I like the cozy and hominess of Volcano Hale. Even though we didn't have our own bathroom, it didn't matter. Each floor had it's own bathroom. The bathroom was nice a big, and well stocked with toiletries and clean towels. On our floor was a huge dining room with a great kitchen to use. We opened our bedroom windows and the night air was wonderful!
I didn't like it went we had to leave. I could easily have stayed a week.
Great spot Excellent cost Cosy room Cheap breakfast at the 'mother' hotel
Shared bathrooms aren't for some people...usually me! This one was fine, we stayed in the top room and it wasn't busy so basically had it to ourselves!
The facilities were very neat and comfortable. The common kitchen was well appointed and made food preparation easy so we didn't have to go to restaurants for every meal.
Biggest complaint was that our rooms were located right off the common area and kitchen, and late arriving guests were noisy and woke us up. Also, there were shared bathrooms, which in itself was not much of a problem, but at night when we got up to use the bathroom the lights in the common area were fixed in the on position and flooded our room with bright light when we open bed our door. A dimmer night light setting would resolve this problem.
Close to the volcanoes national park, restaurants, gas station Confortable bed. Bathroom shared with only one other bedroom.
A quiet pleasant clean end to a day exploring Volcanoes! A good value.
We could switch rooms to a top level floor room which was nice and bright. Shared bathrooms were in good condition. Breakfast was a bit underwhelming after reading some comments here (choice was limited) but it's a very fair price ($6 + tax per person and night) and satified our needs.
The first room we had on the ground floor was tiny and dark. The room on the top level got chilly (though we did not use the heater supplied). There's dehumidifiers everywhere but that may be expected in a humid environment.
The room was very nice and the bathroom was always available when I needed it even though it was a shared facility. Very clean and close to the volcano
I was on the bottom floor and there was a guest staying right above me who paced the floor every evening and started again at 5.25am? Creaky floorboards kept me awake.
Quiet inexpensive full kitchen usage Close to park Travellers place not fancy
Small space Lots of stairs to climb to room
Room little bit small if you travel with two large suitcases.
Enjoyed our stay and meeting the other renters from various places in the world.
The skylite over the bed with no way to keep the early morning light out.
Very clean and modern.
The stairs to the upper level and the pipes of the toilet of the upper level were in my room, so it was very noisy.
I really liked having the kitchen! Allowed me to take care of breakfast and put together hiking-day lunch without hassles. Also, the place was quite warm, even without the woodstove burning, and the location (in close to Volcano village) was excellent. I'd stay here again without question.
The shared bathrooms were a concern coming in, but for the most part it wasn't a problem - and the bathrooms were generously equipped with towels and shampoo and soap
Kitchen available large enough also for real dinner not just breakfast. Nice house and not a problem at all with the shared bathrooms. Good wifi.
A grocery shop nearby would have been nice or someone telling you about the nice kitchen possibilities before you left area with supermarkets.
Room are very clean. Bathroom facilities, while share, are well maintained and modern. Very quiet during the night. Convenient to Volcanos National Park.
Very dark between parking and beginning of path to hotel. Information about the hotel does not indicate check-in is not in same area as rooms. (i.e. room are about a mile from where check-in occurs. No mention of limited check-in hours when booking was made.
Clean and cute room, Comfortable bed, Nice helpful staff.
Clean bedroom. Provided ample towels, shampoos and gels. Cosy fireplace and shared kitchen area
Shower looked a bit dark and in need of spruce
The rustic 'old house'
Having to share a bathroom
I liked the communal kitchen and eating space. It provided extra space e. g. to use the computer. The room was charming and small as is typical for small Hawaii guesthouses. Everything was in very good shape and a good access point to the Vulcano Parc.
Beautiful grounds, comfortable and cozy. quiet and peaceful
Too warm in room for sleeping, even with window open, a fan would have been helpful. Felt coffee should have been complementary not charged for Not having more time to enjoy it
So many things to like. The friendly family style staff. I just loved the beautiful new showers! The continental breakfast, the well equipped kitchen and the wifi was great. It was close to Volcanoes National Park. They thought of everything!
What's to not like? I will go back there and highly recommend Volcano Hale.
