Union Square Plaza Hotel  

Great localization, comfortable beds, clean rooms.

Noise heard from the street, low temperature in rooms in winter, no electric heater available.

Friendly staff. Clean and economical.

Love the price and location; can't be beat on either.

Sound is terrible; bring ear plugs. The windows are old, you hear everything that happens on the street, even from the seventh floor.

The location of this Hotel is excellent. You're only 3 blocks from the nearest Muni station (the tram network) which covers the suburbs eat and south east of downtown, and the "Bart" (which is the suburban train network) is also at the same stop as the Muni. The venue is surrounded by a variety of places to eat most of which are open 24 hours a day.

There's another Hotel about 40 meters away (The Frank Hotel) which has for over a year had an ongoing dispute with a large number of its employees who have for more than a year picketted and protested outside its front door at varying stages. The pickets are very noisy (they use portable hand held speakers to make as much noise as possible) and the sound does reverberate up the street and can be heard for up to 2 blocks away. The protesters also do their "stuff" at a time in the morning when its likely to cause as much damage as possible (this is normally for more than hour anytime from 6am to 8am at least 2-3 days a week).

Great location in the walking distance from the cable car stop and Union square. Parking in very close proximity.

The room wasn't very clean (especialy in the window part) and quite small. And the toilet wasn't working properly

Very good location, my room was spacious and clean. Shower was very good, hot water and good pressure. Some of the attendants were nice, but some were didn’t even say hello. Not a major problem, but I didn’t think it was ok that a lot of times I would get to the hotel and there wasn´t anybody at the reception. When I made the reservation it said that I had to pay for the Wi-Fi, but one of the guys at the reception (the nice one) gave us the password for free. The only really bad thing I have to say has nothing to do with the hotel, but there is this Hotel Frank, about 200m from Union Square Plaza, and every day there were some protesters in front of this hotel yelling from 7am to 5pm. It was really annoying! But as I said, it has nothing to do with Union Square Plaza, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

The staff were unbelievably helpful and friendly. They can point out how to get to the main sights quickly and easily and also have a range of ideas for shopping, eating and entertainment.

The day time front desk man was funny, helpful and nice. It was close to union square.

The night shift front desk man was non-responsive to direct questions, he was just down right rude and kept locking the main door, but hiding out of sight making it difficult to get it to be re-opened! I felt as if we were bothering him. It would have been nice if he told us as we were exiting that he was going to lock them .

Very close to Union Square and Market St, and lots of cafe's just around every corner. A Starbucks next door, friendly staff.

Terrific location. Basic, clean hotel. Affordable.

Lacking in amenities. No clock, no ice, no "do not disturb" sign to hang on door, tv remote didn't work after front desk reprogrammed it.

the staff so rude

Had the best price around in my opinion! Besides that, it is conveniently located by Chinatown, Union Square, and many of delicious restaurants! Also, for those who have or are renting a car, there is a place right down the street that allows in & out parking for $20 each day, which is pretty low compared to other places that charge $40+. Easy to hail a taxi in front of the hotel too since there's a lot of them driving by.
