The Powell Hotel is located right next to the historical trolley line, as well as the F-line, which gets you to all sorts of places. The staff were friendly and helpful, our room was clean and it was relatively inexpensive for San Fran!
There wasn't anything I didn't particularly dislike - some people may be put off by the fact it is an old hotel, and is a little threadbare in places. But it was clean, and in a great location.
The room is as to be expected from an older hotel. My room was clean and I did not have any issues except for the poor internet service. I was able to tether my cell phone and luckily I had good reception (17 mb down , 4 mb up). Wifi was .9 mb down and .25 up. I liked the area as there were plenty of local restaurants and the hills made for good exercise.
WiFi should be a little better.
location friendly staff
poor wi-fi no air conditioning old furniture and decor had to open window for breeze let in 12 flys at least
Location was great. You expect traffic noise in the heart of the city. Old hotel.
Squeaking lift at night.
Convenient to shops and public transport. Also close to eating houses and cable car. Staff very helpful. Good WI Fi.
Lots of noise in our room even though we asked for a quiet room.Very poor breakfast facilities standing room only. Our bedroom and bathroom needed decorating and upgrading. No fan in our room so very hot to sleep in.
No air conditioning Booked a certain room type and didn't get it Was first put in a room next to a main road and heard all the sirens going
- Location, location, location
- Our room was not cleaned after first night - cover on mattress was very uncomfortable and made noise - building didn't reflect the pictures - room was very small (barely couldn't fit 2 suitcases) - breakfast area way too small
- Excellent services - Cleaned - Confortable - Localization - Price
- noises of street (sometimes)
The location was great, and staff very friendly. The room was clean and we were given extra towels upon request. Older facility but with charm.
Rooms could use some updates ....... Full length mirror, ceiling fan, and small refrigerator would be nice.
The staff was very friendly and helpful.
No air conditioning. Rock hard mattresses. Furniture and bathroom fixtures in disrepair. A street performer started singing non-stop right outside our window at the crack of dawn.
Old and overpriced. Don't even have a vending machine to buy water.
Location - 10 steps from the Cable Car Turnaround Friendly Staff Price - Great value for location
Mold in the shower & weak water pressure Loud construction work in nearby rooms
Location Friendly staff Room size ok for downtown hotel
Quite noisy Give breakfast a miss, only coffee and croissant and very small are
The staff were helpful and friendly the happy hour and breakfast were also a nice touch. The location meant catching the train to and from the airport was easy. The place is no 5 star but is excellent value for money. As we spent the majority of our time out and about it suited our needs perfectly. I was concerned after reading some of the reviews but need not of been. I am reasonably fussy when it comes to cleanliness and accomodation and the Powell did the job.
Steps away from the Powell street BART Easy walk to Moscone Center Cable car & Bus outside the door Clean Friendly and professional main desk staff
This is a very old, creaky hotel Rooms facing Powell street are noisy It was a busy time of year, and SF hotels gouge on the price because they can.
facility, room is very small, breakfast is bad
The staff were incredibly friendly; helping us with parking, booking baseball tickets, printing off confirmations, advising us on places to go. The location was perfect for all public transport in and around the city. The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. Mon-Thursday complimentary drinks and snacks from 5-6:30 were brilliant. Although simple the complimentary breakfast was an added bonus
Not much! The wifi was a little temperamental.
Good price Amazing location close to everything Very friendly and helpful staff
Very slow and unreliable WiFi Bad sound insulation - cable car, sirens and other city noise was very loud. I needed earplugs to sleep Water pressure in shower is very weak
The location is the best thing about this hotel.
I think all accommodation in San Fran is over priced and this is no exception. It is a very basic hotel - much more so than the lobby insinuates. The rooms are quite old and tired looking. They had plumbing issues and the room was not ready for us when we tried to check in at 2.00am. They then had to call around to find us another hotel whilst we waited in the lobby - they paid for this but all in all it was a bit of a lame experience. The hotel they put us up in (Villa Florence) was much nicer than the Powell - we stayed one night at each. I would recommend Villa Florence over it 100%.
Very central . Friendly staff .
Bit noisy as it's in such a central location.
The Powell hotel location was fantastic. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was big and extremely comfortable.
We were looking for an inexpensive hotel for one night near Union Square. This was a great value, staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable. Our room overlooked the end of the trolley car line which was a little noisy but fun to watch. We have decided that the Powell is perfect for a quick weekend getaway. There is even a small continental breakfast thrown in.
very poor internet connection
need screens on windows. it was warm and we opened the window and a huge bug (roach?) flew in. very unpleasant.
Location at Powell and Market can't be beat - overlooking the cable car turnaround, across the street from Muni/Bart stations and upscale mall. Old world charm. Very pleasant staff, especially Kenny!
Meager continental breakfast. Very small bathrooms - older hotel so space is limited.
