Location was good. Food was good.
Rooms were definitely dated; wood paneled walls, drop ceiling and old carpet. Would not stay there again
Convinient to the Center of Greenport.
House makes a poor Impression (Needs renovation). Rooms not clean.
One room was too small.
Comfortable,clean. Love old style buildings
No hair dryer, old tv with limited cable
Location Charme of premices
Status of upkeep Totally overpriced
View of marina, walk to village, historic house
No breakfast onsite off-season
Room nicely decorated. Greenport is a pretty little town.
The Gingerbread House is on a busy road so not good for sleeping. The restaurant was closed so no food available. The staff were not overly friendly. The hotel WiFi didn't reach our room and the hotel computer was not working so had to use the local library facilities to check-in for flight home.
Booked the hotel for the weekend of the Maritime Festival. It was quiet, quaint, comfortable, and reasonable (some hotels and motels were listed at $280+ a night). Within walking distance of the village. This is an historic building (1800s) with tons of charm and warmth, and family owned. If you want the canned charm of a chain hotel...move along. We did not eat at the hotel as there are many killer spots around town.
The pool and lounging area were not cleaned, they were full of leaves during our entire stay. I realize that it was the day after Labor Day however the weather was still extremely hot (90 degrees) so it would have been nice to enjoy the pool.
Bathroom was new, full kitchen with stove/oven/fridge/utensils etc, 8 minute walk to town, balcony overlooking the small marina, friendly staff, clean, we were never in want for anything (towels, soap, etc)
Everything was a bit dated except the bathroom, maybe a little musty but we didn't care
The beds were very comfortable, it's just a short walk to town, the pool was beautiful although I didn't have a chance to use it.
Our room was in the front right on the road and there is traffic until late at nite and starts again early because of the cross sound ferry, the exterior is in dire need of a paint job and some new landscaping. I realize that most of the buildings are historic but that doesn't mean you can't paint and keep it clean and add some flowers and new shrubs. The room itself was light and airy and pretty but the hallway and stairs was dreary and musty. The place was manicured and well kept and just needs sprucing up. And of course all Greenporters are lovely and friendly and have been since my sister and I first started coming here 47 years ago with our parents.
Staff is just lovely. Walk to town in 4 minutes.
This was a complete bait and switch. I was led to believe that I was booking a room with 2 king beds because that is the photo accompanying the specific room that I booked, and also which popped up when I received a confirmation with my booking. What I was stuffed into was a tiny room overlooking a wall with a single king bed. And this after paying over $320/night for what I thought was a larger suite. Stay away from this depressing place!
The Inn is really central to Greenport and it's location right next to a Marina makes it very nice for a chill out. Got a really goods night sleep here. : )
The room was small and the whole place feels like it could do with an overhaul. It was very clean though, just wished it hadn't felt so much like an old peoples home (bit harsh, but can't really think how else to describe it).
The appointments in the rooms were modern and comfortable.
Lots of steps for me...I am 75! I liked the pool but would have enjoyed a heated pool more.
In addition to the historic manor, there are several equally old properties (beautiful architecture!) on the site. The gingerbread house is particularly lovely, with architectural details reminiscent of fanciful cake icing and red, etched stained glass panels surrounding the front door. The grounds are beautiful with many very old trees which provide pretty views and nice shade while swimming in the large and very clean pool, which abutts the scenic marina. We stayed in the manor, which was very quiet and relaxing. We liked the fact that there was always friendly staff available in the office if you had any questions or concerns. The room we stayed in was updated and very clean and quiet. The king size bed was extremely comfortable and we slept wonderfully. The water pressure was very good (other reviewers complained about low pressure). The location can't be beat, and the priced was reasonable compared to other inns and hotels. Before I booked our stay, I checked bedbugregistry.com to see if there were any reports/complaints about bed bugs, and there were NONE! There were quite a few nice places in Greenport that did have reports. I will definitely stay here again!
None of these are deal-breakers, but it would be nice if these items were addressed: 1. A safe in the room would be nice 2. The DVD player wasn't hooked-up to the flat screen tv. No biggie for us, since we work in television and know how to hook-up decks. However, he average person would be very frustrated by this. 3. We could have used another surface in the room to place our smaller items on. Here was one small catty-corner shelf (probably held a cable box at some point), and it wasn't level, so items kept falling down and rolling off the shelf. A couple of 24" wall-mounted shelves would have been great. 4. An ice machine on the 2nd floor would be nice. The nice woman who worked at the desk in the evening told me that the bar tender would provide ice. He was very nice and provided a plastic liner in the bucket and filled it up to the top with ice. It was just a drag not knowing this in advance, as I had to get dressed again to go down to the bar. 5. The ice bucket in the room must have been covered by a previous guest while wet, as there was black mold on the bottom. After my initial "yuck!" ReAction, I cleaned it myself with shampoo and hot water. 6. The coffee machine in the room had a used coffee bag in he basket from a previous guest, and the carafe hadn't been washed. 7. In reference to items 5&6: Housekeeping should be reminded to be extra diligent about checking/cleaning the ice bucket and coffee machines. 8. I wish here was a buffet breakfast during the week.
Front desk was extremely helpful and compassionate when we had to leave a day early due to a friend's death. They spoke with booking.com and we were not charged for 2nd night. They cared about helping us. Nice and relaxing reading by the water ... So close to town
Our room for four was spacious and had a great deck. Pool is nice.
Pool and location
Room was small and outdated. Implied from website etc that there was breakfast available everyday but was only available on weekend. Implied from website that internet was available in the room which it wasn't. When we asked the rude response was "Well I guess the router doesn't reach that far." Not a satisfactory response to say the least.
I have traveled extensively in North America and Europe. The check in clerk at the Townsend Manor was the most unwelcoming staff person I have ever experienced anywhere. Not one word of welcome, not a smile, just a "fill out the card" and you owe this much. Shortly after we unpacked and settled into our room the plumbing in the shower fell apart. By this time a friendlier clerk was at the desk, thank God. We switched to a room where the plumbing worked, but it was inconvenient to have to move all of our belongings. The new room had cigarette burns on the blanket and bad water stains on the ceiling. We asked for a 7 A.M. wake up call the day we left, but we never received the call. The building we stayed in was in very bad need of a new exterior paint job. This place was very disappointing and a very bad value for the money. I've stayed at 2 other hotels in Greenport, both of which were far superior to this dump.
Location was excellent and our children loved the pool
The staff were completely disinterested in us as paying guests, when we checked in I might as well have been the beer delivery guy. We stayed in the Gingerbread cottages and our "suite" needed a serious overhaul. Basics such as the lock to the rooms and bathroom are not maintained (bathroom one broken, main door very unstable).Dark wood paneling and sheet rock ceilings with water stains were depressing & it cost $457 for two nights..
The young lady who moved us late at night to a nice room
Worst placed we have ever stayed at -the building they put us in should be condemned
Poor cleanliness Badly decorated Stained ceilings Noisy rooms Disinterested staff Internet didn't work Poor outdoor facilities
Noise from above, pretty tired. Bad wifi only in office area, for the money most uninspired. Worst in 3 months certainly for value.
