The room was big, and the hotel was in a great location.
The furniture was a little old and it was hard to use the remote due to the distance and/or placement of the receiver.
Excellent location Friendly staff
nothing we can think of
The hotel was in an ideal location. The majority of staff were really helpful and friendly, especially Curtis and the other door men.
Bedroom was looking tired and in need of decorating and refit.
Hookah-like piped in smell even in room Dark, dingy Room didn't match internet photos Definitely not 4-Star
Location and size of the Hotel( boutique). The room was pleasant (size and furniture)
Floor in room is very slippery. Wifi is not working all the time.
Recommended by the Rececptionist, and did not disappoint. About 9 or 10 blocks from Hotel. Staff were very helpful at all times.
The location is excellent for shopping. Our room was spacious and clean. The staff were very accommodating and the free coffee is a bonus. Had a fantastic stay in the Avalon.
Bit noisy with building work on the street behind the hotel and air con was hit and miss.
Staff was great, room cleaned every day, great location, fantastic place to stay after trekking around NYC every day for 7 days ! Have no hesitation in booking The Avalon.
Construction going on next door but staff at the Avalon dealt with all noise issues very well indeed.
This hotel is excellent in every way. The staff was always helpful and courteous, the room prefect for three adults. The location was quiet and within walking distance to almost everything. The only problem was lack of quality restaurants in the immediate area. I would definitely recommend the Avalon to friends and family.
very comfortable beds
Their interpretation of a Continental Breakfast...
Ideal location Great breakfast Helpful friendly staff and lively pubs and shopping nearby. We had a great time.
Having to return home!
Great location, staff helpful, good size room
construction work outside (not the hotel but right beside it) starting at 7am Monday to Friday,
Just a short walk to Bread and Butter for breakfast! Empire State Building just round the corner...(we loved going up late evening)... as were city bus tours, 5th Avenue etc
Big spacious room and large bathroom
Wonderful bed with clean and luxurious feel. Warm room with twin sinks and effective shower. Tea and coffee available but only in the lobby- a little inconvenient.
Although we were a block away from the Empire State Building, the view from our room was dire. Dark and gloomy at each time of day when we were there. Attention to detail eg cheap curtains and toilet seat gave the impression that although the hotel had some luxury, that was in the past and updates had been of a different standard.
Very good hotel. Above NY 4* Hotel. Very well located and Clean.
No noise from street. Room of a good size. Bathroom clean and good size.
Coffee facilities in foyer but none in room
We loved the location. It was so centrally located...very easy to access subways and/or walk to Time Square area or head downtown. We would definitely recommend this hotel and would return.
The plumbing and heating system is a bit dated. It sounded like there was someone breathing in the walls in the bathroom with the 'hissing' heat. Also, you could hear the pipes banging when someone flushed the toilet outside of your own room. Bit of a sleep deterrent!
The entrance and foyer has the feel of luxury and indulgence, the reception staff are very smartly presented and helpful. The suite was big and comfortable and tastefully furnished and in addition it was calming and surprisingly quiet in comparison with the mania of the City outside. The cleaning team did a very thorough job every day. The location is perfect for touring the island.
The rooms are dark, there is no ceiling light in the bedroom and one of the bedside lamps didn't work. Some of the fixtures and area's of trim are showing signs of wear. The fridge didn't keep things cold. The controls for the tv took some time to figure out how to operate. There was no written welcome pack. There was no tea making facility in the room so there were bleary eyed residents in pyjama's meeting around the coffee machine in the foyer. There is no hotel bar.
very clean good location complementary coffee and tea
Breakfast selection was good for 15 Dollar. Good location.
All day long was a continuous machine noise from the next building. We got another room (change from the 7 to 12th floor) after complaining, but the noise was the same all night long. Problem are probably the old windows, which do not protect from noise at all. Not accetable for a hotel in this class.
Clean and quiet and staff was friendly and helpful. Wilson the doorman is a gem! The location is perfect if you don't mind walking a bit (if you do then you probably shouldn't go to New York anyway). The rooms were not huge but certainly cozy enough. It was nice that the windows opened a bit for some fresh air and real NYC sounds and by that I mean sirens :-) . Plenty of places to eat around the hotel but I recommend "Bread and Butter" on the corner of 31st and 5th. Would definitely go back
No dresser (in our first room anyway) and the little fridge wasn't very cold. Apparently there also wasn't any actual alcoholic beverages in the mini bar? I didn't look myself but that's what I was told. Not deal breakers by any means. I would still recommend the Avalon.
Hotel is a little tired and in need of some TLC. Also no bar,
Comfortable beds, good location.
