Urban Holiday Lofts is in a great location in Wicker Park with Bucktown just a few blocks away and tons of good food and drinks and neat stores within walking distance. It's maybe 5 minutes away from the Blue Line that made getting to tourist stuff (museums, Michigan Ave, etc) really quick and easy. Their Wifi was also surprisingly fast and all the staff was super nice. I'm planning on coming back on my next trip to Chicago!
The only issues I had were more annoyances than anything. The blankets were too small/short for me (evidently they don't want you to bring your own either) and it was very loud- you can hear everything- other people in their rooms, hall ways, outside the building (bring ear plugs).
The location was great, lots of shopping and unique restaurants/bars within a short walk, really close to the Metro (Damen station) and the neighborhood is really nice. Staff was friendly and helpful! We had a private room with an en suite bathroom and the walk-in shower was big enough for two, a great feature!
The bed was comfy enough, but I'd definitely suggest asking for extra pillows!! The ones they provide are pretty flimsy.
They are awesome people and the place is incredably close to the train station wich is also super easy to get anywhere with. The breakfast is very good and the facility is very well maitained. The bathrooms are cleaned all day long and the showers are great. I have no complains to make at all and everything I neede the satff helped me with. They are just te best.
I did not like the wifi too much. It works some certain times when the hostel is empty but if a couple people are conected it doesn't work to anything but messages and sometimes not even.
Clean and tidy. Energetic and proactive staff. Jason, you are doing great.
I can't book any more nights, all single rooms booked out ahead of time.
The Hostel is simply amazing. It is still pretty new and the room I stayed in was huge. It had its own bathroom as well as a kitchen. Upstairs, there is a big common area with another kitchen, seats, couches a tv and some Computers to use. They even provide free breakfast! The staff is super nice and friendly. They even carried my bag upstairs :). The area around the hostel is full of Little Shops, boutiques, eateries and bars and it is nice to just walk down the streets and look into the Windows. Also, the Metro is a 2 min walk only and it brings you downtown a well as to O'hare Airport. The Price is cheaper then other hostels and great if travelling on small Budget. You get more then you could expect for that price. Probably the best Hostel I ever stayed at (and there are alot)!
The receptionist/manager was one of the nicest guys I've met for sure. Very welcoming and helpful with lots of tips and knowledge of the area.
WiFi didn't work so good but that was a temporary
Good location and friendly staff
The walls are as thin as a paper and the floor cracks with every step. I could barely sleep because of the noise and it was very unpleasant considering I had to wake up early for my flight
The rooms have their own bathroom, kitchen and couch. They are very large and there is definitely enough space for 8 people and their belongings. The staff was very helpful and everything was clean. Free breakfast (cornflakes or bagels) is included. 5 minutes to the nearest cta train station (blue line, Damen).
The free wifi has very poor signal strength. Many stairs which is inconvenient with a suitcase.
. Value for money .near metro .clean .friendly staff I loved it and will surely come back
. Restaurants are not near by. .breakfast was weak. Please add bread slice also in breakfast and also fresh juice
- Pool, TV and Golden tee in common areas - Good brochure with food, travel and sightseeing reco's - Friendly staff
- No hooks to hang clothes or towels in private rooms or bathroom / shower room - hard for one employee to man front desk and keep breakfast stocked - Common areas close at 11/12
I consider this place like a youth hostel. Facility is complete. Not too fancy but you can find anything important when you are travelling. Fav part is this welcome pamphlet with complete information for tourist. Closest train station was under renovation when I was there. If the renovation is finished, best location for this price. I can't wait to go back!
I wouldn't recommend travelling with family since the walls are quite thin and you'll end up with bunch of complaints.
Convenient/Safe Location; Convenient Public Transit Options; Olivia's Upscale Market next door; David's Tea very close; nice stores - liked Lululemon athletic store. The Urban Holiday Lofts has a marvelous staff: considerate, helpful; willing to answer transit and tourist questions...; Beds really comfy; clean; dealt swiftly/effectively with an issue I had with another guest who was talking very loudly on the phone at 4am in the morning; there is a community atmosphere despite language barriers; some of the staff speak several languages; they offer a nice continental breakfast and they have a fabulous cooking kitchen. I stayed 3 weeks in dorms and have returned with my husband and alone several times and stayed in private/shared bath. I come to Chicago quite often of events so when I need to stay over: this is my spot:)
One of the Bedrooms I stayed in had no hooks of any kind and no shelving where you could put personal items. This was a private room with shared bath - not a dorm which I primarily stayed in. Bathroom's were NOT consistently laid out as some had robe/clothing hooks which is nice; some had several towel bars while others had only the robe/clothing hooks. No consistent placement of extra toilet tissue: some were left under the sink which can be inconvenient. A few fixes would really add to the quality of stay. I am a big recycler so I had to make a special effort as the big recycling bin was being used as a garbage can. The liner covered the recycling lettering and it was in the WRONG location. Even if they had seen: Recycling, they would have used it for trash as the Real Trash can was much smaller and under the counter. As people walk from their table or food prep, it is human nature to dump stuff in the Most Convenient Can:( NOTHING MAJORLY WRONG!
Excellent location and the staff were helpful. Clean everything!
the packed refridgerator. Open the one on the other floor when there are large number of guests.
The staff is very nice and very professional.
In the middle of the night seen the heat system wasn't turn on therefore inside the room was very chilly.
Nice staff members who offers a lot of help, clean and friendly environment.
Staff great fun Cool place
Building work outside but no fault of the hotel
the location, the staff service, the living room...a very beatiful place to stay if you are in chicago and you also want a good price!
the steep and endless stairs and the draft of air passing through the windows during the night
The Stadt was really friendly and helpful, the Location was close to the Subway, rooms were really clean and nice so was the bathroom! :) the kitchen was clean! We really enjoyed our stay
Really enjoyed my stay at Urban Holliday Lofts. Cool stores and nice bars nearby and just two blocks away from the 'L' train. Safe neighbourhood not far from downtown. Didn't mind the shared bathrooms, they where clean and not overcrowded at all. Rooms smelled nice and everyone was super friendly, plus they include breakfast. Great if you travel alone.
Mind that you have to use the stairs to get to the second or third floor, but it was not a big deal because the front desk guys eagerly helped me with my belongings.
Excellent service Clean rooms and bathroom Good Wifi Good location
Very noisy at night Night life from the back of the hostel very loud
The staff treated us well and were rather hospitable. The location was also exactly where we wanted to stay for a decent price. Loved the community room and free breakfast.
Early morning noise, beds were uncomfortable, tenants were inconsiderate, maybe add fruits to breakfast
easy-going staff, very orientated to guests, spacious shared space where guests can stay until their flight after check out. one well equipped kitchen where it is possible to cool real meal. Area is stuffed with bars with live music of different kinds (all information is given from the staff). Metro station and bike rent are in 5-10 minutes by foot.
The staffs did everything they could to help every time, everything was very clean, the room was cute, it is a very good place to stay, I would back anytime. Very good for a hostel.
The heater of our room wasn't working very well.
I've been in Urban Holiday Lofts for 3 nights. I'd like to highlight the costumer service. The hostel is near 3 blocks from subway station.
We had a great time in Chicago and found this area to be a travelers delight. Close to the train line, heaps of funky bars and shops and we felt safe. Urban Holiday Loft staff were always helpful and gave us all the information we needed about the area and more.
I would have preferred Breakfast to start a bit earlier than 8am. Beds were comfortable but squeaky/noisy.
