The Wheeler Mansion  

Felt more like home, not a hotel. Great retreat to get away from the noisy, busy convention site. Extremely friendly and professional staff. We would stay there again, and again. Preferred hotel to the Hyatt, or any other corporate hotel chain.

staff was not easily to find when needed. We were unsure how to call them from our room. Cab service was not easily available. Our suggestion would be to put a taxi phone number next to the phone in the room. However, our overall experience was fantastic!

We never saw the manager. Someone lives downstairs but we never saw them. When we had questions one of the staff would go downstairs and ask, then come back up to tell us what they said. At a B&B I expect the hosts to show their faces. This is more of a boutique hotel with breakfast. The "concierge" service so touted in their brochure is laughable. The main draw of the Wheeler for us is its proximity to two historic homes: the Glessner Mansion and the Clarke House. Neither of the young women on staff had any idea of what we were talking about! So much for training. Luckily we could read a map, but still, we were hoping for some friendly chat and interesting tips from the inviisible hosts. Once the staff girl gets off (around 7) one is given a number - the mysterious downstairs people, I guess - to call with "any requests whatsoever.." Again disappointment. No one answered the phone and it was only 9 pm! We finally figured out how to work the tv. We stayed two nights, and the second night I asked if an upgrade was available. Wanted a room with whirpool bath. I was willing to pay for it. The young staffer disappeared to talk to the invisible hosts, then came back and said they were all booked up. This was the second weekend of the auto show at McCormick Place, which is only a couple blocks away. But we only saw two or three cars in their parking lot, and saw only one other couple the whole time we were there. So I think rooms were available. I was entirely put off by the lack of service from whoever runs this place. He or she (or it??) has very polite staff but they are not trained at all on concierge responsiblities. One other small but significant omission: They advertise daily paper and turn down service with gratis "fine chocolate truffles" Nix on all of them... no paper (I asked, they just said no, did not offer to get one for us) no turn-down, no truffles.

Large room , fireplace functional, comfortable bed. Privacy repected also!

On our third day, we left the mansion at 10am and when we returned at midnight, the room had not been cleaned and/or refreshed. Very disappointing, and no one available to contact, left voice mail through house phone but received no reply!

Everything! Outstanding staff, food (breakfast), comfort and luxury.

Several issues: First of all the shortage of staff for over a year reflects in the quality of service(11 room hotel). Like all previous comments did we too, have to wait for 15 minutes in front of a closed door at the hotel. (this was after three o clock as indicated by the hotel and booking.com website). This suggests that the apologies made for waiting at the front door are a standard procedure. As we witnessed several times with guests arriving after us. Any queries after 7pm will not be answered, and whilst the website suggests that staff will be available during the day, are they (appears to be only one person) hard to find in an 11 room hotel. The telephone number given was not answered. Don't be mislead by the fact that there is a luxurious breakfast, it is indeed an amenity and starts at 8:30 till 11. For those who do not like jazz music, this hotel might not be the best choice for it is played from 8am till 7pm. Price-quality therefore out of proportion. Unfortunately this has been the worst hotel we have yet encountered.

Very nice mansion which has been converted into a hotel. The amount of work put into decorating the hotel must have been enormous. There are only 11 rooms available.

It was very hard to check in. Doors were locked and it was not obvious what to do. Turns out that you need to call their number to get someone to come down. The lack of staff on duty makes it seem that it is hard to get service. It is understandable that they could not afford full time staff given only 11 rooms. Also, be warned that there is no elevator for the rooms on second and third floor. In the summer, the rooms on the third floor can get too hot even though there is air conditioning.

The Mansion is beautiful. The staff was wonderful. Located in a nice, quiet neighborhood.

This is a B&B, if people want full service hotel accommodations, you won't find it here. If you are looking for a quality, comfortable stay on a historic landmark with great service, then the mansion is your place. Stephanie helped me with every facet of my stay. She was amazing! The Wednesday night market with local businesses and band on the grounds was a special treat. I was in town for a convention and I'll be back next year!

Cab service would've been nice. Put a bit more work into the backyard grounds and add flowers and maybe a fountain. Maybe instructions on a number to call when you reach the front door.

This place is beautiful, comfortable, and was in walking distance to almost everything. The staff was very helpful and kind. Oh, and there is a neighborhood farmers market in the yard on Wednesday nights that is just awesome, live music, great local food. It was a great experience.

The customer service at this establishment is by far the worst I have every encountered. For a room that I was paying so much for I expected more service. The also have a ridiculous cancellation policy of 3 months. Do not stay at that place if you have any place to be in the morning. There is no staff in the place until 9 am,. I was promised an early breakfast that never happened. When I spoke to the manger after my night last stay there she assured me that she would contact me via email which she never did, in fact I didn't even get a receipt for the charges for my stay. This place is highly unprofessional!!! In short don't stay there!!!!!

Had a wonderful time. Friendly staff and I had the whole mansion to myself. There are no ghosts at all! Yay!

An elegant old mansion B&B which was quiet and comfortable. The staff went out of their way to accommodate our needs and requests and were very friendly.

Breakfast began at 9:30 am and was good, but fairly simple.

ホテルの外観、内装ともにこのホームページで見たまま、もしくはそれ以上のすばらしさでした。 こんなに素敵なホテルに泊まったことがなかったので、嬉しくて写真をいっぱい撮りました。 仕事の都合で、朝ご飯を早めにとる必要があったのですが、スタッフの方が柔軟に対応してくださり、 朝ご飯を前日のうちに用意して、部屋に届けてくださったおかげで 毎日、朝ご飯を逃すことなくとることができ感謝しています。

一番困ったのは、チェックインのときです。 入り口がチェックインの時間になっても開いておらず、 携帯電話で中に電話しないと開けてもらえませんでした。 わたしたちは、たまたま、海外で使える携帯を持っていましたが、 もし、この携帯がアメリカで使えなかったらとチェックインすら できなかったかもしれません。 ６泊したのですが、部屋の清掃の具合が日によって違いました。 最初の方は、完ぺきに綺麗だったのですが、数日後にはゴミ箱のごみが残っていたり、コップが洗われていなか- ったりと少し雑なのが目につきました。

Staff virtually nonexistant, luke warm shower, not clean, snow blowing in through leaks around windows, "free parking" is a pothole filled dark alley....need I go on?

This is a good-old fashioned mansion built at 19th century. Staffs are kind and friendly. Good access to McCormick Place convention center.

It is inconvenient for business persons that breakfast is served only in the late morning.

It was not as described. There is only breakfast served. There was no one to answer my calls when I arrived, was locked out, was locked in and didn't have parking. They say there is someone that will answer calls at night if you call from the room. There wasn't. When I showed up, I parked and went to the door, knocked, went around to the front, knocked, and finally after calling 3 times had someone come greet me. The staff was very nice. It is just not well staffed. There are also no cribs or high chairs. Just not baby friendly at all, which is fine, just good to know.

A beautiful old building with nice rooms. The bathroom has updated fixtures which was a plus. It was only a quick walk to the McCormick center.

Could not adjust the temperature of my room. The breakfast started only at 9:30, which was far too late for me to utilize it.
