Great location! Wow! Wow! Wow!
The location was excellent and the staff where fantasric to deal with
The WiFi was very poor, beds where very uncomfortable. Room we had was very dark as it was a inside room that had windows that looked into a alley.
Location can't be beat.
Wi-Fi was good Hosted Happy Hour was unexpected Breakfast was doughnuts & bakery goods, not the 'wrapped pastry' so often seen in many places.
It's a 100 year old hotel, so one has to take that into consideration. They preserve the history, but you also have to understand & appreciate that as part of the experience. As such, sound insulations isn't so great, so expect to hear 'city sounds' through the night. Sirens, honking, bottles clinking, etc.
Location and Price
Small bathroom. would have liked night stands on both sides of the bed.
staff were friendly and helpful. Location was excellent. Provided all the services you need at a very reasonable price.
we stayed on two occasions an on our second stay the room faced the street and was a bit noisy.
We have been to San Fran before and although this hotel isn't 5* luxury, I would have no hesitation in staying again! Rooms were excellent, staff were friendly, a small breakfast included, free drinks most evenings and an unrivalled location!
There was someone with a banner outside the hotel on one of the days saying that the hotel does not treat its employees well. They also handed out some fliers. If these claims are true, I would not want to stay there again, even though the stay was overall pleasant.
Location is excellent! Near to BART, cable cars and many buses. Easy to get around.
Thin walls, noisy at times.. It's an old building, I guess...
nothing to like
The room was stuffy and hot. We had to ask for a fan.
Solid old world charm. Free happy hour drinks amongst cheerful people.
Much higher tariff than 2 years ago.
Location Comfort Staff Free drinks!
A little shabby round the edges
Reception staff were very friendly and helpful, especially Romy,David and Theresa
Location and helpful F/O staff.
The internal of the hotel is very tired and needs urgent attention. One of two lifts was oos during our stay causing lengthy delays.
Location Staff Rooms U don't need nothing more than that !
Nothing that worth to mention
Very central location. We stayed on two occasions during our trip. The rooms are clean and serviceable. The staff were very helpful. Our first stay room was very quiet. This is a great hotel for people like us who spend very little time in the hotel and just want a clean room, comfortable bed and good wi-fi.
The second stay room was a bit noisy as was second floor facing the street.
Being close to the cable cars and the buses was a definite bonus. The hotel is also near to all the major shops. The room was more than adequate but first impressions dulled by the drab decoration. It is an old hotel but this gives it character. The staff were very polite and helpful. Breakfast consisted of fruit juice, coffee and a selection of pastries.
The only negative thing about the hotel was the colour of the bedroom. It made the room look unwelcoming.
It was cheap, and clean enough to stay there without getting bed bugs - although we did check the mattress to make sure of that before sleeping.
You get the sense this is a hotel for prostitutes and drug dealers when you see the other clientele. It is clear that during non-conference time periods, it would be an unacceptable hotel choice. It's only ok because they had all the conference attendees there.
close proximity to bart, shopping, dining.
Internet connectivity was poor. It frequently disconnected.
No AC in room noisy elevators.
Liked the closeness to everything.
The hotel had nothing to offer no restaurants no bar no proper breakfast area rooms so very pokey especially bathroom and toilet only stayed because we were with a trip
Hotel well situated for shops, restaurants and sightseeing and for travelling on the metro to the airport entrance down escalator next to hotel. Trams turn round outside but never affected our peace and quiet at night. Pleasantly surprised when found there was a happy hour or two from 5 -7 during weekdays- drinks all free. Also free buffet breakfast each morning - although limited to croissants and doughnuts, coffee and orange juice this was most welcome.
All the homeless people begging in the street outside was very off putting although they didnt bother you, it made me personaly feel uneasy. However, it is not just in Union Square there are a lot of other areas in San Francisco where this is in plentiful. No bar in the hotel.
