The traffic --- too loud we couldn't sleep! Also we didnt have a bath tub!
The room is much smaller than the picture. The view of the room is just roof. Take me too long to check in.
The location is really nice. It's near to many museums and the central park. The restaurant next to the hotel is really good. It provide coffe and tea for you
I loved not hearing a single honking horn and getting a fabulous night's sleep.
Heating system is loud in rooms...sounded like someone was banging on the pipes all night
Hotel worn around the edges. Seriously noisy radiator in our room. Complained. Just as bad second night. Cold bathroom. Poorly insulated windows vs sound and cold. Free morning coffee very weak.
Nice location vis a vis park.
Heat almost unavailable and it was a cold day. Maddening sound track on mezzanine floor while waiting for room. Room not available until 2:30.
Comfortable bed, low key place, good location. Good restaurant. Breakfast chits because rqstd room not available.
The dresser was broken
The staff was amazing
radiator made quite a bit of noise for a few hours.
Small, no headaches.
Unfortunately, on our last trip our room was too small. The price was certainly right but there was little room for two people to relax. The hotel is extremely well run with eager staff members so we could overlook the room.
Room service and the hotel restaurant, Sarabeths, was not on par. While ALL the service staff were lovely whenever calling for room service, the order was always missing something. We ordered on a Friday and our tray was still in the hall on Sunday. Room service asked me how many set-ups and I responded two.... it came with one so we had to share fork and knife taking turns eating. Another time we ordered ice water to which she replied, "Of course! I'll make sure you get two glasses." None came. When we ate in the restaurant, I ordered hangar steak medium rare and it came well done. Everyone was very nice, but still, lots of misses with the restaurant. Sarabeth's has overstayed it's good reputation welcome.
The Check-In and Concierge staff were so nice and accomodating. The rooms were old-school charming (the hotel was built in 1902) and the updated common room on the mezzanine was lovely. Free coffee, newspaper, and tea all day was a nice touch on a winter's day.
Hotel is very "tired" Our initial room was a disgrace costing $320 plus of course the $50.70 taxes and extras i.e. $370.70 per night (£238). The shower selector did not work The bathroom socket had no power The room had a small double bed with a poor mattress. The room was so small that our suitcases took up all the free floor space of the room. Bedside cabinet on one side only of double bed so nowhere to place overnight items like a glass of water or wristwatch. The safe was unuseable - the batteries were corroded into the housing. The central heating system was extremely noisy and kept us awake for much of the night - not good when having to do business next day.
Reception were very helpful and polite Free coffee 24/7 was good! (but it did run out and a prompt was needed to refill) Excellent location for Mount Sinai Hospital also good acess to main attractions in Manhatten via the Subway (express) After one uncomforable night in the original room we were moved to a "Queen" room which was much better having a larger bed and a more comfortable mattress and facilities that worked!.. It was at least large enough to "lose" our suitcases! This it has to be said was done with no fuss by the reception staff after approval by the Manager. Having said that, the value for money was very poor particularly when comparing 5* hotels (Fairmont) in Vancouver which provided excellent comfort with faultless service with a daily rate much less the the "Wales Hotel"
no room service after 9pm...
Good staff, very comfortable drawing room with free coffee, location, excellent breakfast restaurant on ground floor, 24-7 shop next door.
Cozy. Bathroom very nice, clean, updated.
NO THERMOSTAT IN THE ROOM. mUCH TOO HOT. WIFI KEPT CUTTING OUT THE BED AS MENTIONED PREVIOUSLY
PROXIMITY AND MARY BETH RESTAURANT
Street noise in morning
Boutique personal feel rooftop terrace - great view nice to be by museums on Upper East Side
The carpet was filthy! I don't think it had ever been cleaned. The window blinds were broken. Then I discovered a two inch injured roach limping along. I was more concerned about what had attacked the roach. When I pointed this out to management, they argued that that is what happens when I am on the top floor and, after all, I did want a room with a bathtub. I had no idea that i had to choose between a bathtub or a filthy room with vermin. I have photos as proof to this disaster of a room. I will never stay there again.
-very loud window AC, hard to regulate temperature in room -didn't know about roof top bar! -not enough towels- asked for more, got them, but next morning extra set was gone (and we hung them up!) -bathroom was large (great) but could have used an extra counter or chair to put stuff on (no where to put toiletries etc.)
-good location for our purposes -large bathroom
Roomm, coffee, attractive facility
Old mattress, window a/c, small room, broken phone, bent closet door,
Location, staff, neighborhood, shower
location ,staff ...all great ...and our dogs were happy too!
Very pricey at the time I stayed. I never realised about the rooftop bar!! Nobody told me!!
This area of Madison Avenue is very "in". You get the feeling you are among the hip New York set. I wouldnt class it as a touristy area but great for people watching. The Hotel is pretty old with beautiful original wood finishes in the room but with a very attractive coffee lounge contrasting the modern on the mezzanine level. Friendly staff.
The mattress seems to be past it's prime and very saggy on the side.
The room was spacious and clean.
I'm in the middle of trying to determine why I was charged an extra $53 on my bill- what I signed for at check out did not reflect the same amount on my bank statement- so far no one has returned my call to resolve this.If it's not resolved, then we certainly will not return to the hotel.
prior to seeing my bank statement with a charge that was added after I signed my bill, we did love the location, our room, the rooftop deck, and thought, value for the money-
Wifi not working in the room. Because there is no restaurant, would be great to offer fruit and danish with the coffee in the morning for those who don't want big breakfasts. And honestly, Sara Beth's doesn't cut it anymore - poor service, food not great, and expensive.
Staff were wonderful. Room was huge (room 415) with separate living area. Beautifully renovated bathroom. Room was on Madison Avenue with lovely view, and was quiet, limited street noise. Penthouse rooftop deck is amazing - huge area with lovely flower pots, tables and chairs, sun umbrellas, fantastic views to Central Park and Jacqui Kennedy reservoir. Great upper east location with lots of interesting eating places next door and nearby. Would definitely recommend and would love to return.
