good location. good gym.
room is very very small. street outside is too noisy. can't have a good sleep.
Rooms too hot! Showers weren't very clean and shower curtains didn't even cover all shower
The rooms are very clean, comfy bed, great to see cleaners come around each day and fix up the rooms.
Showers we are little out of date and didn't have much space or shelves to put your things on while showering, 2 dorm rooms are squishy but 4 dorm rooms are very spacious. No lockers in the room which was a negative
The staff is friendly enough and the location is very good. Also if you want to work out, their gym is no joke.
The room doesn't exactly look inviting, the windows don't really do much about the noise from the street, the heating cracks and does all kinds of noises when it goes on and even then you really feel the temperature in the room oscillating a lot.
Location: 10 minutes to Rockefeller Center or subway
Only bunk beds, hair dryer only in changing rooms of gym
The cleaning staff were excellent. Bathrooms were always spotless and I was there for 2 weeks.
The heating pipes made a lot of noise often in the middle of the night.
Its location is great. Many tourist attractions are within walking distance. Also, for casual food, there is "Bread & Butter" almost in front of this YMCA, where you can get various breakfast and lunch foods. Other cafe shops are there after turning at the corner or within several-minutes-walk. A pharmacy and a Japanese supermarket are at two blocks away. As this is a YMCA not a luxurious hotel, you cannot expect good service nor hotel amenities, but rooms are cleaned every day and there are a small refrigerator and a TV in the room. My room (standard single room with shared bathroom) was very small but I was able to open/close my suitcase under the bed as the bed legs were long and space was there. Fortunately, shared bathrooms were just next to my room, so it was comfortable (though sometimes it was a bit noisy when others closed the door of bathrooms). I did not use, but the facilities for sports (fitness center and indoor pool) seemed to be good. I thought the cost-performance was good for those who just need a place to sleep during the stay in NYC! I would choose this place again when I stay in NYC.
Being 6'4", you finally have beds my feet don't dangle over the edge as before. Relatively, [for a Youth Hostel environment], quiet, but it helps to wear ear plugs. Having a refrigerator.
Lighting is terrible. You need a wall or table lamp for each room. My key was inactivated @ 05:30 while in the men's room, on the day I was checking out. Mixed signals with respect to checkout time. When checking in it was 15:00, the morning I was leaving, I was told it was 10:30. It would be nice if there was a lounge with comfortable chairs for guests. Also, the TV set is horrible, & channel selection is poor. No news to be found. Reception is poor. At least I found the weather channel. The blinds did not work. The lock had been ripped off the door & not replaced. [room 925]
Convenient location with very friendly and helful staff. The information desk was great with maps and pamphlets and the staff very informative. The gym and pool are great extras if time permits.
The top bunks were very noisy due to plastic lining. Rooms were small with little room for large luggage. Womens showers were not very private!!
friendly staffs, facility & location
they should have done the shower with some privacy
The location. It's absolutely fantastic. Near the Times Square, Grand Central Station, Top of the Rock, Empire, Bryant Park, 5th Avenue, Broadway and Central Park. The swimming pool and the gym training equipment.
The loud and disturbing noise which comes from the heating system every 30 min also middle in the night which wakes you up. When I've complaint I was told it's an old building with an old heating system. I've called this incredibly loud noise "the Vanderbilt's ghost".
I like the location of the hotel because it is a walking distance to Times Squre about 15minutes.
The room assigned to me at Rm. 608. There was an annoying sounds that keep on repeating every 30 minutes or less. The sound was like, a pipe being hammered repeatedly. It disturbed my sleep.
There were enough bathrooms for people to use, and I didn't have to wait to use one. Wifi connectivity was pretty good. Shuttle service to airport was very helpful. Location is excellent - right near midtown.
There was no way to control the room heater, so I had to resort to opening the window to get the right temperature. The mattress was a little on the hard side, but otherwise ok. Washing machines and dryers required a lot of quarters! The room was a little expensive at over $100 a night, and I'd have thought you'd expect to pay a bit less given the type of accommodation on offer.
Good Gym, and good location, if your'e after the big Avenues
Clean, but somewhat rundown, small, very basic rooms. no complaints, no compliments either.
Everything. It was very clean and comfortable. It was just a bit expensive. But I guess it is new york.
Sometimes you had to wait a long time for the elevator
Heating wasn't turned on. Elevator broke down--a common and re- occurring problem.Took 40 minutes to check out.Booked shuttle to EWR.Was told driver would accept a card.He wouldn'T.GREAT Hassle
I liked location and price
You couldn't turn off the heat so it was so hot inside, as the rooms looked dirty.
Location. Staff. Free WiFi
Location, sauna, gym, nice staff
A bit expensive according to service & offers; no breakfast
close to all the places i had to visit. reasonably priced
Too far to the common bathroom
Only a short walk to Times Square and located in a safe area of NYC on the east side pf Manhattan. Terrific gym facilites spanning three levels. Positive vibe around the place.
Only one elevator going at any one time during our stay. Wifi dropped out a few times, TV reception was patchy.
location is great. it is pretty clean.
the room was tiny and the furniture was really old and worn out. the shower was clean but there was no place to put your cloths , towels etc.
Proximity to main attractions in Manhatten
Ok . A tad expensive for what you get , but , I guess that's NY .
