Location

Having picked the hotel based on shining reviews I was quite surprised that our stay did not refelct this. Our room was really noisy with the constant opening an closing of the stairwell door next to our room ( the fire alarm malfunctioned on the first night also at 4am, fire brigade, the works came). However I would have overlooked all these things but for the fact that the hotel's one major advantage/selling point proved elusive, the rooftop bar !! It was closed to accomodate private parties almost every night and the hotel staff wold inform the guests by posting a notice in the elevator everyday infoming the guests and 'invite them to join them for a drink' in the dreary lounge below. I think it is wrong to promote the excellent rooftop bar view of the Empire State building and then prevent guests from availing of it. I would not stay at this hotel again!! They treat their guests as second rate and care more for the profit of private parties than their guests. Avoid at all costs !! Oh yeah nearly forgot, the shower should be renamed "the dribble" because thats all it was !!

The location is great. Just on 5th avenue....really where I wanted to stay. On the down side, only 2 elevators to service such a building a re not enough. The rooms ar a bit small, when compared to the nearby Setai.

The room was nice but a little small for two people. The location was great and we enjoyed coffee in Bryant Park each morning only three streets to the north of the hotel.

I have stayed at The Strand five times in the last four years and unfortunately this recent stay will likely be my last. In my opinion, things have changed for the worse recently and The Strand seems to be shooting for a more upscale guest. One of the things I liked most about The Strand in the past was the free and very casual breakfast. The free breakfast has been scrapped and replaced by a very expensive and formal breakfast with a fancy paper printed menu (two eggs and hash browns will run you $20). That change was very disappointing. Also disappointing was the "free" internet. The free internet is worth every penny, that is to say worthless unless you want to spend your entire stay watching the spinning "Loading" graphic on your computer screen. My suggestion would be to leave your laptop at home unless you have places other than The Strand to get online. The free/slow internet must also be a recent change as well. When I called and talked to the it guy in charge he gave me some double-talk about the internet speed and how much guests are allocated and finally confessed that the internet connection was "not the fastest." In the past at the Strand I had no internet issues. I hate to be negative about this hotel and If you'd never stayed there before, these gripes of mine would probably go unnoticed but it had a negative impact on our recent stay.

Location. Helpful staff particularly concierge.

Breakfast was extremely expensive - $59 for 2 people and not large portions. If you forgot to put ' please clean room' light on then room didnt get cleaned! Lack of hot water a problem in one room.

The gentlemen at the front desk that got us our room was fabulous

The room was comfortable, decorated lovely, quiet with nice view. Clean and bathroom was elegant.

The Staff is A1. Service is impecable.

I liked everything about the hotel. But next door there is a construction site for the new Marriott.

Staff were outstanding.

Cost of the breakfast, way over the top, shame as the food was nice.

The rooms were small for the price

The staff members are always curteous, friendly and helpful. They made me feel welcome and went to great lengths to make me feel comfortable. The rooms are beautiful and comfortable. I went there in winter and not once did i feel that my needs were not catered for in respect of the room. The restaurant is superb. Although I went out for lunch and dinner, there was no need to because of the quality of the restaurant.

Excellent location, nice staff, interesting design. Breathtaking views from windows and rooftop terrace/bar.

Poor acoustic of the room (you can hear every word spoken outside), and minimalistic breakfasts. Not bad, but could be better.

Very small rooms! Deluxe Double room is very small. Small closet. For one person for some days okay, but with two people a joke.

The location was very convientent, everyone was super friendly, the hotel is new and up to date.

Breakfast was over by 9:30 during our stay and they told us it was until 11:30. The shower was leaking water.
