location was reasonable. The staff were nice. The bathroom sink was too small. The bathroom shower tile was peeling off. The floor in bathroom did not feel clean nor did the carpet in the room. There was no circulation in the room and i had no heat and was cold at night because i did not have heavy blankets on the bed. the painting in the room was peeling. There was no light in the closet. My door lock did not latch as the door jam was loose and i had to jiggle it to get the lock to latch.

The location is great (if you can handle the noise of the trolly turn around). Also, it is cheaper than many of the other San Francisco hotels. I confronted them about recent posts about bed bugs and they reassured me it had been taken care of. In addition I checked for them and their word was correct. The staff had very poor communication skills, and did not feel very professional. My bathroom was not very clean, and there were no extra amenities to the hotel. It is a budget hotel, but for "budget", they mean budget. If you are a college student, or need a fast hotel, I recommend staying here, but not if you are looking for a nice, or semi- nice hotel in the city.

Excellent location. Little but good bar inside the hotel. The room stank a little bit of old, but nothing unbearable.

Staff were quite helpful and the hotel was in the perfect location for me. My first room was very noisy so they changed it for me. Rather noisy, both from external noise and internal noise.

Friendly and helpful staff. Loved the option of having a room with two twin beds. Perfect for a girlfriend night out in the City. Could see this as a good option for families if any of them adjoin larger rooms. Room was clean. Heat went off at 11:00 pm for the night (but the staff did bring us extra blankets when we got cold). I would have liked to have a hair dryer in the room. The key cards were a bit difficult to get in and out of the lock slots.

The location is amazing! The bed was fairly comfortable. The room was fairly clean but the bathroom was a mess. Peeling paint, mold all over shower, no water and the toilet barely flushed. Our room had new carpet but it was still peeling up in cornors. The room was dark and dingy, there was no charm what so ever. (The lobby was nice) The tv had very few channels and there were no channels listed. There was absolutely no view, except for of a wall out our window.

Good service and good place. Near to bus, Bart and cable car. Just one minutes far to the shopping center. The condition is really bad, and the room is very small. In winter, it is cold.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. Although we didn't take advantage of it, the breakfast is a good deal. The free happy hour was excellent and we've been telling our friends about that.

The Powell Hotel was located perfectly for my needs. The Visitor Center was about a half block away and was a treasure trove of information about the places I wanted to see. The hotel should encourage the use of the Visitor Center. The hotel needs a little attention but for the most part I was pleased with the value for my money. I would have liked a latch to secure the door in addition to the lock. I would recommend the hotel but with the notation that it is an old hotel that needs a little tlc. The "Cocktail Party" only offered beer or wine. The mixed drinks options were non-existent. The Continental Breakfast was the same every day for the whole week I was there. A little variety would have been appreciated.

Location was excellent... The sounds from Forever21 which shares the wall was very loud till 10pm... Not recommended to stay there to relax... I stay there just because for the location for shopping and it worked out. As far as parking, you almost have to use Valet parking since it's so hard to find parking near by... Also the room I originally booked was not ready at 2:30pm(check in 2pm), and I was told the room wouldn't b ready for another 40-45mins... We settled with 2 single beds room instead of 2 twin beds room...

It's located at Powell street in a very central location. Close to everything. Nice, helpful and friendly staff. Room too small. Shower had a poor water stream, I have been in hostels with a better stream.

Location! My friends and I stayed at The Powell for a weekend getaway. Their room overlooked the cable car turn around and they said it was noisy. Our room was an interior room overlooking a courtyard and it was perfect. Our room was a mini-suite so it was a good size for being an old hotel. It was right in the middle of all major shopping. I will stay there again.

We like the location the most. The design of the hotel was pretty cool but it was cold and we could figure out how to turn the heat on. Other than that our stay at the Powell was great and I would definitely stay there again.

From the moment I checked in, the staff were very kind. Before I reached the assigned room, hotel were offering snacks in the lounge floor Mezzanie. The room and overall cleanliness was number one priority for the hotel. Doubled checked if additional housekeeping services or requests would be needed for the guest. They also provided happy hour and continental breakfast. Overrall, it provided a sense of history, family oriented staffs and great location of San Francisco.

The staff is very nice in the hotel. They are just renovating the hotel but they don't really clean. I had a big fat cockroach in my bathtub one morning and that freaked me out.

“Staff at reception were helpful and accomodating. Rory, at the bar, provided plenty of useful information about bars and music in the area as well as keeping drinks replenished! Room was cleaned every day and bed was extremely comfortable. Reading information provided about the city yielded plenty of tips about where to eat etc. Many thanks for a very pleasant New Year! ” Michele, Weston-super-mare |
